An Election We Could Not Sit Out: How Indigenous Voters Helped Defeat Trump & Elect Biden

Native American voters saw a massive increase in turnout this year and helped deliver key swing states for Joe Biden, but Indigenous peoples and the role they played in defeating Donald Trump have been largely ignored in mainstream media analyses. We speak with Allie Young, a citizen of the Navajo Nation and founder of Protect the Sacred, who organized a horseback trail ride to the polls. She says it was important to her to motivate Indigenous youth to turn out. “I was hearing on the ground that they weren’t feeling very motivated to participate in this election,” she says. “I wanted to communicate to them that this is an election that we just cannot sit out.”

@heidihol STOP! you know NOTHING about Indigenous culture or way of life. Just a snippet of airtime on these progressive outlets pulled on your emotions now all of a sudden you point fingers toward others. Indigenous have been given land but so much could be done with it ...they choose to just judge&blame. So many things have happened to every ethnicity-culture not just Indigenous! The Indigenous folk need to know forgiveness because right after that comes healing but they choose to live in the past! I disagree also because Indigenous fought one another ,to this day not all Indigenous Americans/ First Nation get along. So much you dont know.... but what you should know is EVERYBODY on Earth isn't an angel... nope no one!

@Ladybug Laff. Young girl, there are no significant anatomical differences between human people groups that would warrant classifying group A in one species & group B in another. You DO comprehend that Charles Darwin FLUNKED OUT of medical college - right? When you read Darwin's actual writings... even HE acknowledged that there were holes & missing pieces in his classification system & "evolution" hypothesis.

This topic of "race" has historically been an endeavor of euro-albino pseudo-scholars rambling in their effort to create a classification system that placed euro-albino human mutants at the top of said classification scheme. Furthermore... They couldn't even agree on the number of so-called "human races." In "The Descent of Man," Darwin noted the great difficulty naturalists had in trying to decide how many "races" there actually were: "Man has been studied more carefully than any other animal, and yet there is the greatest possible diversity amongst capable judges whether he should be classed as a single species or race, or as two (Virey), as three (Jacquinot), as four (Kant), five (Blumenbach), six (Buffon), seven (Hunter), eight (Agassiz), eleven (Pickering), fifteen (Bory St. Vincent), sixteen (Desmoulins), twenty-two (Morton), sixty (Crawfurd), or as sixty-three, according to Burke. This diversity of judgment does not prove that the races ought not to be ranked as species, but it shews that they graduate into each other, and that it is hardly possible to discover clear distinctive characters between them." Posted Th. 11/19/2020.
