Thank you, this video was so helpful. We replaced the pump on our machine and it solved the problem. We learned that you need a Tamperproof T20 Torx (that has a hole on the end) rather than a regular T20 Torx, and that it needs to be long as the screw is pretty far down. Also, I'm fairly sure the reason the pump failed in the first place is that I didn't realize you needed to take the boiler plate off occasionally to clean it - I took it off and it's a wonder any coffee was getting through there at all.

The T20 Torx bit issue: DeLonghi has placed a tiny bump of metal in the "slot" on the top of the Torx screw. They call this type of screw "security". I call it a ploy to make you buy a new espresso maker! Presumably you could drill out a tiny hole in your Torx driver. I was able to get two of the 3 torx screws out by perseverance, the last one wouldn't give, so I just ripped the top off. Luckily, the torx screw screws into plastic. The plastic just broke. Great video, btw. Very helpful. And I'm caffeinated again!

I had a similar issue. I was able to get a set of security Torx screwdrivers from Amazon pretty quickly.

Or you can just buy the proper tool 🤦 Harbor Freight has security torx for only a few dollars

I will have to buy a new one but not a DeLonghi.

Great video. Helped me figure out how to remove the top cover. Definitely a T-20 for those 3 screws.

Thanks for this video! I didn’t even know about the steamer trick before watching this! I took apart my diffuser, cleaned it, and for days couldn’t figure out what to do. I didn’t have to disassemble and replace anything like you did, but running water through the steamer solved my problem and prevented me from buying a new machine!

Hi! I have the same problem with my delonghi espresso machine. Do you know where can I buy the new pump? And how much does it cost. Thank you!
@collinwebster2913 жыл бұрын
Same thing started happening to me. I've descaled it, watched a dozen videos on proper espresso grounds and tamping -no luck. I think it's a pump issue at this point. I think I saw this part on Amazon for ~$25. Not a bad investment for a $250 espresso machine. Did you end up swapping yours out?

Hi - thanks for the video. Are you sure it’s a T20 torxbit? I’ve tried that and a T15 and cannot get either to fit. Thanks.
@theendoftheline3 жыл бұрын
T-20 Torx for sure. I had a T-25 didnt fit my ec702, one of my T-20 was worn just a bit too small but one of my T-20's worked and when I took it out it looked like it was obviously the right size.

1:26 T20 torx bit did not work for me. Or a T15...or a T25. Saw another vid where dude just used a 1/8" flat head. That didn't work for me either...so aggravating.
@nickschonlau5874 Жыл бұрын
What did you end up using? I used a T20 on 2 of them but I cannot get it to work on the 3rd screw. Driving me crazy!
@MJXtube Жыл бұрын
@@nickschonlau5874 ha, so I had to buy a pack of extended T bits from amazon, like 3 or 4" long bits. That did get the screws out...but it didn't matter because I was unable to fix the leaking valve. Didn't bother trying to replace the entire pump ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
@megrobertson Жыл бұрын
Ugh it’s so frustrating! Did you ever end up getting it out?
@MJXtube Жыл бұрын
@@megrobertson not sure if you are replying to my original comment or the successive reply. The reply holds true. I'd sooner buy a more robust machine than try to replace the entire pump for this unit. Don't get me wrong: I'm all for efficiency, reuse, & DIY. But this is an entry-level unit and not worth that level of repair. In the meantime, I still use the machine and just use a dish to catch the leak. Not the end of the world.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
