In the main route, she tries Fireshock on an ice boss at her father suggestion, but the boss reflects fire. Iceshock could be the boss's hidden weakness, for all we know. Some elemental weakness in JRPGs aren't always the obvious ones.

Berdly may be just some annoying kid for the player, but he's a close friend to Noelle, he fights you in genocide to save her from "Kris", and she herself kills him. That makes everything even worse lol

im betting it's not even kris doing this, but YOU the player of a post genocide undertale. the pacifist of deltarune seems to be about getting your agency back from chara (ripping your soul out isnt fatal, and doesn't appear to actually do anything malicious if the fakeout was anything to go by. im betting there will be another fakeout.) this though? chara already tainted you. now they are gonna taint your friends. god..imagine what an evil ralsei would be like. an evil lancer. chara isnt out to kill everyone anymore. they are out to build an army of like-minded killers. and kris is his tool.

What if, since Noelle's technically the one to have killed, and her LV would presumably go up. Then by the end, you watch in horror as your choices led an innocent friend to a murderous rampage, and be struck down by Sans, someone who may not know who the real 'monster' is. Now _that_ would be a dark twist ending.

Some else pointed out to me that at the end of the Spamton NEO fight when selecting the ACT to call for help, the text states that Kris calls for help. However, when calling for Noelle, the text states that “You whisper for Noelle”; not Kris, YOU.

and the "whisper" part is hell'a scary like, noelle say that she hear a voice that was not from kris, but something else, and during the route frequently you say "prooced" instead of what kris usually express (emotions like fear or feeling not right) and that ring that you give to her specifically list "trance" like an ability, so is possible that that is why you only "whisper" because that was enougth to Force noelle to use her power in the spamton

The ring making Noelle gain the Trance ability is also probably why she failed to recognize Berdly, then told him to run away, because she knew she'd be forced to freeze him. On a similar note, since you're the one in charge of everything, it could be that Noelle didn't remember buying the ring or solving the puzzle because you made the game jumpcut to the action's completion...

The pure genius of this is this entire corruption arc you do to Noelle is a loop hole against the “Your choices don’t matter” It wasn’t your choice to kill all those monsters, you just asked Noelle to use her ability like instructed and her ability just so h a p p e n e d to kill all those monsters and she just so h a p p e n e d to get traumatized by it. It just so h a p p e n e d that Berdly just.... didn’t wake up. ;)

I do think our choices matter though. First chapter we can scare everyone and have them drive you out of the dark world or they help you overthrow the king if you are nice. Second chapter you can be nice and have the darkners form a Megatron robot or not. And you may also kill berdly and traumatize noelle or you can have berdly become better person and norlle more assertive. Our choices do matter even if the ending doesn't change

It’s interesting how Berdly still had a physical body in the lightners world even though he died, and how most likely to the normal eye they were all just asleep in the computer room. It makes you think about the existence of Ralsei and Asriel.

He might've "Fallen Down" in monster terms, So His body will turn to dust after awhile. I don't think anyone could see into the Computer Lab from it being turned into a Dark world but Probably through a camera would work. Darkners have a weird existence but they exist on some level even Ralsei... It's too soon to make any theory that hold any water yet.

Definitely was more willing to team up with Noelle than Berdly, and I was fine fighting/sparing him in a battle where he wouldn't really be hurt, but killing him? Making Noelle kill him? Seeing that he isn't waking up after we leave the Dark World? I don't *like* the guy, he's an arrogant and annoying know-it-all, but I didn't genuinely want him *dead.* Wow this path is dark.

@@smileyface81mc77 Oh yeah, it was definitely intentional. "Here's an unlikable but otherwise generally harmless character who poses no real threat to you - how will you treat him?" Berdly also has a couple redeeming qualities, in his genuine friendship with Noelle, and none of his flaws come anywhere close to making killing him a justifiable option. He's the kind of guy you probably wouldn't want to befriend and may avoid, not someone to try to kill off. And honestly - even if he was a lot worse, he's, what, 16? Younger? And we're trying to kill him off because he got on our nerves a few times/to see what happens? No, that definitely makes US the bad guy in the situation, not him.

I saw someone else doing this run and saw a slight change in the ending dialouge with noelle in the hospital. I'm guessing he equipped one of noelle's starting accessories to Kris because instead of asking "Then why did their voice sound so terrifying just now" she asks "Kris, Why are you wearing my watch?". The video is a full playthrough by a channel called Shayy.

It’s crazy what’s happening! And here I thought Deltarune truly wouldn’t have a Genocide route, and even if it did, I thought it would have minor changes for being chapter 2 of a 7 chapter game. But here we are! Corrupting an innocent girl without anyone else knowing, the secret boss of pacifist becomes the final boss in genocide, and the frickin murder of a kid. I don’t know how the story will continue for either Pacifist or Genocide (and maybe Neutral) but I am HERE FOR IT!

