I used to always have tub o' towels in my work van when I was still going out on the road. Didn't always have a place to clean my hands to eat lunch. John, you forget that before the break-up of Ma Bell we didn't own our phones as well as the lines in our homes. We rented them from the phone company. That's why most homes had only one phone/phone location. If you attach that lamp better to that block of wood, you could hang it from the joists, but you might have to rearrange the springs. Keeping your kidneys is a good thing I hear.

Seems everbody for a kidney is out of luck! Very pleasant surprise thus far 😀 My grandfather bought those lamps at the flea market for a buck and screwed that block of wood to his shop walls, I have had such good use our of that. And some warmth in the winter with those old bulbs. What amazes me is, like with you, he actually thought of that himself, no internet or other exemples. I myself go by experience, I don't seem to come up with those ideas out of my head sadly.

Thanks John, glad you shared these recordings. I have that very Stanley 6 way screwdriver (twice) it has its limitations but it's so handy to have around the house, and gets used so much because of that ! The Kraeuters came out well, I have a modern Bahco round nosed plier that I use for exactly that purpose, but also recently acquired a pair of the stepped wire-bending pliers. I've got an old angle-poise in the workshop to repair, but unfortunately mine lacks the post at the bottom so I need to fabricate something to mount it by, I certainly need more directional "task" lighting in the shop !

Hi John I restored a few antique chandeliers a few years back and used pliers (bought several sizes) similar to the 1611 to bend the pinning wire for hanging the crystals. Took a bit to get the motion down, but a must have when doing work like that. The lamp is great for the work bench. Thanks for sharing.

Scout, my eye catches on that clothes dryer, tucked in there all snug and cozy - because it reminds me of mine. I assume there is a washer nearby. Modern appliances with plastic gears and chinese electronics have a 5 year lifespan, even if seldom used. I'm told this is perfectly normal - just deal with it. I'm wondering if there is an issue with swapping them out. My solution was to abandon them in place - and go over to my neighborhood laundromat. Your WWI era boiler is classic.
