I have the 10 inch version of this saw and absolutely love it! When I have dust collection hooked up there is almost no dust. It will perform enormous crosscuts by using precut 2x's to bring the cutting surface up enough to clear the fence. I work in half of a 2 car garage and the space saving of the "robo arms" really comes in handy. I put both cars in the garage every night, and this saw makes it possible. The space behind the saw required by a normal sliding miter was a non-starter for me. I of course replaced the stock blade with an 80 tooth Diablo and all my cuts come out feeling smooth as butter. If anyone is looking for a 12 inch sliding miter I would definitely consider the 10 inch Delta (or Ridgid) instead. This saw will do the work of almost any 12 inch out there, costs less and takes up less space. Awesome channel, by the way, keep up the good word. Really appreciate the Christian message too!

The dust collection problem is an easy fix!! Take off their dust deflection just behind the blade. There are a couple of T25 screws holding it on. After I took that off there is almost no dust forward of the fence!

Thanks for the update Matt! I actually bought this saw after selling my Dewalt 779 and then returned it a few weeks later due to the dust issue. I couldn’t believe how much dust I was eating! That was with a 100 tooth Diablo and dust collection hooked up. I loved the space saving design, but the dust explosions and blade deflection was a deal breaker for my kind of work. Overall though I really appreciated your unboxing video and review. I’m glad it’s working out for you!

I bought this saw after your review and absolutely love it. I’m working on the same dust issue. As for the fence slide out, I just unscrew the blue twist nuts in the back and they slide out very easy. Then lay down a sacrificial 2x6 and you can make like 18 inches cuts. Keep it up Matt. Good work 👊

One thing about those Diablo blades, is that the powder coating allows the sawblade to slip under the tension bolt. On my 7 1/4” 1985 vintage porter cable, I actually sanded or ground off that red paint around the locking bolt surface of the blade to stop the blade from slipping.

I've had the Bosch 12" Glide Compound MIter Saw for 5 years now and apart from the dust collection I love it. Gotta say that the deflection with the Bosch is minimal compared to what I observed in this video. Fun fact: the Bosch Glide is so friction free that contractor were complaining it was TOO smooth since they were used to other chop saws with rails that were worn and caused more friction. So Bosch added the ability to tighen a bolt to add more friction for those that wanted it ha ha

I completely agree with your review. One of the things I did to improve the dust collection (just a little bit) was by removing the splines in the hose connection. This stopped the sawdust from plugging up the connection. I also added a piece of 2" tape to the back of the rubber deflector to make it more ridgid. Again, minor improvements but ultimately a shroud will most likely be needed.

Yes, like a Fastcap or Rousseau dust hood and the vacuum hose connected to the bottom of the dust hood. With an auto start on the vacuum and the dust hood that should take care of 99% of the dust, even the super fine dust.

For the dust collection of this saw I improved it two ways. 1) Enlarge the dust collection "flap" area by attaching some rubber craft foam. You can simply use double stick tape to attach it and form a slight U shape there. 2) Whenever making a cut. Extend the saw so you are starting the cut as far forward on the material as possible and the plunge the saw. This simple technique change will help the collection more than I thought it should :) I dont have but a small shop vac on it and it works 20 times better than what you are showing there. Also at the beginning when you don't have dust collection hooked up, it sure looks like the shoot there could be partially clogged also leading to more and more stuff being shot out as its deflecting off the clog.
@731Woodworks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It's not clogged at all. There are some things I could try to improve it for sure.

Fun video! I'm a tool nerd and I love the looks of that saw. I Nervously purchased the Kobalt 10" Dual Bevel slider because it was on sale a few months ago for $219 and, wow. Square out of the box. Stock blade cuts smooth. Dust collection is really good, much better than my old one - just use a mini vac hanging on the wall behind it. Has a laser that really helps me line up my cuts and adjust easily. And oh, I love the color blue so, it's Kobalt blue to go along with all my other Kobalt tools in my little shop. Blade change will be a tad more difficult than my old saw but, other than that, I am so pleased!

Hey Matt. I remember when you first got this saw. I was very impressed, but after reviewing many other dual bevel sliding miter saws, I went with the Hercules dual compound sliding miter saw. The only thing that it doesn't have is the accordion slider. Other than that, the dust collection is great, there really isn't much play at all left to right. AND! The price. About half the price of a Dewalt, bosch and cruzer. Harbor Freight really knocked it out of the park with this. Thank you for your videos.

