A second installment in how to rebuild a circa 1944 Unisaw, Delta's flagship table saw. In this installment Steve Shanesy takes a look under the tabletop to rehab the inner working parts. Along the way he changes the arbor bearings to get the arbor running smooth.

How do you put the belts on after you have reassembled it?

He put the keyed washer in wrong side up, concave side needs to face out.

I did exactly like you did, and I cracked and shattered the Casting. Apparently there is also a retaining ring that oyu need a spanner wrench for that you did not show on your demonstration here. Now I have to find a new casting. Shit, Shit, Shit!

This is not a restoration. Its a cleanup and some maintenance. Disappointing! That old saw deserves better.

That saw is in very clean shape! Same vintage as mine- 1944. I bought it from an old guy in 1979, fixed it up, & am still using it most days in 2022.

I am restoring 80s Unisaw and your video is helping me a lot so thank you for that. I just realized that my machine is missing a dust reflector and wondering how it works and if I should try to find it and install. Thanks.

He didnt mention to retighten the pulley's allen screw after reassembly. i would personally put some graphite powder on the trunion parts and gear teeth.

I have a Delta 36-725 table saw. The blade was wobbling every time. I replaced the blades several times and still the same wobbling. What do you think is the problem? Do you think I have to replace the complete arbor with the bearings or the replacement of the bearing only? Thank you.

Great info! Amazingly similar to my 2000 model Unisaw! Mine will not register at a full 90 deg tho even with the stop bolt removed! Maybe sawdust built up on top of the cast? Thoughts?

well i was really dumb and I used a long socket that was JUST barely big enough to fit around the pulley shaft to drive the bearing down on it - and i smashed up the threads pretty good!! DO NOT do what I did !!

You put That keyed washer on upside down, the cup of it is not digging into the bearing seal

Shame on you Delta. You use nonstandard threads on your arbor so I can’t rethread and when I try to buy a replacement arbor for my 36-953 type 2 Unisaw, I am being told that part is not available.

You rethread it on a lathe between centers like any other precision high speed part.

Seriously, shame on you for not going to your local machine shop and having them turn your arbor shaft for you. Instead you just complain about an easy fix

2:20 WD-40 is not a lubricant. Great for cleaning/degreasing, bad to lubricate with.
@TheGlobalMind

"WD-40® Multi-Use Product protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything." Literally from their product page. Your opinion may be that it isn't a good lubricant, but stating factually that it is not one...well, the mfg disagrees. : )

@@TheGlobalMind You mean the marketing department for the WD-40 company disagrees. Lets rephrase this since you're being a bit picky: WD-40 is not a proper long-term lubricant for gears.

@@TheGlobalMind Go ahead, spray WD on your bike chain and ride your bike through 6 incheas of dry silt and see what happens.

@@derekcraig3617 Used it for years my fellow. I know. I have better stuff for bike chains. To use WD-40 as a lube to clean a surface...yep that works just fine. Folks don't seem to quite get the application of "lubricant". When you wet sand, using water, guess what the water is? Ding! Lubricant. Same applies here. He's in part, using the WD-40 as a lube in cleaning. Not necessarily for long term application. Again, I use other stuff for that.
