HANDS DIRTY:
I could raise the crops from the earth
I could raise my children from birth
But when I’m looking for work
They say that job ain’t for her
I could be a good man’s wife
I could give a new child life
But when I fight for my rights
They say no woman no cry
But I ain’t giving up
I can’t count on luck
CHORUS
I get my hands dirty
I show up so early
They show me no mercy
So I just keep working
Maybe God could save me
Or my boss might pay me
Right now no one serves me
Maybe their hands are dirty?
I could lead impossible missions
Occupy the highest position
But when I ask them to listen
They disregard my opinion
Well, I ain’t asking no more
I will command the floor
I’m breaking every glass ceiling
I’m building skyscraping buildings
And when that next storm comes
I’ll do what I always done
CHORUS
I get my hands dirty
I show up so early
They show me no mercy
So I just keep working
Maybe God could save me
Or my boss might pay me
Am I so unworthy?
Or are their hands just dirty?
I have seen the other side of the mountain
Where every queen will be afforded her throne
And I will stand beside my sisters
And all persistent resisters
They’ll say I knew it would come true
And I’ll say darlin me too
I get my hands dirty
I show up so early
They show me no mercy
So I just keep working
Maybe God could save me
Or my boss might pay me
Right now no one serves me
Maybe their hands are dirty
CHORUS
I get my hands dirty
I show up so early
They show me no mercy
So I just keep working
Maybe God could save me
Or my boss might pay me
Am I so unworthy?
Or are their hands just dirty?

I haven't followed Country music in decades...since I had to pull my car over, because a song had me crying too hard to drive. So, I had never heard of Delta Rae, until I read an article about this song. I will definitely be paying attention to Delta Rae now. I know how a Country artist can be entrenched in politics, whether they want to be or not. I remember what happened to The Dixie Chicks when they went political. Equality for women shouldn't be a partisan issue. Everyone should want people to be treated the same, no more, no less. Wanting our daughters to live in a world where their voice matters shouldn't make us liberal. Sadly, that doesn't appear to be the case. Thank you Delta Rae. Thank you for standing with ALL women, regardless of who may be offended. That's on them. We are only accountable for ourselves. I appreciate your courage in using your platform to hopefully facilitate change.

Delta Rae are never a country band. They are classified as southern gothic music, very far from Country origins since they used gospel, blues and folk

First thing that popped into my head the first time I heard this song was "this is my mom." Idk if she liked the song when I showed her but I can't listen to this without thinking about that tiny badass from Chicago. I can't listen to it without thinking about the good she's done for me and the challenges she's faced. Cheers to all the ladies out there getting their hands dirty, I'm right there with you.

Let's make this clear for ya. Despite what they say they do, feminists only care about womens rights. They don't fight for equal rights for everyone, equality only goes as far as it benefits women.
@elderly_gentleman9489
@elderly_gentleman9489 5 жыл бұрын
Oh gosh I don't want a comment war... but you're thinking of the (loud) minority. Most feminists really do want equality for everyone- including men. Including kids. Including anybody who is at risk of being slighted or taken advantage of- and anyone who is not. Everyone deserves to feel safe. Sex should not define what benefits a person receives. That's real feminism. Not sexism like the "feminazis" encourage. I really don't want a war- this is just what I've observed through personal experience:)
@johhada9304
@johhada9304 5 жыл бұрын
@@elderly_gentleman9489 don't the people who speak up and work for what the movement does define what the movement is about? Feminism has turned to an entirely different movement than what it used to be. If you are a feminist and care about ALL peoples rights, then you should stop calling yourself a feminist. All i'm saying is, you are following the WRONG movement.
@elderly_gentleman9489
@elderly_gentleman9489 5 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying- I'm just hoping that someday we will be able to get back to the original meaning. If you look up the definition of feminism, it means equality for all sexes- and while "feminism" was probably a bad word to choose for it, that's the word we have. I guess I agree with the definition of the term and not the movement:)

I remember seeing this for the first time. Obviously, I loved it! I was touched, emotional but didn't really feel like crying. It touched something inside me, sure; I was relating to it, absolutely but I kept thinking that I got so used to being exposed to the ugly truth of the world on a regular basis that this wasn't going to make me cry. Until I saw the little girl for the first time. She didn't say "me too", she didn't mouth the words like some others, she just looked at the camera and I broke down. It was like someone turned a switch in me, happened so fast, so suddenly. One second, my eyes weren't even watered; the other, I was sobbing, absolutely destroyed. This is not the first time Delta Rae did it, and I don't think it will be the last. I just feel sad that they're not getting nearly enough attention just like the issues they cover.

Only de discovered the song about 6 or any months ago. I've been dragged through the mud through life by my teeth. My children are with CPS I've done everything but every time there's a door shut I don't cry for me and my lack of time with my children I cry with all the women in my situation I cry with all the women whose children have had to go back to their abusers over and over weekend and holiday after holiday I cry with all the women who have been through domestic violence called the police left went to the Women's Center stayed with the families got therapy will need to lose their children to CPS only to have the their abuser get the kids never see the kids again except at the funeral. I cry with all the women from the reservation whose children were removed simply because they were Native whose mothers never seen them again in this life
