9 times out of 10 people will buy a "no shit" lock like this then use a crappy mild steel hasp or chain that you could almost bite through! Waste of money if you don`t think the whole deal through!

To dismantle it you need to unscrew a pin that goes through the slotted cap, via the little hole on the side.

Its made to be opened with back of abloy key ... but its hold on place with an screw from the side . First you need to open the lock and get the shackle up and there is a small hole on side to get tool in to open that screw and then you can screw the top off and get cylinder out.

It used to be ABLOY as in AktieBolag Lukko OsakeYhtiö and before that it was called Ab Låsfabriken Lukkotehdas Oy. Ab and oy are equivalent of a limited company (Ltd or LLC) ab is Swedish and oy is Finnish and lukko means lock and låsfabriken lukkotehdas both mean lock factory.

Ive seen these locks on ebay really cheap. I wondered how they can sell a £200 lock for £50. Some people say that its the going rate for them on ebay. However, I have looked closely at the photos and if you look on the abloy website, the writing and numbers on the locks seem to be quite heavily engraved into the lock. The ones on ebay seem to be barely scratched into the surface, suggesting they may not be genuine Abloy locks. Can anyone confirm this observation?

wouldn't do it. That's the price i pay for a keychain sized 321. The engraving is not barely scratched like the ones that appear to be from china. Looks like the engraving on mine is about 0.5mm to 1.25mm deep with rounded corners. Keep in mind the 321's body is brass instead of hardened steel like the 362 is. Also a thing you might look for is (on the 321 model at least) that it has horizontal milling marks on the body and the vertical cut sloth that runs over the body has more of a mirror polish. The keys have a serial number on them that are stamped as little dots. Hope this helped you out.

also the real 362 has BORON on the shackle in closed position that falls behind the only missing "shoulder" unlike most i see for around 50 on ebay. Also they are sold as "stainless" padlocks on ebay. Stainless is not hardened steel like a true 362.
@FoodOnCrack

edit: the engraving on the 321is definitely different from a genuine 362, do not compare those 2.

@@FoodOnCrack I know this post is 3 years old sorry but I had to reply. Abloy stopped stamping "BORON" on the shackles several years ago. I know someone who works there and they confirmed it for me. Its only old stock that are now still stamped. I have a PL362 with no stamp on the shackle and it is still a Boron Carbide shackle. Also, Abloy now create much finer etched lettering on their padlocks with their improved laser cutters. Also you may find a code on the top right shoulder, this is the date code of production, from A - L inclusive.👍💨😄 Abloy do make stainless padlocks the PL330, PL321 and PL320 (with brass interiors) please don't get hardened confused with these variants. The PL362 is of course case hardened armour steel-bodied and case hardened Boron Carbide shackle...with or without the stamp! Only an angle grinder is still the main worry! Maybe one day Abloy will defeat these too! For example, Lonsdaleite is a crystalline material that is 58% harder than diamond and the atomic structure is being looked into as a formulated polymer-alloy...but sshhh I didn't tell you this! 😄💨👍💨✨👀💨💯💨😎

For smaller sub 16mm chains, through hardening may be the only way to make them even remotely useful, but with larger chains, you have the luxury of more steel to play with, so the maker can apply a case hardening to prevent saw attacks and retain a ductile core to absorb the shock from hammer and freeze spray attacks. I've cropped more chains than I care to recall, mostly in front of police, TV crews, journalists or trading standards.
@CaptainCropper
@CaptainCropper 13 жыл бұрын
@cpovey1,core hardened chain is brittle, you crop one side and the other side fractures because of the distortion caused. his is great if you're stealing a bike because you don't have to flip the chain and crop the other side. If you don't feel like cropping, you can whack a through hardened chain with a large hammer and it will break. The through 13mm Squire MC4 "security" chain took me 2 seconds to crop in front of a UK TV crew.

Probably should report back. Got my PL362. Wow it's a d.. nice lock. No real use for it but wth I like it! :D I was right about the side hole. When unlocked you can use an allen wrench to remove the screw. When screw is removed you can unscrew the top plate and from there disassembly should be straight forward. Havn't had taken mine apart all the way as it's greased and didn't want to clean and relube at that time.

Can't wait till I get my PL362. Just ordered one as I spotted a good deal. Looking forward to that beast. Not that I has any use for it - yet at least - just have a fetish for padlocks and it'll make a good conversation piece if used as decoration (some people have porcelain figures - I have technical gizmoes of all sorts). Not the choice of padlock for a chastity belt if you have habit of throwing away the keys :D

Btw. You should be able to remove the cylinder. Take a look at the side hole. In there you'll find a screw which prevents the top cover plate to be removed. Of course that screw can only be removed when unlocked. Search on google for "factory cutaway abloy pl362" and see first hit to get an idea :)

@ry4n0007, there isn't a 12mm chain on the planet that will break decent bolt cutters. You need 16mm of CASE HARDENED steel chain to start getting into that territory.