Even back in Undertale there were implications that the Player is basically an eldritch entity. We don't see time like the Characters. We can just reset over and over again if we like, until we eventually get our way, courtesy of our D E T E R M I N A T I O N

@@The5lacker I also remember being creeped out by how *DETERMINATION* (all caps), which is the power that the player used in Undertale to come back after a "game over", to "save", to "load up a previous save", etc. is meant to have a double meaning; the "DE" can be seen as a way of saying "un" like the way other words have "un" as a prefix (words such as unpleasant or unresponsive), combining that with "TERMINATION" (which usually means ending something) and we basically have the power to "un"-end within the context of the game[s]. Whenever they talk about determination as a feeling it's lowercase but whenever they referenced it as a sort of power it's uppercase.

Interesting observation: birdly leaves a corpse (?), whereas monsters, by lore, should turn into dust on death. Just wanted to point this out. Edit: after a bit of thinking, I remembered that the state "fallen down" was mentioned in the true lab, so kris could hide the body in the closet and he could dust later.

i think both are a problem since the dark fountain obviously didnt show up until relatively recently (they had a fucking storage closet in there and it was one until it fully turned into one when the papers fell down in chapter 1) meaning his sprung up too, meaning i dont understand why he is immune nor able to travel between fountains.

quite honestly, if you do the normal route first, then the Snowgrave route ... it hits you 10x harder. seeing noelle slowly submitting is so heartbreaking. especially if you get the thorn ring and you know shes getting tortured basically. not alot of things scare or shock me, but ... damn.

8:00 Actually your half to correct. The Snowgrave spell actually unlocks in this Berdly fight but it would cost 200% of TP which is Impossible cause it can only go to 100% The Thorn ring makes it so it reduces the coat of ice type spells. Reducing Iceshock to 8% and Snowgrave to 100% It's also worth noting that during the fight even when it's your turn Noelle will rapidly lose HP the minimum it can go down is 55 HP. Still this route is more unnerving then the Genocide route... Because your making someone think turning people into icecubes is ok...

This route seems so sick and twisted to me... I was never able to complete the genocide run in Undertale because of how horrible it made me feel. This is on another level. It's not even you that is killing everyone, you are forcing an innocent person to be twisted and warped into a broken scared killing machine. This is worse than the Undertale genocide run to me in so many ways. I felt sick after watching this. Toby, this was absolutely horrifying. Still good as a story aspect... But wow...

I love how part of the twist involving Noelle's character is that, for whatever reason (I can only assume her mother's pressure), she's going against her specialties if you choose to not corrupt her. At first glance she's like an FF white mage style healer, only to realize that her heal costs a ridiculous amount of TP compared to Ralsei's. Meanwhile, her damaging spell is so low cost. I can't say too much without more context from future chapters obviously, but it really feels like the game's trying to tell you that she's a natural at killing with the slightest push - by the time she's fully corrupted, she's EASILY the strongest character in the party, and if her damage numbers are anything to go off of with her magic by the end, one of the strongest characters - if not the strongest character - we've seen in Deltarune just in general. In FF terms, she's a black mage trying to be a white mage, and could be a deeper indication that maybe it's some kind of symbolism of how her mother's overbearing personality is holding back her confidence and thus also her potential. Which could also be why, to some extent, Noelle welcomed Kris' pushing to let loose because she finally felt she didn't need to hold herself back. Even if she's been permanently traumatized by it, part of the conflict comes from the idea that she also probably loved the power she felt when she didn't need to worry. Just my two cents.

What I like about the different dialogue, is that it implies a... _finalization_ to making Kris's choices matter. Kris is about to tell Noelle he put her watch on "In your dream." implying it was real for her on some level and making Susie's white lie pointless... but it's implied Susie came in and interrupted Kris. During this entire run, the dialogue hinges on a line of light and dark as the world STRUGGLES to fix its tone, but it can't. Kris made sure of that. Edit: Just found out, Kris does this either way.

So here are my questions: 1. Can you continue off of endings like this? Ones that are completely different to the vanilla ending. 2. Will branching paths occur like this again in future chapters, allowing for more endings? 3. If the answer to the 2 questions above are “Yes”, then can you mix together those paths? Because, damn, I feel like this is major and could change things. And another question: 4. Even getting this ending, or other different endings that may be in other chapters, will the following chapter be exactly the same as it would be in a normal playthrough? I’m asking this because whilst Berdly is now “gone”, if the next chapters include nearly no characters from previous chapters in their dark world, then the gameplay and overall story would be exactly the same. This got really long, and I have no idea whether this will actually be suited for a KZbin comment, but that’s it.