I finally just picked this up as an upgrade from my old Hitachi 10". I need something more accurate and with more capacity. I started looking and prices were kind of trash both on this and the Rigid. Then found it at Menards for $399 and $355 after their rebate. The 10" is $100 cheaper even. Excellent deal.
@JJPetro3 жыл бұрын
I have the same saw and love it. The 18" capacity you mentioned is there, but I think you missed it. It's pretty plainly stated in the instruction manual. Remove the blue fence locking knobs and top fences from each side. Rotate the small stops around that are on top of the bottom fence (they are near each blue knob is/was). Put in a sacrificial piece of wood in the table and you can now cut a 2 x 18. They even have a recess in the semi-circular part of the fence to accommodate a 2 x 18. Another cool feature is that small black button on the left side of the locking lever. Press the miter angle button down and hold it, then press that small black button. Release both buttons. This removes the detent feature of the miter angle button. Then you can easily rotate to any angle and lock in with the locking knob. I have to agree with you about the dust generation. The second gen saw (what you and I have) was supposed to address that issue but doesn't look like it has. How unfortunate, because otherwise, this is a great saw. I had planned to build an enclosure around mine anyway so its a moot point for me. Buttery Smooth! 😁

I run the Bosch at work, I've cut things you shouldn't cut with a saw of that price but it's eaten through it all and to this day it's still smooth as ice. I cant remember when that saw came out but I know I got it shortly afterwards. The only thing done to it for servicing was a cord replacement and bearings replaced

My old black and decker miter saw had a bearing going out year before last and my wife bought me a new kobalt 10" slider for fathers day. It works great,but lack alot in the accuracy dept. I adjusted it several times,but each time I tightened down the fences screws it would be off. Theres just to much slop in the manufacturing. It's good enough for framing work,but not furniture. Luckily I still have my radial arm saw for my finer work. I'd love to have the delta just for its accuracy and means of sliding. It's much better than the tube rail design.. all my work benches are 2ft deep and 8ft long because of the convenience of using half sheets of plywood for the tops. The conventional style miter saw forces me to leave the bench about 10" away from the wall. Glad you like it Matt.

I have no doubt that Delta Cruz is a terrific saw. If I may offer accolades on the Harbor Freight Hercules saw. I’m in the shop every day. I’m an addict. The Hercules was super precise out the box. I didn’t have to make a single adjustment. Even the blade that comes with it, is decent. I would still recommend something a little finer (I’m a saw blade snob). The negatives, it does have the extension arms and a large footprint. Additionally, the dust collection is absolutely horrendous. I bet the Cruz is better. I just picked up the Ridgid version of this saw, from all the KZbin videos and comments I was worried about the dust collection. I found that the dust collection worked fine, tested it all the way up to 12/4 cherry, with nominal dust. Maybe as someone commented, it helps to extend the saw all the way forward and then plunge for the cut, something about blade geometry?
@craigthimm1843 жыл бұрын
I think the “extra” cut is from removing the sliding fence and placing a think piece of 2x6 on the table, you should find a second small stop behind the main fence. So the sacrificial 2x6 gives you the base and then place your work piece on top for the cut

I bought this saw a month ago, in part after seeing your unboxing video. I agree 100% with your review, including the terrible dust collection. I also put that 80 tooth Diablo blade on it. In watching your explanation of the black rubber shroud meant to push the dust up, I wonder if a blade with more aggressive teeth (maybe even the stock blade) would “hold” the dust in the gullet longer to help push the dust more “up” and into the shoot than “back” just to deflect forward? Appreciate the review. I love the saw as well and would recommend. I hope to build a case around it eventually to help with the dust. But that’s a someday project.

I was really looking hard at this saw but because of all the recommendations I kept getting on the bosch axial glide, I just decided to spend the extra and get the 10 inch Bosch. I got a lot of negative reviews on the Delta and the rigid (same saw just in orange) in one of my finish carpentry groups on Facebook saying that after about 6 months they start getting a lot of slop and that deflection gets worse. The dust collection on the bosch is suppose to be way better also (still not the best tho). But it is easy to modify the Bosch to collect a lot more dust by making a custom boot. Its suppose to be here tomorrow. Haven't been this excited over a new tool in a long time lol

If it helps anyone, I’ve had this saw for about 2 years. I was on a long wait list for the V2 of this model. He’s spot on with everything. Dust collection is horrific but if it saves you the headache just know THEY ALL SUCK. Let’s have an honest conversation about that deflection. If you’re moving into ANY type of finer wood working, this matters. If you’re going to be making a 14” long cut that will be a BOx end or picture frame, something that has to be dead square. Do it on the table saw. This saw deflects too much for me past 8”. It’s just a matter of knowing your tools abilities. On the up side it’s a beast of a motor. Now that in mind put this saw on a 30amp breaker if you can. At start up it spools to 22 amps. I’ve done the testing.

The deflection is unacceptable. If the saw was 20 years old, great. Had a good life, but with a roughly 1/8" side to side with barely a finger on it - it's way, way, way too much. For rough cuts for framing or decks - amazing deal. For semi-fine work (case molding, baseboards, etc) - not gonna work for me. I'm going to return it and get the Makita slider cordless. It's 5x more, but that's why I started converting to Makita 4-5 years ago. Lesson: You get what you pay for.

Mine never came with any kind of light marker, but Amazon has a laser guide, (Oshlun LG-R01) that’s installed in place of the washer and it’s great! Mark’s my kerf exactly to the left. I have the same complaint you do when it comes to dust collection. The only one I have seen that really works well is a Festool, but who can afford that?

I know I can’t afford it lol.

