Deltarune Chapter 2: Ralsei and Susie's Cotton Candy Adventure (Fan Animation)

I'm not sure what sort of ghoul or creature it is that invaded my brain, but I suddenly had the intense need to animate this. I'm not complaining, thank you ghoul :)

As Susie put it, this was all pretty sweet and is nice to watch them just interact and open up without any stakes. Though I imagine, depending on the player's actions, it could contrast with how Kris and Noelle Proceed through the city with it growing ever colder as they go.

Hehehe, technically in chapter 2's normal route the both of them are re-introduced while still at the fair and while eating cotton candy. The animation ends with them going into the city and them leaving the fair, so, *technically*, this would make more sense if it WAS taking place in a Snowgrave run. But that is scary and sad so I imagine Susie going "Shit, this is the wrong way" and the two of them running back into the fair right after it fades to black. It would be sad otherwise 🥲

Fun fact: A lot of the lines in this were taken directly from things my girlfriend and I have said/done. We often joke that Toby is living in our walls and basing these characters off his birdwatching of us. All the support this has gotten has only reaffirmed my theory, and I will be breaking a hole in my wall very soon.

This is genuinely the sweetest thing I've seen in months. Two friends opening up to eachother about their insecurities and emotions just feels so great to watch. I was kinda doubting Ralsei's status as my favorite Deltarune character, but after watching this, there's no question. I'm so grateful I watched this. This video is also hysterical, like the mustard, and the Sushi creation (the art of Susie that Ralsei paints on the wall is called "Sushi" in the files)

( i don't believe he's evil and there's no convincing me of that terrible plot twist) I would say that makes him interesting. There's also the whole magical dark castle with things waiting in it that he doesn't even know about. or at the very least, hasn't told us about. We really don't know how long he was waiting there or what it was like... did he have family at one point? what happened to them? was he always alone? what's his backstory? how does he know the prophecy? was it told by his parents? where are his parents? Are you trying to say he's shallow? a very one dimensional boring character? that doesn't sound like one to me.

Kinda actually! I had a whole sequence thought out about how Ralsei would teach her how to heal, but the setting was so removed from the rest of the ideas I had that I scrapped it. I might make some sort of prequel/part 2 to this video one day and have that explained haha.

Something I love about Deltarune is how great some of the fan made content for it is, animations like this one match the art style perfectly and the characters are acting exactly how they honestly feel like they should. Like if this showed up in a later chapter as a flashback it wouldn't seem out of place in the slightest.

I saw people in the comments discussing when this would take place during actual chapter 2, so I'll give my thoughts. I'm guessing because of how rushed Susie seemed to be to find the last mini-doughnuts (and somehow knowing they were the last) this animation doesn't take place right after Susie took Ralsei away from the intersection where they split off from Kris. This would also explain why they weren't eating cotton candy from somewhere Kris and Noelle were able to see them, as well as why the healing magic wasn't taught on-camera. I'm going to guess that, in canon, Kris and Noelle's trek through the city isn't exactly a speedrun. It's probably significantly longer than even a first-time player's experience with that section. There should be plenty of time for this animation to fit in nicely between what we see in the game. We only see a few scenes, after all. Also, like everyone else is saying, this very much fits Deltarune. I can see this being a real interaction.
