@@TomsCoffeeCorner yes, I am currently binging your videos! I am coming from a little Saeco Aroma manual machine I’ve had since…2009? 😬 This is an upgrade in a lot of ways, certainly! @@jocelynplemel2736 Hey Jocelyn, the pressurized filters were designed for pre-ground coffee beans, or if you have a grinder which cannot grind fine enough for espresso. @@TomsCoffeeCorner that makes sense, as I do understand this machine is meant to be beginner friendly. hi Tom! my espresso yield is quite bitter with Lavazza Super Crema, Why would that be? any thoughts?
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ahmet! Could be too low of a pressure, too low of a temperature, maybe too much coffee in the filter as well. How many grams are you using, and at what temp? By the way, some beans will just tend to be sour as well. These pair well with cappuccino in my opinion.

ok..and how can i install water filter? I put the filter in the tank. But the water is sucked in through the second hole, which is next to the hole for the filter. How do I set this up?

Hi Michal, this machine was not designed to be used with a filter. Cheers!

Hi Tom, great video and detailed explanations, Thank You 😀 I am curious, how do you know which water hardness to choose? I have no idea of the water hardness I have 😕 I use carbon filtered tap water. Also I noticed the steam light is flashing orange after only 6 weeks or so of use ( 1 cup per day ) suggesting a descale is required, which seems too soon! I wonder if this has to do with the water hardness default setting? I have the new EC885M model, by the way. Thank You very much 😀
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hey SB, I think there are strips which can be used to determine how hard your water is. If you are using filtered water anyway, most of the minerals should have been removed. I would choose "medium" hardness in that case. How are you liking the 885 model?
@SB-fd1kv2 жыл бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Ok thanks, that's a good idea Tom, I will look into that and establish the water hardness I have, I will select the medium one for now. Still, it's strange that the machine would be needing a descale so soon! The 885 is ok for a coffee machine, it's the first one i have owned, so can't really compare to anything else, looking at videos you have done and others, an upgrade to a non-pressurised filter or blind filter portafilter would be a good idea.
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
@@SB-fd1kv Well, the descaling is just a count of extractions, so there is no sensor for scale or anything. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Regular descaling is a good idea for all appliances though, even water kettles and coffee machines. Yes, a bottomless portafilter and non-pressurized basket would be two worthy upgrades. Cheers!

Hey tom, i have had this machine for a while, lately since the last few months, no matter what i do its pulling bitter shots. Kind of over extracted. Tried changing beans, grind size, descaling, everything. With everything remaining the same what could be the cause? Maybe machine has lost pressure? Not sure about that because its pulling decent crema. I use about 12.5 grams of coffee in a non pressurized basket
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hey Taplu, how old is your machine? I found that my pump lost pressure after 5 years, and I overhauled the pump to get the max pressure back. Did anything else change? What kind of water are you using?
@taplubambhos28692 жыл бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner the machine about 2.5 yrs old. I have always been using RO filtered water. Nothing changed, tried going back to older coffee, newer coffee, fresh roasts, degassed. etcetc. The same coffee through my picopresso is yielding great shots

Hi Tom..great videos you got here and super liked your content. I wanted to ask whats ur take on the delonghi grinder kg79 there..is it a good buy for a burr grinder?. Thanks!
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Awesome Lee, thanks for the feedback! Well, the KG79 works for espresso with a hack, but it is not ideal. I would really suggest saving up for the Manuale/Notte from Eureka: amzn.to/3PbXvHt

Hello Tom, I think I encountered all the possible issues today when it comes to the settings and adjustments. I am using a decent grinder at its finest grind, yet still I cannot exceed 23 seconds of extraction, while using 18 grams of coffee. Since I can manipulate only coarseness in the grinder and water volume my options seem to be limited. When I lower the water volume my extraction time is just around 15 seconds When I tamper harder I loose the channeling When I go back to factory settings I get 1:5 ratio, because the machine spits out 100 grams of water. is there anything that comes to your mind to play around with?

my ec685 doesn't extract shots properly, i'd use 14-16g of coffee and the machine extracts like 24ml of really pale liquid in just a few seconds, any idea how to fix this or is my machine just faulty?