Well, what I can say for 4 is that, Kris opens up a Fountain, or, a Dark World in his house, meaning that Toriel would be in that Dark World and maybe Undyne will go into it since Toriel called the police So it is likely that Noelle and Birdly won’t play a major role in Chapter 3

One theory is that the endings to each chapter will remain the same, they will just have different implications depending on what you've done, kinda like the flavor text for gathering up everything in the library and the whole closet flavor text

I just realized the parallels between this and the genocide route. I’ll be using the Dusttale AU as reference, so it might not hold water, but hear me out! In Undertale, the Genocide route was (basically) equally as likely as the Neutral and Pacifist routes. You could go through the whole game doing a Pacifist or Genocide routes and you could do one as much as the other. But in Deltarune, the worst you can do in Ch 1 is a Jerk Pacifist, where you beat up everything, but never kill. But in Ch 2, you can do a Genocide route, but it requires a lot of know how in order to do it. You have to do a lot of arbitrary steps in order to get it right and it’s very easy to just stop doing it or to get it wrong. I think this plays to Undertale/Deltarune fan’s curiosity. The fandom is so hungry for everything relating to Undertale/Deltarune that they’ll do anything for more. They took Gaster, who in-game is extremely obscure, and made him one of the biggest characters in the fandom. There are dozen upon dozen of AUs, ranging from complete overhauls to very minor tweaks in their changes. They’ll take anything as long as it’s new. The Dusttale AU plays on this, where the story is that after hundreds of Genocides, Sans has enough and breaks, kill everyone to get stronger. A character in that AU questions whether or not the player did this just to find something new, in which he succeeded. Ch 2 plays on this feeling of want for something new. It give the player something new, in exchange of doing something so horrible to one of its characters, that some fans consider what happens in the SnowGrave route to be worse than what happens in Undertale Genocide. If anyone in the shoes of Kris did what happens in this route, they would be considered some of the worst scum of society. But the fans did it anyway, why? Because it was new.

Jesus those last two lines gave me shivers- We the players are so cruel, we might not be starting some of the drama but we sure as hell aren’t helping Kris literally has to rip out their soul just so they can control their own body and even then they struggle to move, making jerky, short, and slow steps. We sit and watch in suspense as a poor kid is forcing their body to do what THEY want instead of what WE want the damage sound is heard when Kris is doing this so it’s clear that they’re physically hurting themselves just to be able to actually control their body That and we can see their reaction to the pain, forcing their hand into their chest and ripping out what is essentially an organ with their eyes wide and hunched over. I remember immediately going to the cage at the start of chapter 2 and interacting with it and the line shook me: “A birdcage, when it’s closed there’s no escape” And everyone are massive hypocrites! We say that what we’re doing to Kris/Frisk or whoever is awful BUT WE KEEP DOING IT! I dislike what we’re doing to Kris but I know I’m probably going to play the next chapters and probably even repeat them! We are cruel no matter what we do

Much like the Undertale Genocide route, the process of getting this playthrough is incredibly specific and easy to miss... Yet it explores a lot of things one would never encounter on a Pacifist run, or even just a neutral run where you kill but don't follow the exact rules. Edit: Watching this makes me feel deeply uncomfortable. Like, moreso than the Genocide Route in Undertale, if that makes any sense. What Kris (through the player's actions) does to Noelle, a sweet girl who can't bring herself to say no to what Kris asks her, is legit sickening. Edit2: There's also a lot less pomp and circumstance when it comes to the revelation of "the Roaring". It almost feels likes like dialogue that needs to be there in order for things to make sense when the full game is released, but also feels like Toby knows people are only going to try this route after already doing a Pacifist run, so they might as well bog you down with all that... or maybe the "Grandness of adventuring in the Dark World" isn't really necessary in this run, since it feels like anyone trying a Genocide/Snowgrave run is just trying to get through the game more quickly... in a way, it feels similar to the message of Undertale's Genocide run, grinding up LV to speed through the rest of the game, like missing the forest for the trees, you know?

I kinda got the opposite impression about the dialogue with Queen. Seeing this, it feels like there's no real reason for Ralsie to wait until after the fight to tell Queen why making more dark fountains is a bad idea. I get that there needs to be a "final battle" for each chapter, but it seems a lot more fitting for Ralsie to just end it before it begins.

No one is talking about the fact that in the hospital room scene the music sounds like that one OMORI theme in headspace. Andd Toby did work on OMORI so I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a reference, which Toby has already even inspired by some of OMOCAT’s work (for example woshua) so it might be possible. I guess you could say that noelle will have her own *headspace* now!

Btw I love how this chapter answers like all of the questions left by the other one ("who is the knight?" "is the dark world like a toy world?" etc), that means these questions were not the climax of the game, which is a great thing because we don't know what to expect

This reminded me of when Chara says that the seak of more power made you, the player, kill everyone in Undertale. While in Deltarune, is Kris who slowly corrupts Noelle, making her think that what she is doing is okay because she is "getting stronger". Also, as she thinks (or thought) it is (or was) a dream, she didn't feel that guilty. Exactly as the way you thought "it's just a game, i'm not hurting anyone, i'm not doing something bad... right?"

Something I'm just realizing is that Noelle is saying all the stuff in paranthesies to herself. So when she says 'did I say that out loud?" she actually didn't. Making it more terrifying to know that Kris/whatever THEY are, is hearing her thoughts.

I haven’t tried this run for myself but lord knows I don’t think I would have figured it out so easily. This is fucking smart and great, it’s different in all the right ways. And it still managed to be pretty terrifying. Can’t wait to see some theories come out the wood work cuz I know they’re coming strong this time.
