Dad got one of these when he was deployed to Egypt in 1986. I bought one when I was deployed to Iraq in 2006. I still have both of them! I was in civil engineering and wired up whole buildings using that knife.

The tang stamp on your Western knife is the type Western used from '61-'77. From '77 onwards they added a letter A,B,C etc each year. Coleman bought them in '84 & the tang stamp said "Coleman Western" from '84-90, then Camillus bought Western in '92. (I still have one with the same Western markings as yours that I have had since '78).

I always liked the victorinox tinker since I was young. Till the other day blew me away my mom said heres an early birthday gift. I opened it and it was a victorinox poineer x with the scissors ive already used them and dont know how I did without before. But ya, I too love the old time milk pocket knife and like your vietnam era knife really well. Hey man, stay safe, cheers.😊

I just picked up one of these; it's a 1961 model manufactured by Imperial Knives. Super cool!

Hey Mike, enjoyed your video! I've been collecting these for years. Just wanted to let you know that Camillus tang stamp has been on these since 1957. Thanks again, Bob.

I remember this type can opener as a kid. I have not seen one of these for some time. A good piece of kit.

In regards to your Western USMC. That knife was actually made by Camillus. Camillus bought the Western name and tooling in the 1990's. It was never a government issued knife but sold to the general public. The blade is "hollow ground" and was ground on a robotic type grinder which was cheaper to grind as opposed to the flat ground blades that were done on a different type grinding machine. Other than the stamp, the knife has the same government specs as the official government knives.

I have heard this before. The Western Contract was in 1986 I still have mine it came from my Unit Supply Cage still in Gov. Wrap. handle marked U.S. only. The ones that are handle marked USMC, NAVY, ARMY & Air Force were all made for commercial sales no matter the maker.

I picked one up - They're not 1-to-1 copies, they're slightly larger in all ways but seem made well enough with good finishing all over

If the handle is marked U.S. only it is from the 1986 Military Contract. if your handle is marked anything else it was made for the collector market.
