I LOVED THIS! Everything. From Noelle wanting to hang out with us, even though it kind of only really happens in Chapter 2, to all the music being slightly off key, to even Susie's fear, at the end of Chapter 1, of having the Dark Worlds being the only method of her making friends not actually being a real thing! You just gotta lend a helping hand and be understanding to make friends; going on life and death adventures probably isn't the best way to make a friend. This gave me the same wholesomeness as Chapter 1's ending with Susie becoming a much nicer and happier person.

This is pretty good, but Berdly feels REALLY out of character. Sure, he was an ass in chapter one, but even he can admit that Kris is the third smartest. It feels unnecessarily dickish. If your Berdly dialogue doesn't feel like an early Pokemon rival, you didn't write Berdly!

A lot of people have the theory that suggest that Deltarune takes place in a time loop, or at the very least that somebody is able to act in the world of Deltarune with foresight of how their actions will affect the future. (BY THE WAY, Y’ALL SEE HOW THE SECOND HALF OF THAT SENTENCE PROPOSED AN *ALTERNATIVE* TO TIME LOOP THEORY? YEAH. STOP COMMENTING AND SAYING HOW STUPID TIME LOOP THEORY IS, IT HAS NO RELATION TO THE REST OF THIS COMMENT) Strictly for narrative reasons I’ve always liked the idea of Kris being the Knight (and I’m not going to sit here and get into a debate about why, so please don’t send me several paragraphs about why you think it’s some obscure separate option like Papyrus or Father Alvin when their current narrative significance is less than that of BERDLY), and if it IS the case, then it would bring up the question of WHY. My idea related back to the opening line, “nobody can choose who they are in this world” and “your choices don’t matter”. But, what if we weren’t IN “this” world? Who is “you” referring to when they “your choices don’t matter”? Us and Kris are different people, after all. As far as I see it, the dark worlds are being created because they give characters the ability to change their fate, sort of like a writer writing themselves a new story, but instead it’s the knight creating a world of fiction to get lost in, going on a grand adventure designed SPECIFICALLY to fix relationships with others and improve their quality of life. After all, the first chapter’s fountain created an adventure about finding friendship in people you see as your enemy, and the result was that Susie stopped being a bully, and instead became a friend. The second fountain? All about standing up to a motherly figure and proving that pure intelligence is not the way to win people over. Queen fit the role of both the caring motherly figure AND the one who valued only intelligence and efficiency, making her relate to the plots of both Noelle AND Berdly, and the culmination? Berdly stopped only caring about being the smart kid, and Noelle became strong enough to stand up to her mom, which will likely become important soon. Kris’ relationship with both of these characters, like before, increased too. And the third chapter we already know is in Kris’ house, ground zero for their relationship with Toriel, Asgore, and Asriel, and will likely explore deeper into the “brokenness” of their home, with the divorce seemingly still pretty fresh and Asriel having been gone for so long, not to mention Kris’ apparent and strange lack of any notable achievements or possessions. But, by the end of it, I’m sure Kris’ relationship with Toriel and their home will be stronger, and if Asgore shows up (which is entirely possible because the cops were called, and Undyne could have asked Asgore to go because he knew them and she was busy, perhaps with rounding up the dogs set loose if you visited the police station, perhaps with something else). Either way, if he shows up or not, Kris’ life will likely see notable improvements in certain relationships. This altogether with the idea of a time loop and/or foresight of the future would suggest that Kris is not content with their life as it would turn out naturally, and is making the fountains as a means to create a NEW world where they can write their own story, and watch the effects cascade into the world above. And just imagine how others would feel if they found out that’s what Kris was doing… if they found out Kris had been secretly manipulating them to get their way. Even if they’re all happier because of it, that would be a shock anyone, and probably not a good one.

I hate the time loop theory dude, it's super cliche and just a boring concept. it's the exact same gripe I have with stuff like the spiderverse where you can apply it to any story ever made in existence and have no problems. toby is better than that and he's definitely going to want to execute the "your choices don't matter" thing better than just everything getting reset at the end. not to mention it would just be a really disappointing ending to the game...

Besides, you do realize that Undertale’s use of the saving and loading system was almost literally just time looping, right? The whole “being with the most determination can reload to last save point at will” thing? And then everyone gets Deja Vu? You also have the ability to “reset” the file at any time to start from the beginning? He’s not above time looping, he just describes it differently.

@@Roland... it’s… exactly what it sounds like? The idea that at the end of Deltarune’s story, the timeline ends and resets back to the beginning, before the game starts? Then it happens again, in a cycle, with characters who are aware of the loop trying to change the events that occur to break it. Like I said to the other person though, the time loop is only one of a few possibilities that can make this idea work.

@@GameJam230 yeah exactly he does it differently in undertale, it isn't like the game loops again after you finish it, saving and loading is just more like time travel in general rather than time looping. the time loop theory just suggests that the game is gonna end with a time loop because 'your choices don't matter' or whatever, no matter how you phrase it it's still a trash ending.
