The original long backhoe attachment that this machine was purchased with was later replaced with a short backhoe attachment (seen here) to allow the machine to carry a larger bucket. The backhoe attachment on this machine came off an H255S, which was the first upgrade of the H185S when Demag was part owned by Komatsu (hence why it says Komatsu on the boom). After Komatsu bought Demag out, the H255S was upgraded to the PC3000. Most parts on all three models are interchangeable.

She may be old, but she handles that bucket better than most new ones that I have been around. Great video. Thanks.

Great video. The old girl gets a bucket full every time.

She is old, BUT, even for her age she still holds an average availability in the high 90s and can still put out 20 loads on hour in ideal digging conditions, meeting the company's target production.

That old girl may not be the fastest horse in the stable! But that big bucket sure makes up for speed. Great video.

I don't know about the entire U.S. Pennsylvania has just under one dozen Demag's still in operation (as of 2013;) all on surface coal mines.

Another brilliant vid Justin, the operator looks tiny up in the cab, huge machine. Also noticed it says Komatsu on the boom and Demag on the counterweight, are they the same company, or has this one just been adapted?. Liked.

Just think of the GPM and PSI required to make the boom and stick dig so well. Good action .

It`s got some high frame hours fore sure. Hell, every machine in this video does. But it`s all paid for and its still producing.
@terrellfarms111 жыл бұрын
You know she's big but you don't know how big till you see the bucket over the back of the 777's bed. Three scoops and see ya. How many yards is that bucket?

I've noticed a variety of equipment ages.. How often does a mine have to buy new equipment like a shovel or truck? I'm assuming they come with a certain operating hour life expectancy.
@PAmining11 жыл бұрын
It all comes down to operating expenses and the machine's reliability. The goal is to get the maximum usage out of a machine. Once a machine starts to fail structurally and mechanically resulting in increased downtime, it is time to replace it.

Wonder how many Demag's work in the US ? How many work around your way besides this one ?

Do the open pit coal mines use the big machines mostly for overburden, and smaller equipment for coal?

Hi Pa mining, is this the machine off route 61 around Ashland pa? I passed by this weekend and saw it in the distance through the trees, we drove our jeep over to it and was in awe of its size. i
@PAmining10 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, that's this machine! She is only a 240 ton machine and considered small by mining standards!

Can anyone remind me of the bucket capacity of this machine please?
@PAmining10 жыл бұрын
The H185S is 18.5 cubic yards as a front shovel and 17 cubic yards as a backhoe. This machine is equipped with an 18 cubic yard bucket
@mrbluenun10 жыл бұрын
PAmining Hi, And many thanks for that info. I thought it was 15 yards. Anyway I also had it in my mind it would have taken roughly two scoops to fill a road going truck in the UK, as the back hoe was using four scoops to fill one of the smallest sizes trucks in mining . Thank you mrbluenun
