There's actually a good way to avoid lectern traps that I haven't seen any of the hermits do. Just jump onto the lectern, because lecterns aren't affected by gravity. So if it opens up a trapdoor, you're still safe.

You should have taken him up on the 'whatever you charged he was going to double' though - two nice big stacks of diamonds is better than just the one ;)

The fools raging in TFC's comment section on that video was the best part of that trap. Such little minds incapable of wrapping their heads around the concept that someone could choose to embrace the inevitable and laugh gleefully at the cunning of the method used against them while doing so. Well plotted trap Cleo, and you don't have to worry about hunting down X's other treacherous thrall (though you're probably well aware). The bumbler bumbled them into Tango's puzzle box of beauty.

Seeing a few of these drop pit / lava dispenser / obsidian traps, and they're great n' all but there's a way to make them a bit more effective with a 2x3 pit with obsidian walls at the bottom, have your 3 lava dispensers on either side, then add another one below with more lava and one above creating a + shape, add a delay on the top one and put a water bucket in it that way you'll create a nice little obsidian tomb filled with lava that you can't simply fly out of
