Still not convinced Dell is at top of my " need a new computer soon". I have an extremely older Dell still running when quality meant something ,computer store said they couldn't replace drivers because its a Dell . WT ....why? Dell keeps changing their new laptops as to what the pricing mkt will work best for them but with too product problems for the price .

Ya, I bought the 2022 LG Gram 17. It's a different laptop in size compared to the xps 13, but similar conclusion when compared to Apple's macbooks and I have the m1 MBA. The Gram is insanely light and that's important now covid is mostly over, things have opened up and I go out a lot. I program full stack, azure, and write for a tech blog so the screen real estate is important. But it's really the 1260p that ruined it. The performance is good, but at the trade off of higher heat/higher performance/higher fan noise or lower heat/lower performance/lower fan noise, not the goldilock of low heat/low fan noise/high performance. The WQXGA display would've been decent had my eyes not tasted the retina 227 ppi display of the MBA, and the 178 ppi looks pixelated and not as sharp in comparison. But the good side is that I appreciate how LG listened and fixed a couple of things noted unanimously by other reviewers that I follow (Verge, PCMag, Notebookcheck) from the prior generation, namely low speaker volume and glossy display. If only LG put in an AMD chip in there which has a higher CPU/watt, and put in a 4k display and the Gram 17 would've been amazing. But I do hope you review that thing as the Gram 17 is a class on its own in terms of screen size and weight. Have a good day Josh!

I was a bit unsure about the redesign at first but it has really grown on me. I love how clean and futuristic the computer looks. I've always loved how small the XPS 13 is too. My 14" MacBook pro is fantastic and looks far better than the older 13" model but the XPS 13 plus still looks so much better and is much more portable.
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree about the futuristic design - the XPS has always been a looker, and that’s what draws me in. But while this LOOKS more futuristic, I’d argue that the MBP FEELS more futuristic in daily use - i.e. having a laptop that’s cool to the touch under load, one that doesn’t have screaming fans under heavy load, having incredible battery life relative to the performance it’s capable of and relative to that it’s running a high resolution high refresh screen. While this no doubt improves things from the 9310 model which I’d used and was fairly disappointed with in terms of heat and battery life, I’m worried from Josh’s early impressions that it doesn’t do enough to improve on its past bugbears. I’m glad the 12th gen i7 performance matches Apple Silicon, but in my day to day use, I’m not running benchmarks but rather trying to get as much light to moderate tasks done on a single charge without feeling like I have a space heater on my lap. Not to mention it does it all with a better webcam (hopefully the one on the Plus is better than the notoriously bad one on the 9310) and speakers and a slick 120hz screen. Interesting to see how the $1299 base i5 model stacks up against the M2 MacBook Air.
@Piketom1
@Piketom1 2 жыл бұрын
@@User-cb4jm The MacBook Air is a probably a closer competitor to the XPS 13 than the 14” MacBook Pro. Neither really has the cooling ability for sustained workloads but the powerful hardware will make them both feel very snappy for basic computing tasks. I’d be willing to bet that the average customer for both the Air and XPS 13 doesn’t actually need the performance of the I7 or M2 but wants to spend good money on a small premium notebook that is plenty powerful for anything they will do.

I used an XPS 13 1-2 years ago and said it was the portable option I'd pick if I wanted to spend more money and didn't need to game on the go. Instead I went for a cheap 12.5" Xiaomi for way less money for travel where I don't need to edit video (not very often), but it's obviously nowhere near as good! New XPS looks interesting, but I'll wait for the touchpad DLC 😉 then again MacBook Air would probably be what I go for just for the battery life.

The lack of headphone jack and physical function and escape keys is a real deal breaker, I hope they return them back in future model even at the expense of thicker chassis. Instead an upgrade would be having a bigger battery, brighter high refresh rate OLED or Mini-LED displays, More key travel and ports,1080p webcam with built-in webcam privacy shutter and studio microphones.

Lenovo Yoga 7 14, Asus ZenBook UX3402, and ZenBook UM3402 have all of that. 75Wh batteries, 90Hz OLED, 1080p webcam with physical slider, HDMI/USB-A/3.5mm ports, great build quality and speakers. Vote with your wallet. XPS 13 is extremely overrated IMO and not even worth $1k.

