@EDCandLaceАй бұрын
Mediocre at best to some, excellent to others. While it's not my taste in design language it's still a perfectly serviceable design that lots of people love and got good reason. It's a solid design, it's of quality manufacturing of said product line and it's always nice to support small companies and get a good product at a good value. Like I said, not my taste in design language and geometry but Banters has done it right quality and value and supporting good people. So while I knew 100% the landers wouldn't get carried by me I still bought one just to support a small Business that's owned/ran by people I like.

I have waited YEARS for this and I am ecstatic to see it finally happen! You two are literally the people who inspire, educate, mentor and motivate me to keep learning (about knives, entrepreneurship, life). I saw teasers in your email and on IG, and set aside time this morning just to watch this. I kept pausing the video every few minutes to let the wisdom of such prolific people in conversation sink into my brain. 2:29... Ben, you ninja! I didn't even see the Banter in your hand and went "WHOA? Where did that come from?!" Sleigh of hand magician! 5:30... bleary-eyed, shirtless and with a baby in your arms... this sounds like the ending of a hero movie. DCA stands up to greet the nurse, a nessmuk dangling from his waist, his slightly larger than average hands act like a cradle for the baby. He acknowledges everyone in the room by saying, "Hey everyone, DCA here, coming to you from the hospital room and it's our favorite time of the week - coolest new exclusive baby..." 6:24... Ben, you're a poet! "Knives crept into this really intimate moment with your family." What a great insight! Whatever your passion may be, it is all-encompassing. 10:55... "Conflict of interest" is fascinating. I believe that innovation within any industry requires people who are passionate, attuned to the moment, and have a deep understanding the field they are in. That wealth of knowledge and experience stirs the mind and soul. There are legal considerations, but that should not be used to stifle creativity or impose restrictions. Love DCA's experience and perspective on this! 14:19... "You have to find a way to keep your passion going in the day job stuff." "Find a way to keep yourself invested." *applause* 17:00... Ben, what's your "Fixed Blade Era" playlist? 17:50... "We're all inspired by the world we're around." Love this whole conversation about how sales data, customer interactions and being around the industry becomes the catalyst for your own tinkering and ideas! 19:30... Defend your thesis! Love it! 21:09... Pocket Tango + Yipper, it's great how you both had similar ideas and execution but from such different perspectives. Thanks for dissecting the methodologies. 27:10... Great question about what makes a brand stick around! Communication and consistency is critical. The discussion on this was so informative. 31:00... It's funny how this is relevant to my life. Your work at BladeHQ and the way you spoke about the Elementum made me purchase one, and I fell in love with it. Back then, I also discovered DCA, and one of my greatest hopes was to see you two in conversation. But how can that happen when BladeHQ + Knifecenter are competitors? That conflict of interest comes into play, and so I couldn't imagine how you two would be able to have a conversation together for us to see in public. But now this video exists because of where your journeys brought you. And me, I'm over here cheering and celebrating because it's probably the greatest moment in all of KZbin. 33:20... "It's part of my history but that history had to diverge. Which is good. It's healthy." Such wisdom. What's next? Here are some ideas! - We need a crossover or collaboration BPxDCA, KnafSmith? NordAF?! How about a Nessmuk Lander? :) - Ben you should totally co-host an episode of KnifeFAQ! Or do a challenge: Ben & Austin vs. DCA & Seth?! Ben and Seth, DCA and Austin. Get crazy with it. Forgive how much I'm geeking out on this episode but there is truly is so much here to learn from, and it's such a celebration to get the east-coast and west-coast knife-industry hosts together! This video needs an award!

Ben - thanks heaps for all the work you do to make the community a fun, generous, and welcoming place. You're such a blessing bro, always have been. David - I didn't realize that Nordsmith knives was a thing (I had only seen you on knifecenter) and I have been wishing literally for over 5 years that someone would make a capable food AND fire prep camp knife (and I've been dreaming and drawing up my own designs in my home office, lol). You nailed it with the Canteen, it's a phenomenal piece of design work (and in AEB-L! Which is exactly what I always thought of as the ideal steel for that purpose). Also, I actually think it's cool that in the hospital story you were doing skin-to-skin with your baby - it's awesome to have dads around who care about baby's needs and health from the get-go. Well done. Thanks guys!

I happened to be in Salt Lake City over the weekend, and actually had to go to Syracuse. Thought Knafs was close by but didn't realize it was literally 5 minutes from where I was. Managed to stop by the store on Monday and get my first Knafs (Lander 3, blue/satin blade - I really wanted to like the black, but I guess I am more a "traditionalist" - I had to get the sample one since it has been out of stock forever). Got the bit driver too, already used to swap the pocket clip, and I love how it spin! And went home with a bunch of extra goodies. Thanks!!!!! Most of all I got to "try out" some of the other knives (very dangerous, because I love them all and I am afraid of come over again :) One question: why nobody does a small button lock (lander 3 or maximal type) that is a flipper ? I think there are a few bigger knives, but nothing under 3". I am not a super big fan of thumb stud, but it seems pretty much any button lock use thumb stud.

Great seeing these two behind the same desk. Just one counterpoint about the pocket fixed blade sheath: the clip is an option, but it certainly does not need to be firmly fixed to the pocket. When the primary use is OTHER than gas station quick draw defensive carry, it’s a little bit slower but just as effective to take the knife and sheath out of your pocket and use the knife. No attachment necessary. Sometimes you don’t want a fixed blade handle sticking out of your pocket, it avoids snagging, and it’s safer than resheathing into your pocket, especially if the sheath is deeper carry. It’s simply a design choice and personal preference. I carry a small fixed blade in a slip inside my pocket quite often, and it’s all good.