Everybody says Bosch and Fesstool have the best dust collection on their mitre saws. I would copy theirs and modify yours. Just make it as close to their dust collection bottom shield thing.

I have this saw. And must have got it before they put light on it. And I would love that. But yes dust collection is horrible. Going to try and figure out a good way to stop saw dust.

Very good review! Wow, it does throw a lot of saw dust forward. I’ve also been looking at the Metabo. I wonder how it stacks up to the Delta?

So, if you don't push it side-to-side, you can get accurate cuts? Seems like you have to exercise the kind of attention to detail required by many tools. Do you agree?
@ChrisBloom3 жыл бұрын
I had asked you right after you got it how the dust collection stacked up against the dewalt. You indicated it wasn't as good. Well, my wife and son got me this saw for Christmas. I spent the weekend cutting 4-buh-4s (for my wife's new farmhouse kitchen table...that was the deal), and it did awesome. I agree on the dust collection though...for me, the shop vac takes maybe 65-70% of the dust out. But, since it's a 15 amp saw and my auto-on shop vac is 5 amps, my retractable extension cords in the shop keep tripping breakers. Another fix for another day :-) Thanks for the video.

I’m constantly trying to tinker with better dust collection on everything. I don’t have a Delta Mitre saw, but that dust would drive me crazy. From what I noticed in your video, I’d remove that useless flap and put a dust funnel behind it and hook it up to a dust collector. I can’t post pic on here, otherwise I’d show you what it looks like. Other option is to make a dust hood and vacuum afterwards. Either way, that rubber flap has to go. Try not to use 90s (even 45s if you can help it) on dust hoses. Hope this helps and maybe have a video on it. 🤣

I have a Ryobi 10". Dust is also a problem with it. About half goes up the dust port when the shop vac is turned on. It seems dust is a problem that is hard to solve with miter saws. You may have to make a shroud and put multiple hoses into which branch from one big hose.

I’m late to the party with questions. Seems Delta saws are no where to be found. So… a video on how to select a saw (sliding? compound? Single bevel? 10” vs 12”? etc.) all depending on budget and type of projects. The 12” Dewalt (non sliding) is on sale for $199. Or better to choose a quality 10” sliding model? Many around $299 like the articulating arm Rigid at HD. Plus the 10” blade should fit my table saw as well. Any advice?
@brucefrederick68413 жыл бұрын
I have the 10" version and have found when beveling a 1x12 at 45 degress it is off by 5/16" from 0" to 11.25" and that's a dry run. So when beveling all detents on the table are worthless....but when not making bevel cuts the detents are spot on. This is a fatal flaw that is not adjustable. If you do a lot of bevel cuts this saw is garbage. Luckily I only paid 349 from HD. BTW.....Delta service is crickets

Bought this saw November of last year. The slide mechanism is so smooth and this thing has plenty of power and is overall a joy to use. I had read that version 2 of this saw (which is likely what you have, as well) had addressed the deflection issue, but there is deflection if you put lateral pressure when extended (and there’s no reason for you to do that). I thought the deflection might be an issue with 45 degree miters, but they were dead on.

Don't buy it. Straight garbage. Went thru 2. And their Customer service sucks. They break easily. And the dust collection is the worst I've seen.

@@731Woodworks I'm currently leaning toward the Delta because it has the light line I like on the Dewalt 780, I have a small shop so the Dewalt is a bit big. The Delta is also less expensive than the Bosch.

Great video's as always Matt. I have a standard miter saw that is 20+ years old and now I'm looking at upgrading to a sliding model. At 1:25 into the video you talk about deflection right and left when fully extended. How do you ensure that you're getting a straight cross cut? Does it cut straight as long as you don't put pressure right and left? Thanks.
@731Woodworks Жыл бұрын
As long as you're not putting pressure left or right, it'll cut straight as long as your blade is sharp and you take your time.

I've watched 3 videos about this saw now and all 3 talk about how great and smooth the hinged sliding mechanism is, have people not used the Bosch? It's been around for a while now and it is buttery smooth.

Great review it has me leaning more towards the Delta now. But Man I wish you did a Delta Cruzer vs BOSCH GCM12SD. I cannot decide between the two. Hate Bosch doesn’t have a laser or shadow guide. Great video as always 🙏🏻

My miter saw has just been alone for a while. I just use my miter guage/fence for angled cuts on the table saw. Cross cuts i use the table saw sled. Not saying that a miter saw is useless, but I haven't had use for it lately.

Great, another saw added to my research list. I wonder how those slider models handle being on a rolling stand? I have limited space in my garage, so I use a rolling rigid stand to help setup and breakdown my eqpt.
@731Woodworks3 жыл бұрын
There is a slide lock to prevent it from moving when you are rolling the cart around

The tighter the tolerances around the saw blade, the more dust will be kicked around. A zero-clearence insert on a miter/chop or table saw necessarily shoots dust around because it isn't falling into the base of the machine. Same goes for a fence that is right up to where the saw blade tracks - that dust won't be able to shoot back into or behind the machine. It has to go somewhere, people.
