I can tell from the way Demeter grabs her, that she’s a possessive helicopter parent. She refuses to acknowledge that her daughter is a grown woman and only thinks with the mindset, “she belongs to me”. If she ever knew what Ares was about to do to her……
@DEITYOFTIMEANDINFINITY6080Ай бұрын
Exactly. Demeter is a helicopter parent to the extreme and I don't know why she was even okay with Ares she should've known how he is at least in this interpretation where he's a raging bull ready to lock horns with anyone who sets him off.
@leeammorris1268Ай бұрын
Definitely spot on.👌🏾👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Demeter is like that parent who is constantly by your side all the way into adulthood, never letting you grow or learn anything new. She also can't stand it when her child isn't under her complete control, like in this scene when Persephone was trying to tell her all she'd learned while being in the Underworld and when she said that she'd chosen who she wanted to marry. I mean don't get me wrong, I know that Demeter's intentions are mostly coming from a good place, but the way she goes about it is so messed up and causes more pain than good.

Its worse for Demeter, when she knows Persephone has children and is indifferent about the pain she causes them when she has to leave them; and is still bitter about Persephone being happy she married Hades.

Yea. You'd expect her, of all people, to understand the feeling of being away from your children but nope, she's too entitled to think about that.
@josecuestas7246Ай бұрын
For that reason, i think that Demeter is even worse than Hera, because in defense of the former Queen of Olympus, Hera become a piece of work only because Zeus was constantly cheating her, breaking her heart all the time, turning Hera in a bitter, paranoid and vengeful goddess. Even, during the Season 2, Hera showed a more wiser, merciful and selfless side, implying that she used to has this personality, prior to be cheated by Zeus, showing that Hera was a more considerated and caring goddess in the past. Unlike Demeter, who was an awful goddess since the beginning, to be too much possessive and controller with her daughter Persephone, to the point of forces her some suitors that Persephone didn't want. Adding that while Hera generally limits to harm only who are involved with the cheating of Zeus, Demeter hasn't qualms in put in jeopardize innocent bystanders from her personal issues, only to fulfill her shenanigans; like threat with a permanent winter that would leads to famine to the mortals if Persephone wasn't returned, or unleashes a plague to weakens the gods, disgarding the genocide against the mortals, making Demeter worse than Hera if you analyzes it.

I understand that Demeter just wants to protect her daughter, and considering how Despina (Persephone's sister) came into the world I don't blame her, but she needs to understand that Persephone isn't a weak, naive little girl anymore who needs constant supervision and protection. She's a grown woman capable of making her own choices and falling in love with whomever she chooses. And to be honest, out of all those suitors whom she handpicked herself for her daughter, Hades is more mature, intelligent and honest than all of them combined. I mean, Ares, after having more than a few drinks I'm sure, had just tried to assault her in her own garden. Gods only know what would've happened if Hades hadn't shown up and kicked his *ss when he did. Is it really that hard for her to not have her daughter under her control?? She legit forces her to leave her loving husband and two beautiful children for six months of the year at the end of each winter, tearing apart her family thereby hurting Persephone in the process. I doubt Demeter's even seen her grandchildren, let alone spent time with them.

From all we are shown in the series, there's no way in hell that Demeter would have accepted this match. Demeter was actually selecting the suitors for Persephone and shows nothing but contempt for Hades. Even when they are "allies" she tries to blame her own crimes on Hades in order to drive a wedge between him and Persephone. Persephone eloped for a reason
@andreagrussu677826 күн бұрын
Yes, the eloping at first was a bit too sudden, but Persephone told Demeter fair and square that Hades saved her, that he did not hurt her in any way and that she chose him willingly as a suitor, and yet Demeter still refused to listen. Eating the pomengranade was another reckless move, but I still believe Demeter unintentionally pushed Persephone to do it, or that at least she was part of the reason, because she still treats her like she is a little girl who does not understand what is best for her when Persephone is an adult, a goddess, who knows what she wants
@filipvadas760220 күн бұрын
To be fair, based on how they characterise Demeter here, there's no way in hell she would agree. Hell, even in the myth of Persephone's "kidnapping" every time she leaves Demeter throws a fit and causes Winter. She KNOWS where she is and will eventually come back but still tortures humanity in her most well know myth for it.
@drogo191317 күн бұрын
She tried to tell her before it got to that point, Demeter wouldn’t listen! But then, again, after everything we were shown of the series, I doubt you would’ve listened regardless hell she was selecting her daughter suitors without even asking her, and I doubt she would have bothered to hear that one of them being Aries actually tried to rape her!!! Persephone is now a grown woman who can make her own decisions, Demeter Just refuses to see her as one~~ Hell in the myth, she was raped by Poseidon and had another child Despoina which she abandoned! which frankly on a sidenote worked as a dynamic reference for the tangled series between Cassandra and Rapunzel. Rapunzel is the Sundrop ☀️, Cassandra is the moon 🌙, winter ❄️ and spring 🌸~~ you see where I’m going with this. KZbinr Han Solo even made a video about it.

