Great video. It helped me so much, cleaning the completely manky fan/heat pipe of my Dell Studio 1558. Now everything is fine again. Almost everything... I got one screw left. ;-)

Thanks for a great job. I have such a machine - pulled from scrap metal. Not everything works, because the predecessor probably "forgot" to plug it in. Now, with a solid guide, I can begin my journey inside. I'm starting the screwdriver day :)

thanks for sharing.. finally found out why my computer shutting down suddenly. There's a lot of stuff got caught inside the cooling vent.. so eventhough the fan run very fast, nothing much comes out from it and it's very hot. now it blows a lot of air as it should :) Glad I open it to the cooling fan unit, otherwise it looks clean

same. those bastards REALLY like selling new computers. I've resorted to sticking heatsinks from old CRT boards on top of mine to keep it kicking. - 11 year old machine full of cigarette juice and dust bungies.

I replaced a broken fan and then put my 10 year old laptop back together again. ONLY to find out that since it was open, there were a ton of other thingsI could have done to service the laptop INCLUDING (NOT NEGOTIABLE) replacing the thermal paste...! So I went back in to do the rest... laptop runs much quieter and cooler! thanks @regazzz

Great video - thanks for taking the time to do it. I have a Studio 1558 - the fan is hitting something unless I pick up the laptop and take the weight off the case bottom - if I do that then the fan is noiseless. i.e. there is a very small fan blade clearance problem that I need to fix. Is the only way to the fan through the top and those gazillion screws, or can I get at it from the bottom? TIA, Phil

nevermind...i seemed to have seen 2 videos of "1558" and commented on the wrong video, though i was curious where the ATI video card is...Now i know...this video is about a 1558 that is the Intel HD....the heatsink next to the CPU heatsink is the Northbridge HM55 chipset...therefore the CPU contains the only video...ON the 04DKN mobo, there is a another chip next to the WWAN.

the funny thing is the ONLY thing u didnt disassemble was the heatsink on the gpu. I could have found out what gpu u have...if it is intel HD, then are there different 1558 mobos with different video interfaces?

brian head oh, I got that, you need to see what is behind this little silver heatsink on the left side? Sorry, this little heatsinks usually stay. I hope you answered your question finally!

you mean will the case support an i7 mobo? u mean will it support an i7 cpu? i7-720qm has NO VIDEO onboard...so doing YOUR homework by looking on ebay...hold on few sec....hi im back from ebay...studio 1555 is a core 2 mobo...socket P...so no it wont support an i-core at all...TOTALLY DIFFERENT generation of CPUs... and sockets

Dude i m not talking about using an i-core cpu on a core 2 duo motherboard!! What i said was if i could use the motherboard of 1558 which by the way has an ati on board graphics and does support i7-720qm.....since 1555 n 1558 has the same chassis....

TANUJ PARIHAR well since i am EXTREMELY knowledgeable about this, there are 2 MOTHERBOARD selections. the ATI version is on Ebay for about $170 and the i7-720qm is about $60...why havent you checked Ebay?..."Where can i find the motherboard and ... CPU?" just incase you dont believe me...I HAVE THE OTHER VERSION...and its painful to know i cant put a quad core...

regazzz right but this isnt a studio 1558...its the core 2 version...the i-core version is the 1558, and there r 2 versions...the 04DKN with Radeon ATI and the 936G which is the Intel HD
