I never felt that Hugo wasn’t passionate about the role. He just is a professional. Actors always ask “what is my motivation?” If the director refuses to give any, what can the actor do?
@KXG1123

I agree with what Bay was saying about actors complaining about jobs, but Weaving wasn't really complaining, he was kinda just saying he didn't get into the role. If anything he was just saying what Bay did wrong by not putting Weaving more into the role.
@ZeNyteMunkey
@ZeNyteMunkey Ай бұрын
How could he expect to get into a role if he doesn't have even read the script? Part of franchise movies like transformers that been around longer than the movies should enough inspire the actor that chose to take the role and learn more about it; the directors job is just to tell the actor how or what to do; not seek motivation to bother working, hugo is just pompous and never appreciates popular roles that made him recognizable.

I always thought this whole thing was way overblown. Hugo Weaving really wasn't being insulting or mean about anything, the role just didn't mean much to him. Which I totally understand when you record stuff over Skype for like 2 hours and that's it. I can also understand Bay's side too. I don't really see either side as right or wrong, it just is what it is for better or worse. I love Hugo Weaving's Megatron, its my personal favorite voice for the character and he seems to have really done his best with it despite the circumstances. I just hate when fans complain about it, its always something like "he sucks, he didn't even care about it" or "he hated it" when that really isn't the case.

@@benjamintracey6685 I mean he was approached about the role, otherwise how would he accept the part to begin with, and there surely had to be some sort of breakdown of the story/characters even if it wasn't much. I think the "big shot" thing you mention isn't really an issue, or at least not as big of one as you think it is. An actor doing a voice part doesn't really have to do with Bay being a "bigshot".

@@Talon_Productions no he was not quite properly approached. He just recorded his lines under Bay’s direction by iChat yet was never told much about the character, the franchise or the other characters except for those he simply mentioned by name in his voice recordings. Otherwise he was never told about the role and by “had to be the big shot” as I put it about Bay, basically I am describing him as with a whole “I can do as I like and get away with it because as a director type filmmaker I am the boss around wherever I go and as such can with impunity do whatever I want” type of mentality which as I sought to put it, was always one of Bay’s least admirable qualities. And as a result of that he has not always got along with people.

not on Bays side, i think he really fucked with source material and wasn't nerdy enough to set the 100% solid directioning of the series. HOWEVER... if someone called your project meaningless and weird you'd be offended also. Especially when you pay them.
@tostig549
@tostig549 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t really see this as Hugo Weaving being ungrateful, he’s very honest in that it’s almost like he wanted to be more a part of the actual project but Bay didn’t reach out to him properly so he couldn’t get a feel for the character outside of the lines he was given. Bay is definitely blowing it out of proportion as it’s clear Weaving has respect for the character and would have enjoyed the role had he been able to get more invested in it but from both his own commitments and the fact Bay never sent him a script for him to get invested in, then he couldn’t really get attached to it like his other roles.

I didn't know Hugo Weaving voiced Megatron in English, that's interesting. But to be fair, I usually only watch the Brazilian Portuguese version of movies lol. I can totally understand feeling disconnected from his work in the Bayverse, though. Since Megatron was mostly very superficially handled in those movies, narratively speaking. As were pretty much all the other villains. And Bay didn't even interact with him that much during the production? I mean, I can totally get the feeling of indifference.

I don’t think either are in the wrong. Hugo was just being honest and explaining his experience with the role of Megatron and Michael Bay did slightly take it out of proportion, but Michael Bay definitely had a point about voice actors in general, not about Hugo. Both shared their thoughts about it, Hugo explained his experience and Michael Bay shared his perspective and opinion on it as well as voice actors in general.