First, I have no idea what you mean by cropping. Cropping in the visual arts means to show only part of an image. I have no idea how it applies to chain. Second, I have a nice hunk of 14mm Abus core hardened chain that I have banged on, sawed, and used bolt cutters on, and it shows no damage. It is also resistant to cryo attacks down to around -40 •F, os claims the manufacturer (I have not tried this).

... upside down or pull out of the brass core. Be careful if you try this with a 362 as it's the most difficult to put back together even by experts!!! It is good to know how to do this when the shackle needs removing or padlock needs servicing or dirt cleaned out or to switch cores or disks between abloy padlocks of the same type. Abloy classic versions are the lowest security and can be upgraded to abloy profile by using same locking brass core and replacing classic disks with abloy profil
@adrn25m
@adrn25m 13 жыл бұрын
All currently made abloy padlocks use a 2.5 mm allen key grub screw in the side hole of the padlock and this screw locks the core retaining plate in place and stops it turning so don't even try turning till this is removed. Old abloy padlocks use a 2mm Allen key. Once this plate is screwed off you will see lots of loose locking disks for the key and spacer disks between each locking disk, all held loosely in an open ended brass cylinder and are very easy to fall out or get mixed up or upsid

Hi Jimster, I live in Chicago and soon will be storing my 3 bedroom apartment belongings. I'll be gone for 16 months and I'd like to get the best padlock possible to keep lock pickers, lock cutting, etc. from breaking in. I will be storing at an Extra Space storage company - typical lock inserts, which unfortunately I am unsure of the thickest size it takes, maybe you know? Can you please share your expertise, which two padlocks should I get? THANK YOU.

As stated before on this video, Almax series 3 or series 4 chains are the best option to prevent theft with 48 inch bolt cutters and are 16mm case hardened chain for series 3 and 19mm chain for series 4 chains. Made in United Kingdom and is only this company and 1 other chain company in world that makes totally hand bolt cutter proof chains. Search Almax on KZbin.

Abloy classic versions are the lowest security and can be upgraded to Abloy profile by using same locking brass core and replacing classic disks with Abloy profile disks without needing to change the whole core to a newer version that takes newer version disks like exec or protec.

@vladmir11111 Good luck. Its got a 16mm case hardened shackle. It would likely break the croppers! The shackle is similar to the Almax security chain which is also 16mm and case hardened. They tried to crop it and broke the croppers.
@adrn25m

@cpovey1 chain cropping is cutting through the chain with bolt cutters (or bolt croppers as they are often known), either manual or hydraulic, as cropping is also refered to as shortening, i presume this is what captain cropper is talking about.

If you choose classic or profile or the other older lock cores, it doesn't provide disk blocking technology like Exec and Protec have. (2 steel bars locking the disks together to prevent individual disk manipulation)

To remove the cylinder, you need to use a hex-wrench to remove the retaining screw. This is done through the tiny hole in the side of the body while the shackle is open. This will allow you to unscrew the top steel plug and remove the actuator, ball bearings, and cylinder mechanism.

try a smaller abloy.. they are all hard to crop. even the smallest one. especially if the lock isnt laying on the ground. As far as a chain goes....if your super pissed off, go with an Almax III 0.7m length and ALWAYS secure it to a pole or some street hardware. YOU WILL BE FINE

Forget case hardened chain-it's what everyone says to use, and they are wrong. Case hardening is a surface treatment only. True high security chain is called CORE hardened chain-hardened all the way through. It is expensive and hard to find, but it can only be cut with power tools like rotary saws with diamond blades. I have actually seen bolt cutters ruined on core hardened chain. Look for Abus brand. Add a matching padlock high security padlock and you should be OK.

cpovey1 Actually Pewag is case hardened and the 12mm has yet to be cut with bolt cutters. Hasn't happened one time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4TRhGeQoLl6i7s - It's not the only time he tried it either. He even tried it with cranking equipment that generates way more force than humanly possible (without the equipment) and it still didn't cut. Hydraulic cutters failed also.

@quabillion 1/2 and 1/2 true. The Abloy classic can be, but this is the Abloy Protec. Which if you turn one wheel (11 total), one of the 6 wheel teeth will catch on 1 of two sliding bars at the end of the bar making it angle jamming up the other 10 wheels. The only way to undo this is to turn that same wheel exactly back to where it was to make the bar vertical again.

While there is a hole on some, not all of these, to allow them to be re-keyed. The screw your refer is only accessible if the padlock is unlocked and the shackle is lifted. If you can do that then you don't need to unscrew anything as the lock is already open. And yes it is a nice lock!

The only question I have is that there seems to be a relatively small amount of space between the locking bar and the bottom of the lock.
