Pretty sure they are not intake fans, they are exhaust, DC grade equipment usually blows front to back, as they often partition rows for "hot/cold?" for racks.

Just ordered a T640 with 18x 3.5" bays, so you are incorrect in saying they only use 2.5" now. The 3.5" caddy's even have a 2.5" adapter in them so you can use either 3.5" drives or 2.5" drives.

how many hard drives did you use, and how's the noise in your opinion?

you going to void the warranty by removing the baffle? That entry wire plug is cake.. Is this your first time working with PowerEdge?

I’m really surprised that there wasn’t a front fan intake caddy (w/fans of course). What was the reason for not getting one? Also, I’m curious why you didn’t remove the CPU/Memory shroud (the clip to remove it is in the rear, by the exhaust fans). Doesn’t this just rest on top of the internals, similar to the T630? It’s a really nice server btw...I can’t wait to get my hands on one! But for now, I’m still pretty happy with my T630 workhorse. Thanks for the video!

I had a tampering system on and didn't want to remove the cover for that reason.

I'm not against OEM, but for 10k, a white box server probably would have gotten you much more.

I am using T640 both for personal as well as for my Lab purposes. 3 clarifications please, 1. I am looking for wireless network card so I can use my server both on cable as well as wireless. 2. Is there any Bluetooth card or adapter so I can use for wireless devices 3. This has VGA and I am looking for Thunderbolt connections on the back. which ones suits this T640 server. Thanks.

You have two options here buy a $30 Dell Interactive Wireless Dongle but limited to distance or add a PCIe wireless card to with faster transfer rate and longer distance. I have a dongle just to connect wireless incase my primary internet drop and I need to drac to it.

What about noise ??? is it heavy or just like workstation noise ??
@Upgradetech2 жыл бұрын
With the small footprint of the fan they are less noisy than other systems, but the are at lead in the 50 dbs

Your recommendations? you are giving recommendations on the fans, yet worried about opening the baffle??

Hey, We are experiencing a strange issue in our university lab. The workstation is able to load into the OS after the power drain. We get the error message RAID controller is not detected. Do you think it might be due to a temperature issue? But iDRAC temperature records don't show any overheating. Do you have any suggestions/Advice? Thanks

Sound like it could be the raid controller PCI fail and would need to reinstall the drivers or replace. First, go into bios to see if you can see the Raid controller and see if the setting has changed. Also, call Dell tech support they are great in helping and also their forums.

Hello How quiet is the machine? I am looking to upgrade my home office machine. Any heads up would be much appreciated.

Its half the noise because only has two small fans do all the work.
