If there is anything else you would like to see, then please drop a comment and let us know. We want this to be a great tool for the Dell community. Regarding the CPUs, the Dell PowerEdge R630 has dual Intel Xeon processors. They are an LGA2011-3 socket. This means the R630 utilizes Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 series. Please note, in order to use the v4 procs, make sure you have an update to date BIOS. In general, we recommend keeping your system up to date for everything and will show exactly how to do this in our Mass Updates video. Below are some of the CPUs we recommend. This is not a complete list and there are a ton of great options within the E5-2600v3 and v4 series.
Low End CPUs
E5-2620v3 - 6 Core 2.4GHz
E5-2630v3 - 8 Core 2.4GHz
Value CPUs
E5-2660v3 - 10 Core 2.6GHz
E5-2670v3 - 12 Core 2.3GHz
E5-2680v3 - 12 Core 2.5GHz
High End CPUs
E5-2690v4 - 14 Core 2.6GHz
E5-2695v4 - 18 Core 2.1GHz
E5-2697v4 - 18 Core 2.3GHz
E5-2698v4 - 20 Core 2.2GHz
E5-2699v4 - 22 Core 2.2GHz
In this video, we will also show you how to properly remove your old processors. Be careful not to accidentally hit the CPU pins when taking out your old CPU. Also be careful with the old thermal paste. The paste can sometimes flake off and end up inside your CPU pins. You want to avoid this situation. We show you how to handle. We will also install a CPU upgrade and go over step by step instructions.
Do you want to buy a refurbished Dell PowerEdge R630 server? You can custom configure your own server. We have both 8 Bay and 10 Bay options in stock.

It would be nice if you could add to your series, the addition of a GPU in a PCI port.

You can get thermal paste off the motherboard and CPU pins. Use IPA and a soft brush. Worst case use an ultrasonic cleaner. It's not the end of the world :)

I don't know if drinking a beer and using a tooth brush is the right solution or the best solution I've ever heard. 😁

Hi Scott , thanks for your effort your videos is my reference in the dell world , I’ve a question how you compare 2673v4 to the high end 269x procs , is there is any missed feature or capability? I personally have it acts good but i expect more like it sometimes drops to 1.2 without power or thermal throttling

Is the server doing something? It might be in power saving mode and slows down the speed when not doing anything.
