I've just received my first non-pod coffee machine which was influenced by your more than any other KZbinr. The Deduce just seems the best balance of functionality vs cost. I bought used, and despite them saying there were problems with it, I simply cleaned it before first use and it seems fine (but it was really gunked up). This video is going to be a great help in setting it up. Thanks!

@@TomsCoffeeCorner yes, I am currently binging your videos! I am coming from a little Saeco Aroma manual machine I’ve had since…2009? 😬 This is an upgrade in a lot of ways, certainly! I was confused by the pressurized filters it comes with though, so over time I’m guessing I may want to pick up the aftermarket portafilter you recommended as well. We’ll see how it goes!

@@jocelynplemel2736 Hey Jocelyn, the pressurized filters were designed for pre-ground coffee beans, or if you have a grinder which cannot grind fine enough for espresso. The unpressurized filters on the other hand require a finer grind, so they will need a decent grinder. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Cheers, Tom

@@TomsCoffeeCorner that makes sense, as I do understand this machine is meant to be beginner friendly. I do have a somewhat decent burr grinder (though the Eureka you’ve shown looks amazing, but probably not justifiable for me at the moment). It’s too bad De’Longhi didn’t provide a simple option to swap out for a non-pressurized filter with the Dedica line.

Hi Tom, great video and detailed explanations, Thank You 😀 I am curious, how do you know which water hardness to choose? I have no idea of the water hardness I have 😕 I use carbon filtered tap water. Also I noticed the steam light is flashing orange after only 6 weeks or so of use ( 1 cup per day ) suggesting a descale is required, which seems too soon! I wonder if this has to do with the water hardness default setting? I have the new EC885M model, by the way. Thank You very much 😀
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Hey SB, I think there are strips which can be used to determine how hard your water is. If you are using filtered water anyway, most of the minerals should have been removed. I would choose "medium" hardness in that case. How are you liking the 885 model?
@SB-fd1kv
@SB-fd1kv 2 жыл бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Ok thanks, that's a good idea Tom, I will look into that and establish the water hardness I have, I will select the medium one for now. Still, it's strange that the machine would be needing a descale so soon! The 885 is ok for a coffee machine, it's the first one i have owned, so can't really compare to anything else, looking at videos you have done and others, an upgrade to a non-pressurised filter or blind filter portafilter would be a good idea.
@TomsCoffeeCorner
@TomsCoffeeCorner 2 жыл бұрын
@@SB-fd1kv Well, the descaling is just a count of extractions, so there is no sensor for scale or anything. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Hi Tom. Hope u could help me. After making espresso and steaming the milk(for Flat White) the single cup and double cup buttons are blinking which means that the boiler is very hot so i need to cool the boiler by pressing the steam button to eject some water and steam but after doing so, the single and double cup buttons are still blinking. What do i need to do to make another cup of espresso? Do i need to turn Off and On the side button to go back to normal position. Thanks in advance for your advice and nice vlogs by the way.😉👍

Hi 👋 Emonez! How Long are you cooling down the boiler? You have to wait until water eventually comes out of the steam want. Then, the pump should turn off automatically, and you will be ready to brew an espresso.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks for the immediate reply. After the water comes out of the steam wand, I immediately turn off the steam valve since its already giving steam but the single & double cup buttons are still blinking thats why I just turn off the machine and wait for about 10 secs before I turn it on again and its ready to make another cup of espresso. Am I doing it wrong?🤔 Thanks again for your advices.😉

@@emonez1860 Hey Emonez, you just have to keep the steam valve turned on until water comes out. That will cool the thermoblock down enough, so that you can brew espresso again. The flashing lights just are telling you that the measured temperature is still too high for espresso brewing. Hope that helps!

Hello Tom, I think I encountered all the possible issues today when it comes to the settings and adjustments. I am using a decent grinder at its finest grind, yet still I cannot exceed 23 seconds of extraction, while using 18 grams of coffee. Since I can manipulate only coarseness in the grinder and water volume my options seem to be limited. When I lower the water volume my extraction time is just around 15 seconds When I tamper harder I loose the channeling When I go back to factory settings I get 1:5 ratio, because the machine spits out 100 grams of water. is there anything that comes to your mind to play around with?

Hey there! You have to keep holding the button, until the desired amount has been reached. To do so, just press and keep holding the button while the espresso is extracting. Ideally use a scale, to know how much liquid you are extracting. Then, when the target amount has been reached, release the button. Cheers!

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately even with the trick you mentioned, nothing happens. Descaling Also doesn't last more than 5 seconds. there was no way to reprogram the amount of time for each process. i found a way thanks to one's comment to force the pump puch the water out to descale the machine. to do so : - turn off the machine - press and hold the one cup coffee button and turn the machine on. - press and hold both one cup button and steam button to force pump the water out. (keep holding the button to pump the water) - every 20 seconds switch the lever between steam mode and coffee mode - do this process for about 2 L of water. after doing this, i was able to reprogram the brewing time.

Hi there. Just bought the latest 885M with the new "standard" steam wand. Being curious, I unscrewed the tip and noticed there was a very fine inner silicone/plastic tube that would reach the end of the steam wand tip. Wonder if this is to increase steam pressure or is it to control hot water. Anyone know? Cheers

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom. Not particularly impressed with the steam wand. I usually don't have any issues creating smooth as silk "paint" when steaming, but the 885M is proving a hard nut to crack, even after 2 litres of milk. Was toying with the idea of removing the last 1-1.5cm of the tube to see if it would lower the pressure a little. Also, what is a good bottomless portafilter with double single-walled basket from either Amazon US or Aliexpress? In NZ so anything shipped from Europe, including the UK, is far too expensive. Thanks :-)
