Thank you Sue!

I was expecting this to be a long draw video, as this is often the simplest way to go get to doing long draw.

Liz Kimber Yes, it's really common to teach long draw that way. I was taught that way but I've found with my students they often get discombobulated with spinning from the fold and trying to work long draw. They end up with a mess in their hands. I've found that short backwards is a good way, which we will get to in the next couple of months! ☺️

Its kinda weird, Rachel Smith i never tried spinning from the folder for a short backwards draw, but I guess some of that is despite being right handed I spin apparently left handed. So, for that sense with my fibre in my left hand it seems quite capable of hanging onto the fibre as I need it to. I was taught long draw by Pam Austin from the spinning school who uses a hold the fibre in the hand method, and long draw finally clicked, but I never could really make a practical use of it till I tried an in the fold method, now Im racing away.. I could see in your video the fibre slipping and pulling away from your finger, and I can really see that would hamper a more fluid spinning technique

I end up with a bunch of short fibres either side of my finger. What am I doing wrong? None of the videos address this at all.

Great question, Chantal. The short fibres you're left with are just shorter than the overall prep -- there are longer, medium and short fibres in all prep. I usually just realign them in my hand and add them into the next bit of fibre I am spinning.

@@RachelSmith thanks :). I just keep ending up with a whole heap of them no matter how I hold it.