If I remember my mythology correctly, Persephone was born from Zeus raping Demeter, in fact I think this is not only Zeus's first affair/rape but the very first rape in Greek mythology. Of course Demeter would fear a similar fate befalling her daughter and assuming the worst, especially since Poseidon also raped her soon afterwards leading to the birth of Arion. Her thought process was probably something like, brother 1 & 2 cornered and raped me why would brother 3 be any different except this time he targeted my daughter and imprisoned her in his home. Demeter had ample reason to assume the worst, her mistake was continuing to assume the worst and pushing that narrative no matter what, then proceeding to hold the whole world hostage to force Persephone to be returned to her.

What's interesting is how this is more accurate to the Gods than people tend to believe. Persephone was always portrayed as intelligent (which is why she was the one who was responsible for cursing those who wronged the Underworld). Add in how overbearing Demeter was, Persephone would have known about the pomegranate before eating them, because Demeter would have most likely warned Persephone about what would happen (since she didn't want Persephone to leave her side). Finally is Hades, who wasn't a horrible God, but instead someone who did his job and only once ever showed any signs of doing wrong (kidnapping Persephone), which isn't really kidnapping in ancient Greece since he obtained permission from Zeus, which was the equivalent of marriage back then.

I think part of the reason Demeter is such a helicopter parents is mainly due the fact she had an affair with Zeus. And in a story called Lore Of Olympus, IN THAT story, Zeus was going to make Demeter Goddess of all gods and Goddess. But when Zeus asked Hades what he thought he said Hera would be a much better fit. Demeter was so enraged. But again that’s a different story. But the story goes that Demeter despite Zeus so much that she wants him to have nothing to do with their daughter. In a way, Demeter thinks every man is like Zeus. And to spare Persephone the same pain and humiliation she thinks helicopter her is the best way. Yes, Zeus is a jerk. But not all men are like that. What Demeter SHOULD have done was just teach Persephone to be careful and what to watch out for. Just because Demeter made a mistake doesn’t mean she needs to assume all of man is like that.

Demeter knew little of Hades,she knew Zeus n Poseidon more and how they would disrespect their wives by raping em,punishing em extremely for little to no reason,cheating on them,having bastards kids,etc. She didn't want her daughter being put through the pains and slowly becoming a shell of her old self, so in my opinion i think thats y she wanted Kore near her,to keep an eye on her husband n to keep him on a tight leash, she wouldn't be able to in the underworld.

If only Demeter knew that Hades was nothing like Zeus and Poseidon. Hades was mature and fair. And he was a kind and loving and faithful husband to Persephone. He didn’t treat Persephone like a trophy. He made her his equal in the Underworld

Well even if she's rightfully upset her daughter was taken in the original stories. She's still a b*tch for taking her anger out on the mortal world.

I hate the overbearing mother archetype Demeter gets. Its inaccurate and takes from the actual mythology. the way it acknowledged the REAL truth of daughters being kidnapped, mothers being torn away from their children

If I was Demeter I would've not agreed not for half of year, not for more or less. Let the desolation consume the earth. Judge me all you want but If I was in Demeter's shoes, as god I would've refused to fulfill my duties so the world may feels my pain.

I’m really over this thing everyone’s doing now to rewrite the Hades and Persephone myth as a romance story. It’s so played out at this point and the dude is still her fucking uncle. Taking out the abduction and rape from the story doesn’t make it less creepy.
@TimberlakeTigerGirlАй бұрын
Even so, Demeter is still in the wrong by making Humanity suffer because of what Hades did.
@TheAzerathАй бұрын
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl in the original myths it wasn’t intentional on her part. The season change was because she was so distraught over the fact that her daughter was missing - you know, having been kidnapped and raped by her uncle. Zeus ordered Hades to return Persephone because Demeter was inconsolable… because her child was missing… because, ya know, she had been kidnapped and raped by her uncle.

@@TimberlakeTigerGirl She didn’t intentionally make anyone suffer in the original myths. The seasons changed to eternal winter because she was so distraught about her daughter being missing - you know, because she had been r*ped and kidnapped by her uncle. Zeus had to order Hades to return Persephone because Demeter was inconsolable and the state of the earth was a reflection of her. So, personally, I don’t think it’s wrong to be upset that your child is missing - ya know, having been r*ped and kidnapped by her uncle - but if you do, you’re entitled to that opinion I suppose.

@@TheAzerath I'm not saying she was wrong to be upset. But anyone with a brain would know that she had no right to make millions of people suffer because of her grief. It's made clear in the original stories that she knew that Humanity would suffer in winter and didn't care. It's a pretty common theme in Greek mythology that the gods did whatever they wanted and didn't care about how it affected humans. That's the equivalent of a mother shooting up a random mall or grocery store because her daughter got attacked and was angry about it. You can be upset but don't take it out on others who had nothing to do with it.
@TheAzerath29 күн бұрын
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl it’s not the same at all, actually. The season was supposedly tied to Demeter’s mood. Idk what part of that you’re having trouble comprehending. Unless you know of women who turn into guns when they’re sad, that’s a pretty fucked up comparison and not at all accurate.
