My 20.5 is exactly like this one. It has broken in nicely and is glass smooth now. Maintenance is simple, and re-centers perfectly each time with no fuss. The scales are tough, it got knocked off the kitchen counter the other day and skittered across the floor, not a mark on it. It is thin and carries easily. I couldn`t care less if it has a "deep carry" clip or not. The steel in the blade is plenty good enough for my every day needs, if it gets a little dull, I`ll touch it up a little bit. I have knives which cost 4 times as much as this one, and have supposedly better quality steel in their blade, but they don`t cut one bit better. Based on cost per carry, this is going to be the least expensive knife I have. As a retired lineman, I carried an AFCK for about 35 years. Loved that knife, but it has been retired now also.

Bought one last week in OD Green Grivory. I love it. It's the one I've been carrying most often since getting it. Love the size. Love the ergos. Love the blade shape. Love the Shark Lock. Mine's off-center but that's okay. It's not rubbing. I bought an MSI Ram-Lok yesterday. Call me weird but I actually prefer my AD20.5.

@@Rippleshanks I think he's just frustrated he paid a scalper's price for this knife when he could have waited a few weeks and got it from a retailer at retail price. $150 is still overpriced for the AD20.5, but it's more justified than paying $55+ more on eBay. eBay has crazy prices because of eBay's crazy fees, shipping cost, and the need to make a profit on top of that. If he doesn't want to overpay and lose money on a resale, then he should've been more patient, but he's a knife reviewer and has the money to spend on his business expenses.

There was a big restock at many retailers beginning of January 2022. Unlike previous restocks of the AD20.5, they actually had a good amount at most knife retailers. Even the Blade HQ exclusive version (which I think looks like crap with the booger green grivory) is in stock as of this post, in "shark foot" blade. There are many black and orange handle versions at other retailers. As for the knife itself, yeah, not worth the $150 asking price... if you're only looking at the materials. However, it's well-built, very fidget friendly, and solid-feeling. I modded mine with Lynch deep carry clip with Karbadize Fat Carbon scales and matching backspacer. Adds another $150 to the knife's price, but it's worth it to me because you can't even get an actual AD20, let alone for $300. Wish they made the AD20.5 with better steel at $150, like S30V at the bare minimum, preferably S35VN or S45VN. Maybe someday when Demko isn't being a greedy opportunist.

Honestly, I think it has more to do with manufacturing than him being greedy. Aus10a is the best steel that is still able to be stamped in manufacturing. For better steel you have to go the CNC route which significantly raises the price. I don't think he's able to do orders as large as Cold Steel does so the unit price is probably higher. He said that customs and importing fees were pretty bad too. I think the shark lock requires edm which also raises the price. I think the packaging with the zippered case stickers etc adds to the price but doesn't increase value. I would prefer a lower price with cheap packaging. Grivory scales are way cheaper to mass produce than g10. Supposedly, better versions of the 20.5 are in the works. We'll have to wait and see. Really the 20.5 is down to whether you want the shark lock or not.

@@sgsheff Demko makes a lot of excuses that fans of their knives parrot over and over on the internet. The fact of the matter is, they're charging over twice the amount for the materials used in their knives. It's an even bigger ripoff with their AD20S, which is D2 steel, retailing for $275. What's the excuse for that? They make those D2 blades out of their own "custom shop," and charge $200+ more than what D2 knives should go for, and that's on the high end. The masses will still buy their overpriced knives because of the shark lock, the Demko name on the knife, and because of the scarcity of AD20/S/AD20.5, whether its intentional or not. I bought an AD20.5 myself and modded it, but I know I bought an overpriced knife and paid $150 more to make it better.

@@Gambit33 it's important to remember that they're using cpm-d2 not just any random D2 from China or wherever else. Because it's crucible powdered metallurgy it's going to cost more than the average D2 in cheaper knives. I agree with you though, I really wish they were better materials at a more realistic price. It shows what a great deal Cold Steel knives have been. You used to be able to get an xhp or s35vn code 4 for $65 anytime.

@@sgsheff AD20S doesn't say it's CPM-D2. What's etched on the knife says just "D-2." None of the descriptions from retailers say it's CPM-D2 either. If it's CPM-D2, then it's obviously better than regular D2, but it still shouldn't cost $275 retail and way more on the secondary market. Some Cold Steel knives have great value to knife ratio, but they usually have terrible action and are tough to deploy and/or disengage. That's why the AD10 and AD15 weren't as hyped and in demand as the AD20 line is. The action, fidget factor, and ease of deployment / disengagement, on top of being overbuilt tanks, is what made these knives so high in demand and expensive.

