@@ScoutCrafter your very welcome I've got alot more actually if your cool with it? Like we touched on the usage of crows foot wrenches and bit we never really talked about how they work this company I found named HARRY-J-EPSTIENS.. is the oldest family ran hardware store in america with largest select of tools also and they have ide guess 14K different sizes and shapes and inside pattern of the actual mouth of wrenches. And if you could talk about them like some are 8 sides square / stars / boxes with 18 facets inside it's really facinating designs but I don't know how they are used and have never seen such a assortment some are 4 Inches across and have enormous handles that look like jack handles thanks again

One more comment on the Beryllium Wrench. You were right Ampco does make beryllium copper wrenches in addition to Aluminum-Bronze wrenches. Berylco makes beryllium copper wrenches also. I have seen numerous tool videos on KZbin discussing the safety of the tools. These tools are primarily copper and are alloyed with up to about 2% Beryllium. The Beryllium in alloy gives the copper strengths approaching tempered steel which is why they are used in these special tools. The are strong and are non-magnetic and non-sparking so they are typically used in hazardous working environments. The only warning the manufacturers give about use of the tool is to avoid doing grinding operations that could create respirable dust. However this is largely a pre-cautionary measure. Breathing in pure beryllium dust or fumes from welding can cause a lung disease called berylliosis. However the Beryllium Copper metal manufacturers don't have health data on Beryllium Copper alloys only on pure beryllium. Bottom line is they are completely safe to have around your shop or in your tool collection. Just avoid grinding them.
@ScoutCrafter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Duane! It’s funny because normally people wouldn’t have to think about such hazards but my normal routine is to grind and sand a wrench before polish so I had to leave all my beryllium tools tarnished. 😩. What a shame! 😃👍 Thanks!!!

I want to tell you about another great tool n equipment show where I live in Titusville NJ. About 8 miles north of Trenton. Delaware Valley Old Time Power & Equipment. Every year. Great old time tractors, steam powered, lots of old tools. Runs on the weekend, not sure of the date, in September. This is in Washington’s Crossings State Park, where he started his March on Trenton, Christmas night, 1776. Hope to see you. God Bless, Carl.

That's a great explanation of hardness. Very simple easy to understand without having to go into all the crazy stuff about the different chemistry. Such as the S2 steel that's sometimes used in the hex keys. Which is essentially a spring steel to help when you have the 800 pound gorilla trying to turn his... 9/16 fastener!
@ironhead653 жыл бұрын
And to be clear, it's a shock resistant spring steel

Must be the "Crescent Alloy" mine is the exact same way and it looks so nice I left mine like that too.............Files are handy and I use one often but it's usually just for things like knocking off burrs, easing an edge and such really quick.........I have so many files I'd have to live to 50,000 years old before I wore them all out..........I think GM must have given the guys all new files yearly when my Dad was a Pattern Maker, he used to give me handfuls of new or almost new files all the time back then.........Makes me wonder how many he has stored in his old toolboxes.

My lesson in hardness this previous weekend was a husky pry bar loosing a chunk of metal when it slipped off a framing nail I was trying to remove lol. Hey ScoutCrafter, i have an old primus camp stove that is leaking gas from the knob..... that was an interesting first lite. Well the O-Ring looks good but it might have shrunk? tilly lamps and stoves sells vintage rebuild kits. Primus also has parts for all stoves made. My suggestion is replace. Soaking may work but the o rings lifespan is done.

Tony, funny thing is when I was young I was given a set of files to use and being I didn't have any way to shape metal I spent hundreds of hours filing. I pretty much learned to file without a handle and actually prefer it when hand filing, the only times I use a file handle is on the lathe. Whenever I showed people how to file I always supply a handle but for me it's hard to get used to them. =D

You mentioned not liking the news because of the distress that it causes. It may be worth trying this out for a few months. If you see something on the news that distresses you, find the charity that best meets the needs online (this US site is good) and at the end of the month donate a small amount that you can afford to to what you personally feel is the most deserving cause. I only donate about something like $15-20 each month and to some it's not worth bothering with but to me, I'm at least doing something constructive. It's not the type of thing you'll talk about much on your channel, but it may be something that reopens the world for you - give it some thought. Maybe you should think about selling tools to raise a bit of cash for charity - but don't feel obliged. Best wishes...!
