The plants you a showing here look more like Drosanthemum floribundum than Delosperma cooperi, you should check it. Great video ; )

I love this plant and as I am about to replace my grass with drought tolerant landscaping,I plan to use this iceplant as the primary focus. Do you have any other suggestions as to other ice plants or sedum that would work well in a front yard to cover the ground other than mulch and rocks, with similar properties as this plant. I am inland in ca. and it grows very well here getting into the 100's and also into the 30's.

I have seen on "the spruce" that "highway ice plant" or Carpobrotus edulis is considered invasive. I live in the north where it won't be an issue.

The plant that killed a few people off the cliffs near San Diego a month ago. The weight of the ice plant contributed to the collapsing of the sandstone cliffs in the area :(. I guess it didn't work as well as they thought for erosion.

Will this plant thrive in a climate like Chicago?

These plants are hardy to at least -4F. Not 20F. 20F is like a stroll in the park for them. I should know, I live in Canada.

I need a hardy version with my sandy soil for a groundcover.

Delosperma cooperi is not a great grower in California: it's a high altitude plant from interior South Africa--this does much better in interior USA (Like Colorado--where we first introduced it). It can go through -25F hereabouts. California can grow far more Winter growing ice plants from the West Cape, but the Eastern South African sorts (like D. cooperi) tend to bloom longer (they need summer rainfall to grow well).

Nonsense! We grow this in the same way in San Francisco