@@JustJoshTech Just unboxed and set up the Dell XPS. The design is absolutely gorgeous, from than viewpoint, it's a master piece. Now for the bad news: it runs hot. Mind you, I have not installed Adobe Creative Cloud, but with just basic web browsing, it does not seem to be much cooler. I have installed all the available updates, will probably check if there are a few more for thermal management, but apart from selecting the 'Cool' preset (which then keeps the fan busy), I am out of options on that end. I actually think the cooling solution is pretty amazing in this XPS13 Plus. There is not other laptop of its size and weight that can pull 40W sustained after a 60W burst, or 20W sustained while being quieter than most other Intel ultrabooks. The problem is Intel. If this laptop had Ryzen 6800U or HS or the M2 chip, it would be much cooler than MBP13 M2 or other Ryzen laptop of the same size. MBP14 is a larger and heavier laptop, but the XPS13 Plus managed to scored better than the MBP14 in Cinebench R23 while in Ultra Performance, despite its smaller size and weight. I am currently using the XPS 9310 and yeah I have experienced all these issues, I had regretted not buying the 15" x360, perhaps the thermal issues might have been reduced due to the larger chasis, but then again I had heard you talking about the trackpad issues. This year I have decided to shift to HP. Envy that comes at almost half the price with a 12th gen cpu, the only trade off is a Full HD OLED screen as compared to a 3.3K one, but then again that would hit the battery massively as 12th gen itself is a power hungry processor. Would you recommend a 12th gen i7 P or H series with 32 GB DDR5 RAM or a 11th Gen i7 H series and an RTX 3050 and 8 GB soldered on DDR4 RAM for light on the go video editing ? Hey! I'm Absolutely not an Apple specialist, but I think you have to be really careful with Apple devices and check if all of what you'll use is compatible with them. Sometimes, some programs you use could not be available on MacOS. MacBooks seem to be really amazing machines that beat the XPS on several points (for example MacBooks are known for their remarkable battery life but also great performance and build quality) but if you are currently on Windows, you should really be careful about the differences between MacOS and Windows. Downsides of MacOS include potential lack of compatibility as I mentioned, but also from what I know worse window management (resizing windows etc.). However, there are also many advantages of using MacOS versus Windows. So be REALLY careful with the OS, check comparison videos, I'm sure Reddit or KZbin will give many precious advices on when you should prefer MacOS or Windows based on what you do (so mostly Computer Science I assume). I was thinking of purchasing a notebook of this model for studies, for university studies, using Microsoft Office, writing texts in Microsoft Word, and using Adobe Photoshop, for this use do you think there is a problem of overheating? And in your opinion, between the XPS13 PLUS and the Samsung Galaxy Book2 360, which one would you advise me to buy?

I’m currently using the XPS 13 Plus for uni studies, I have the i7-1260p model with 16GB RAM and FHD+ display. It does get quite warm with Office apps, Chrome and Spotify running at the same time. I initially had the Galaxy Book2 Pro but I returned it because the dark finish drove me insane with how easily it showed fingerprints and other marks. It really depends on what kind of degree you’re doing, I’m doing ICT engineering and thus far the Dell has been fine, though a bit hot like I mentioned. I am a little concerned about certain quality control issues that some users have been bringing up, namely the keyboard. Hope this helped!

As someone who tried out the XPS 9310 OLED and was dissatisfied with the amount of heat generated and the poor battery life (+ awful webcam). I went with the MBP 14 after that. I was worried I’d regret not giving the XPS another chance (I love the XPS aesthetic) when I heard about the Plus, but as it appears, the areas which I care about most like battery life and surface temps still lag behind the Mac. Plus the smooth 120hz and phenomenal speakers I’ve gotten used to. I’d come from a decade of Windows to the past few years on Mac, and was open to go back to Windows with the 9310 and then settled back on the Apple Silicon Mac. I’m software agnostic and usually that means the performance and spec of a Windows laptop would traditionally win me over, but not so much in the era of Apple Silicon. It really addresses the heat and battery life issues that plagued other laptops for years.

Dell need to use AMD U series or H series in XPS to get equal or better performance for long run with least fan noise, double graphical performance and double battery life. AMD's U series processor is in another league, it can compete with Mac book on efficiency in lower wattage without much performance loss.

As someone who thought I would be buying an XPS 13 this year, I'm severely disappointed in the direction that Dell took. Cutting out core features like physical function/escape keys and a headset jack is unacceptable. Just take the alternative of making the laptop a few millimeters thicker. Wouldn't a more direct competitor to the MacBook Pro 14 be the XPS 15? I feel the XPS 13 line is positioned more to compete with the MacBook Pro 13. Perhaps a better comparison to have made would be between the XPS 13 Plus and the MacBook Pro 13 with M2.
@essamal-mansouri2689
@essamal-mansouri2689 2 жыл бұрын
Even if you compare this to a Macbook Air (13"), the Dell XPS is only around 10% faster (multi-core) and around 30% SLOWER in single-core. If we run it on battery, it is around 30% slower than a Macbook Air in multicore. It also produces more noise, has a worse battery life, costs more, has a worse webcam and speakers. Dell is also only offering 4k or 1080p, so you'd have to upgrade to 4k to get a better screen. With only a screen upgrade, it costs $1600. That's $600 dollars more expensive atleast (Macbooks are often discounted now that the M2 is out). So all that said, comparing the XPS 13 Plus to the 2-year-old Macbook Air, shows that the Dell laptop is slower and has a worse webcam and speakers. Yet it produces more noise, less graphical performance, and has worse battery life. But still, I would give the win to Dell on the monitor and overall design. It just looks so good and the Macbook looks like it was designed 10 years ago.
