As South Africa reflects on 30 years of democracy, it's also faced with the reality that the country hasn't rid itself of the scourge of political violence.
Before the general elections in May this year, a report by the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime found that there were 10 political killings in the first four months of this year, almost a killing very two weeks.
Political analysts raised concern that this pointed to an increase in political violence in the province.
KwaZulu-Natal has experienced the majority of the attacks - 158 of 280 recorded cases between 2015 and 2024.
Interventions by government, include a commission of inquiry to find the root causes of political killings, and the setting up of a task team to investigate and convict those responsible
