It's all about the mission, just like some guys want the green beret and then get into a team and dont like spending copious amounts of time with foreign units and dont find teaching to be all that "cool", well what tha hell did you think you would be doing, unilateral missions nonstop? C'mon. For you young guys, stop looking at the cool guy gear and read up and study their missions and specialties. I think its why going the Ranger Regt route is so important, you learn what you dont wanna do as much as what you do wanna do.

Had a guy from my unit get selected, but was about to be the sole parent of his daughter. Chose to not follow through. He was ETSing the same time I was retiring and was able to catch up with him He said when he was there, SEALs, JTACs, Marines were all there. It's great seeing him and his daughter on Facebook, camping, traveling, etc. I think it's best to go into this line of work as a single man lol

Thanks. Great job. I was in the 1/75th Ranger way back in the late 70's when they just started forming the Unit. My behavior during free time, mostly drinking, kept me from even trying in the mid 80's. Don't be stupid or do stupid shit if you want to be in Delta.

There are multiple reasons people go 82nd, Rangers, SF, Delta, etc. Any time someone’s ego got too big I reminded them that Audie Murphy was a “Leg.” “Big Wars” are generally won or fought by Draftees! I personally found most people went 82nd, Rangers, SF, Delta etc to either (1) be all they can be via personal challenges or (2) be among the “best” to increase odds of survival or at least die among the best if one has to perish. Having never served on Delta keep in mind, they admit, “we don’t always get the best guy, we always get the right guy.” Your motivation and competence are enormously important, but so is your personality! Are you the kind of guy they want to go with into battle is vital but are you the kind of guy they want to hang around with with is huge too. The fact that you can hit a target on a range at 1,000 meters 95% of the time is less import than being able to hit that same target only 90% of the time while be shot back at.

Email says enlisted E5-E8. Officer was O3-O4. Any Warrant can apply but have to decline their warrant commission. I’m just Artillery man. A lot of NCO’s and officers in my unit get that “Fort Bragg SMU” email.

@@joeseph4727 “Above the standard”. As long as you’re over minimum standards ie: 60,60,60 traditional or above minimum requirements for ACFT. Remember you’ll go to “prep” before selection. They will attempt to get you physically above and see how you mentally push yourself. It’s a good opportunity for all MOS. SRS had a former operator who explained how literal any MOS to include “softest mos” made it in. Due to their determination vs ultra body building types. They want be people without habits already engrained, his words not mine.

A friend of mines son was in the marines, got out went SF, from there went into Delta. He is retired now. When Barry was president he watched truckloads of ammo come into his post but delta couldn’t get enough ammo to train properly. He wasn’t happy

Based on my past experience you are selected, now with that being said I was selected to participate in the selection process based on a recommendation from my CSM in 1991. Never heard of putting your own paperwork in, guess I was that rare one never a Ranger or Green Beret, made it to OTC and fractured ankle and broke foot. Trust me if your a squared away soldier, they will find you.

My uncle went to Delta selection in the early 90s (he was former 75/3 Ranger, and current 3rd Group guy) he competed the selection but was not chosen to continue training. They just send you back to your unit and they do not tell you why you were not chosen. I think they offered to let him come back in a year but he didn’t go back.

Good info for the hard chargers. One unrelated question I have had about 3212 was if LaDavid Johnson was or was not an SF guy because that mission is always referred to as one where 4 green berets were killed, but in every pic I have seen of him he’s wearing the airborne beret, not the SF beret. Inconsequential in the reality of the situation, but a detail which has nagged at me.

No shit there I was back when jesus was in jordans at the shoppette one time at Campbell getting smokes as a young spc, and a crusty old e-8, but looked like he could out PT tf out of me, patches up to his neck airborne air assault jumpmaster all that and randomly came up to me and said i should try out for Delta. Somehow he knew I spoke 2 different languages, and knew someone I went to air assault with and I was like no i'm good sgt and turned the other way and when i turned back he was gone.

For those of you who want to go OTC. I have one piece of advice so listen up! Be prepared to get into your own head master your thoughts! If you can't master your own emotions and thinking you WILL BE CRUSHED!!! Better toughened your feet as well if not the long walk will destroy you! You may even run into a few hogs. Don't worry they want chase you well to far anyway. Lol 😂

The SMUs were designed for Hostage Rescue, Counter Terrorism and time sensitive direct action missions pertaining to HVTs and weapons of mass destruction.. The SMUs of JSOC have often been jokingly called the “Presidents Secret Army” because the level authority that JSOC takes their orders from. Green Berets have a much more cultural mission focus being they were designed for working and training up host nation indigenous forces. Foreign internal Defense and unconventional warfare are where Green Berets thrive in.. It’s not as a sexy as a unilateral organization like CAG, but their missions are no less important, just very different in metrics.

i met a direct support supply guy for delta on bragg and even he was a fucking PT stud. One of the 1SGT's in my unit got recruited by them for a shooter role but he was a FKN 1SGT ( E-8 for you nerds out there ). Sure on their mass e-mail that is sent out to infantry E-5's they will allow you to submit a packet but nobody signs off on them and if your CO, BC, 1SGT and CSM all approve and the stars align in your favor, even the S-1shop at the unit will throw that shit in the trash can. That unit does not joke around and they give zero fucks about looking cool, coming up a few seconds short on 40 mile rucks and a few targets shy of expert. they will shit can you just as fast as they found you. I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with Delta from the ground level with zero military experience. these dudes need to get through a selection of any kind first of any branch and then start asking about darkside units.
