I totally enjoyed watching the firing and seeing the beautiful pieces! Have you tried making the cookies ahead firing them, then sitting your pottery on them in the kiln. I make some of each time I fire. I have them in case the glaze runs down on them I can Dremel it off! Every once in a while I will have a piece that happens to.
@deMibPottery2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Normal cookies do not work in woodfire - especially not if you infuse salt :-)

On the large kiln, can you explain what goes on top, under the fire bricks, to hold them up off the pottery? I have not seen a flat top before, usual some kind of dome. Thank you
@deMibPottery3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure - I did not build the kilns, but I have seen many designs where flat roofs are made by drilling holes in the bricks and have a metal stick through them.

Hi there its nice to see Potters firing with wood - its my dream that im closing by - but I have questions about smoking from front of fireboxes both kilns - is chimney to short ora canals too long - or You have big trees or buildings near by?
@deMibPottery4 жыл бұрын
I am not an expert in kiln construction but as far as I know some smoke will always come out in the front during reduction
@Projekt_Ognik4 жыл бұрын
@@deMibPottery oh I see some little trouble in smal kiln - chimney is too short and roof above big kiln is above top of small kiln. Big kiln have firebox too high above firechamber (pottery chamber) and fire and smoke must go down - antigravity (freeway gas teory) and I see holes in chimney between bricks - its like in car - when You have holes in burning system or in pipe under car - then car burning more fuel..
@deMibPottery4 жыл бұрын
@@Projekt_Ognik It is not my kilns - I just rent the place, but I do know they put a lot of the finest expertise into building them (and the others they have in their huge collection of kilns) and they work really well :-)

Hi sir. Couple of questions. At 17:30s, what is the glaze colour that you applied on the vase which turned out like a milky glossy green? Dose a red glaze burnt off and produced another colour such like this? Lastly, how did you remove the ball clay which you stick at the bottom of the pots? Stilt pins are available in packs online and make your own? Sorry for the long message. :-)
@deMibPottery2 жыл бұрын
That is a celadon glaze Red is always tricky. To get real copper red you have to fire in reduction. The balls under the pots are called "waddings". You need that for high fire, wood fire and salt/soda fire. Normal stilts can't be used.
@xm33642 жыл бұрын
@@deMibPottery This is a new knowledge regarding the fireclay waddings! You works are very lovely and one of the kind. Wonderful!
@Cate74512 жыл бұрын
Yours are good questions the wadding’s don’t stick as it is a special recipe.
@xm33642 жыл бұрын
@@Cate7451 Hmm...Actually, I discovered these waddings have to be grinded and then polished for a smooth base/foot.

After watching - very nice potts - Im interesting what kind of wood do You use? How much in qubic meters do You use? How much was top temperature in big kiln? Greetings
@deMibPottery4 жыл бұрын
I think for this fire it was mostly pine - and some hard wood. I think we may have used a couple of cubic meters
@deMibPottery4 жыл бұрын
Top temperatur was approx 1300 C

If you put a slab of clay all over those loose bricks 21:33 in front it holds the heat in better? Just slab it all with your hand.
