Following the global tech outage that crippled computers worldwide, Delta Airlines is continuing to experience issues getting its operations running smoothly. NBC News' Tom Costello reports on the airline's cancellations and problems.

Delta is doing a great job in keeping me home. My flights were cancelled so I told the boss “sorry I couldn’t go on those business trips to Europe. My Delta flights were cancelled.”

@@erbol0011 that they were more ineffectual than the other companies and crippled markets while destroying people's dream trips and costing the customers over and above the clients when they fail resulting in mass compensation schemes to balance the failure?

This is a huge PR disaster for Delta, but the airlines have lowered the bar so low in terms of customer service that people are numb to it. They will just shrug it off and continue to blame whatever is most convenient. People will forget all about this as they have in previous years.

@@jusadude7162 they don't forget, its just on the percentage of their operations its a blip and many have brand loyalty for their safety record, or is there numbers on safety issues as well?

Hopefully delta will be back to normal soon! I have a flight coming next week and haven’t received any email about rescheduling or canceling my flights yet.

If companies are still not back online after the clownstrike disaster, they may have lost the bitlocker keys to unlock their disks due to bad IT management.

This shows how dependent the world is on computer software; a simple software flight crew scheduling software upgrade caused a massive system shutdown when they couldn’t assign pilots and flight attendants to already schedule flights. Other airlines had backup plans to reduce the flight crew scheduling software outage, but Delta had no contingency plans and just cancelled all their flights. Delta saved on wages and relied heavily on the software program with no backups.

Their job is to rebook. Check you in and Upload your documents for international flights. They are not IT.

Delta got us good. We are stuck in Maui for 2 extra days. Before you say thats a good thing, they wouldnt give us any vouchers for anything, claiming the computers dont work, and the employees are not allowed to say we'll be reimbursed. They booked us on Hawaiian airlines to get us home, but they put our 4 year old in a separate seat. We cant get any guarantee about our luggage transferring from Hawaiian to Delta, and we lost the value of our upgrades. I'll never fly Delta again. I get the pleasure of putting 2 additional nights and food for 4 in Maui on my credit card in the hopes I get reimbursed later.

I was totally about to say that's a good thing look at the bright side you spent to more days with your family in paradise. I recently broke several bones in my right leg live alone and can barely make it out my apt ill be forced back to work early and at this rate will never be able to afford a Hawaii vackay. When we think we have it bad someone out there has it worse

@@mikemadsen7926 I'm 100% disabled, have a daughter missing mandatory cheer practice and a 4 year old son that missed his speech therapy appointment. I was also scheduled this week for my on-call rotation at work which a teammate had to cover. This is additional pay I'm missing out on. Yes, Maui is great, but we had a schedule for a reason, and it's no fun having $2500 in unexpected expenses while the airline won't confirm we'll be reimbursed. So because you broke some bones I'm suppose to be super excited about this?

@@PhysifistEngineering I am really sorry you or your partner couldn't swap to have one of you with your toddler, all 3 of you separated would be terrifying to a small child. Worse places to get stuck though, sorry you will be so much more out of pocket. I would love to have had the opportunity to see Hawaii even if i had to spend years paying it off a credit card. Try enjoy the silver lining if you can. Thats a trip of a lifetime.

@@b3ckiv I'm pretty sure Hawaiian will move people around because it's illegal to sit a minor alone. Delta has done nothing to make this easier for us so the last 2 days in Maui have been very stressful, when the first 7 days were magical. It's irritating to know USDOT put the blame on the airlines but Delta is playing innocent and putting the onus on us to get relief. So we fly Hawaiian to LA and then transfer to Delta for the last leg, but we just got a text saying that flight might get canceled. So we might have to drive home, which is a 24 hour straight shot.

Delta should have a backup system, or at the very least be able to recover faster. Other airlines don't seem to be having nearly as much trouble.

Hardly. Have you forgotten last Christmas??? Not a CrowdStrike problem, it was self-inflicted. And, SouthWest has never been "the best". Unless you enjoy being treated like cattle.

Please, your trains can hardly stay on its tracks. Get better quality infrastructure before deciding to build rails everywhere. Get the money to build trains over the Pacific and Atlantic, too.

The time before i fought through my Pre verbal trauma, PTSD, pre existing to the 2020 onward CPTSD and battered wife syndrome (all diagnosed) was the January transport shutdown and industrial action on the railways here in the UK.

@@ProBallerJake7 i couldn't, the trains and flights were all cancelled according to the news, still trapped in a community wishing me dead, thanks to a different Jake who set me up funnily enough, thank you though. He was never never as supportive as your message in the years i worked for him before i had kids and he claimed my CV while i was out of industry on a break.