@@Gambit33 I wish I could remember where I saw it but I know it's cpm. I think Cold Steel knives have a stigma to them because of the mall ninja aspect to their advertising. I'd be curious to see sales numbers of the ad15 and ad20.5. It's possible that the ad15 has sold more but Cold Steel is able to have more produced so it didn't seem as much in demand. I actually think the 20.5 is more in demand because it's from Demko compared to if it came through Cold Steel. Yes, the strength plus action is what makes the shark lock appealing. The ad15 has a great action and is very fidgety but I don't think a lot of people know how to manipulate it.

I'm not sure what yall are smoking complaining about this knife for $150 it's insane value. Perfect lockup, centered easily, solid lockup, zero blade play, zero rock, fidgety and smooth acoustics and fun for hours. This is way better value than any Spyderco or Benchmade I have ever bought.

The AD20 is so hard to get that it has driven up the market for the AD20.5 to insane heights. Now that the market for the 20.5 has become saturated this week, eBay prices will plummet and retail prices may start to drop. The AD20 is the real deal and I love my 3V custom grind. I can’t wait for my magnacut slim to come in.

I agree $150 is too much for the materials, but I love the one I bought back in April at that price. And the AUS10A is actually decent; performance is supposedly similar to 154CM. Edge retention seems good on mine and it takes a decent edge easily. Would I prefer a shark lock knife with say S35VN and micarta, CF, G10 or titanium handles for under $200? Hell yes. I think the smart move for Demko would be to license the shark lock to a manufacturer like Spyderco for their production knives.

I so wanted to get aftermarket scales but I didn't want to put any more money into already pricey knife (for what you get). Sold it, don't miss it. The sharksfoot with black scales I got from GP Knives had QC issues. The finger tab on the lock is sharp as hell on the edge and corners. I could deal with this but it also has slight rock lock with a very audible click from inside the locking mechanism. Not good and I don't trust it. I'm sending it back and giving it one more try through White Mountain, which I prefer working with Justin anyway.

So I got a $35 penguin and I’ve been happy with it for about three weeks now. That’s crazy. It is nice to flip though . Very smooth washers with a very good detent . It was stiff at first I kept the pivot tight and it broken so good. So now I’m a QSP fan but I bought this fucking Demco thing the other day. Hopefully I like it. The only person talking about heat treat issues is Neeves. No other reviewer or user has said this knife has problems with sharpening or heat treat, only him. Stassa23 even abused it for his review video and it did fine after getting abused in his testing. Stassa also said on his December 13, 2021 video that he has no issues with sharpening the AD20.5. You can watch for yourself.

I really hate the odd/weird pocket clip on the Demko Ad 20.5!!! Why does there need to be a giant lanyard hole in the middle of the base of the pocket clip and why? Also, the two diagonal screw hole pattern of the pocket clip is weird and therefore makes it difficult to make aftermarket pocket clips. I know that Lynch Northwest makes a deep carry pocket for the Demko AD 20.5 but that aftermarket pocket clip is way too deep carry and annoying for my liking!!!! The Lynch Northwest AD 20.5 deep carry pocket clip actually has the top of the loop of the pocket clip higher than the actual end of the scales of the AD 20.5 so the AD 20.5 ends up being extremely deep carry and therefore the end of the handle rests below the seem of your pants pocket. The Lynch Northwest deep carry pocket clip for the Demko AD 20.5 also doesn't have a flat plateau at its tip, which causes a noticeable and annoying hot spot!!! I also never liked how skinny and thin Lynch Northwest makes their pocket clips, and how the tip of their pocket clips is always a harsh checkmark.

It's awful because is too extreme deep carry and the tip of it doesn't have a flat plateau so the tip of the clip is an annoying hot spot!!!

I guess I’m luckier than I thought. I managed to get both the 20.5 and the 20S at retail. Actually, I got the 20.5 at $5.00 over retail, and they threw in a Lynch deep-carry clip, and swapped it out to my 20S, and it fit perfectly! Great video, all the same. I realize my experience is probably an outlier, and I’m very fortunate. I just know that I love both of them, and understand the frustrations of people who get them on the secondary market. But, I have materially “inferior” knives that command a significantly bigger price tag.

Definitely wait apparently the 20.5 has heat treat issues. I just got one and Neeves knives said in a live stream that he has handled 5 and they all were soft steel. A guy who sharpens for folks commented that the three he sharpened were not good.

I haven't heard anyone other than Neeves having issues with sharpening this knife or saying the steel isn't heat treated properly. Dozens of reviewers on KZbin and hundreds of owners on forums haven't mentioned anything negative other than this knife being overpriced.
