My latest videos were just dialogue scenes, but this is my first time making a proper cutscene, though it did turn out a LOT longer than I initially intended! Apologies if the timing or some things are a bit off ;v; It took a really long time to make but I'm fairly happy with the result...
I was originally going to post this on February 27th since it marks a year since I made Mike and Host as OCs (originally just as side villains for a goofy Swatchton fic haha), but I know I'd just be so fidgety if I had to wait to post this! Bits of this cutscene have existed in my brain ever since I first created them and I'm so glad to finally be sharing it with people rather than let them sit in my mind indefinitely! :)
I really wanted to make Host sign more, I'm just concerned that their hands won't read as well, but I hope it looks alright! I care about these characters a lot and I hope that people will enjoy them as well! I'm unsure if I'll be making more videos like this, mostly because their involvement in chapter 3 isn't as fleshed out as their backstory and post-ch3, but I suppose it's not completely out of the question either...? :)
The song is Liquid Negrocity, it's originally from Homestuck and also composed by Toby Fox! (Though you might be more familiar with the song "Black" which this one is a draft from, at least according to the wiki!)
Still, it felt appropriate because of how well it fit the vibe I had in mind, and Homestuck was the reason I originally got into Undertale in the first place! Plus with how often UT/DR make HS references, I figure I'd continue the tradition :)
I myself can't compose music to save my life and with how long this was turning out, it was the next best thing

Character interactions here sounds like something you'd see in the official game. Did not expect to hear Liquid Negrocity, but it fits the mood surprisingly well. Overall, this turned out really good!

The AU that predicted that Mike and the TV would be separate characters before the sweepstakes has struck again! I love how just straight up manipulative Mike is. He’s not a inherently evil character, and he doesn’t want to spread the darkness like the Antagonists before him. But he seems to be very ruthless and cunning. The duo is sticking to the Hosts script no matter what, possibly because they don’t want to loose Kris and be abandoned again. Host is the secret boss in this AU, right? Or at minimum they have a connection with Gaster? If so that’s really cool because it gives the main story a major connection to the secret bosses. presumably Mikes ending would change depending on if you do the secret boss or not!

Yesss lol the sweepstakes messed with so many people's AUs and meanwhile I was there like "I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS ALL THIS TIME-" Didn't really rename Host to Tenna because I'm too attached to the name haha (Plus there's already a Tenna in this AU~) But yesss I like Mike a lot, like he's genuinely not evil, but he does enjoy playing it up and taking the villain/mean boss role, he has messed up with Spamton before and needs to be sure that the same won't happen with the Fun Gang :) His approach to things does end up being a bit controlling though it's kind of a play on the fact that he's quite literally immobile without Host And yes, Host is the secret boss and both them and Mike have connections to Gaster! Mike and Host are destined to be separate no matter what ending takes place

@@NE0Nbandit the reason I think Darkners turn to stone is because their fountain has a specific theme and if the darkener doesn't fit the theme, they turn to stone but since Ralsei's fountain doesn't have a theme so darkeners can live there regardless of theme so by becoming the main fountain, Mike's and Host's world would be like Castle town!

It's a very intentional design choice :) Mike is paralyzed so he relies a lot on his face and voice to express himself. While Host is mute so a lot of their expressiveness has to come from their body language 💕 I do want to make more cutscenes! I'm currently brainstorming a new one to introduce a new character from my cast, but I don't have much to show for it just yet hehehe

Compared to other Mike designs, I can definitely say this design is the best Mike design. Also great that you designed Mike as Microphone instead of big head TV, after all *Mike* Comes from *Microphone* (I think)

Nothing wrong with TV Mikes :) a lot of them are wonderfully designed and I'm friends with a lot of creators in the community who have so many different interpretations~ I'm just someone who likes it when my characters have pun names and I was scared of accidentally copying someone's TV design hahaha

i really don't have much to say about this, other than: this SLAPS?? gonna be real, kinda got inspired by this a little for me to write my own deltarune villain introduction scene. I've had my take separate from this, but honestly, it feels amazing to see high quality stuff like this once in a while. Sprites, Dialogue, not much to say except it's something I want to see more of. i may be a nobody in terms of deltarune takes, but seeing what people like you can do just makes me want to keep on goin! I just love them both, the best rendition of Chapter 3's main villains yet. I love the concept of the two of them being separate and distinct characters. (Was going to incorporate this into my own version of Mike as well, but found yours and decided to scrap it to avoid plagiarism accusations.) But anyway, just perfect, I love how you took a Midnight Crew song composed by Toby Fox himself to be their theme, the jazz tone perfectly matches them both, and that's not to mention the sprites and designs, simply impeccable.

Thank you so much 💕 My take on Chapter 3 has a lot of emphasis on duality and divides (with Kris and Asriel etc etc), etc so it made sense that the antagonists would be a duo as well! I'm glad that the Midnight Crew theme is fitting~ I really wanted to have a custom theme but I have zero music skills and nothing captured their vibe as well as Liquid Negrocity 💕 And it's hardly the only Homestuck reference they have hehehehe

OHH MY GO;JD THIS IS EPIC DUDE B;RO THE SIGN LANGUAGE i i think they fingerspelled "TENNA"???? at 5:19 (I think "N" is fingerspelled twice because the 2nd-to-last hand sprite moves around. maybe the dark fountain is for Tenna?? Mike, for some reason, doesn't want to talk about that...) i'm so surprised that you managed to get sign language in pixel art. that's so cool!! i love the hand gestures that the host did at the very beginning too, i found it intimidating while also being a bit charming i can't believe this has existed for so long and i've only seen it now,, really nice work!!

5:00 I'm gonna guess and say the "Divide" Mike's referring too is the Dark World's reaction to Toriel and Asgore's divorce. Asgore must've had stuff he had to remove from the house when he left to live in his flower shop, and in the Dark World it might've been like some terrible disaster like an earthquake or something, with many darkners and structures disappearing as their light world counterparts were removed by Asgore. Other then that this video was incredible, and I can't wait to see more content!!!

WHAT THE HELL!!! /POS The scenarios are so beautiful and really look like they'd be on the official game!!! and the sprites!!!! they're animated in a way where i can easily tell the character's personality! that's so COOL!!!! One can tell a lot of love went into making this, and reading the description made it even clearer to me. The only thing I feel like all these (excellent that they are) fan events do is they just overload on exposition. Toby has always been pretty good about not taking complete control away from you for this long. I guess I get it though, its a lot more work to do more than just a ton of dialogue and one scene.

Yeah I thought about that xD I was unsure having it just be dialogue, but since it's not an actual game but more of a video series, I think I can pass the realism this once :) I originally had an idea of a mini boss fight happening before Ralsei showing up, but that was way beyond my skill level so it just became dialogue instead x)
