And it wasn't necessarily zero effect on the evolution of public political understanding anyway, even though the Iraq invasion at the time still took place obviously. Things aren't always as simple as one individual concrete action to one immediate direct concrete policy result. Another reason why it's better to have tried.

AMEN! And, Cara, if you see this - in Walmart right now, there are what I suppose would be called 'action figures', little statuettes of the US Women's Soccer team players. Not rocket-boob-ed Barbies, but women who are # ONE; no loses, the absolute creme de la creme - yet who are making a fraction what the men* of the sport make - and *they aren't top.

And you have to wonder if its by design... brazenly lying then saying "so what?" to the public. We have yet another election coming up where the masses have accepted the idea that they must either vote for a morally bankrupt moron or a mental vegetable. Neither of these men would've gotten anywhere near a presidential ticket 40 yrs ago. I'd imagine that some very powerful people are laughing at the masses with the idea that we don't deserve true democracy, as we are so easily manipulated and distracted.

Thank you Kartharine. I still haven't found courage to watch the movie. No idea why I have tears just watching this though. Perhaps because of all the waste of life. Just to imagine all the children who became orphans or died, let alone adults. And then ongoing horror of Afghanistan. And for what? How ordinary criminals face life sentences and these people who are responsible for such massacre spend remaining life in mansions. Shame on us for letting this happen.

Yes, it is deeply admirable what Katharine Gun did in exposing the coercion on the UN delegates to support a UN Resolution sanctioning the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. We all lived through that insane run-up to that illegal, immoral war that wreaked havoc on the Cradle Of Western Civilization. I saw the film OFFICIAL SECRETS and I highly recommend that others see it for the honesty of its portrayal - and the poignance of what was at stake in terms of the future devastation and mass death and mass fleeing of refugees that has unsettled Europe. I can't help but feel that it was the beginning of the end of US Power and dominance in the world...
