DemocracyNow.org - Former CIA agent John Kiriakou speaks out just days after he was sentenced to 30 months in prison, becoming the first CIA official to face jail time for any reason relating to the U.S. torture program. Under a plea deal, Kiriakou admitted to a single count of violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act by revealing the identity of a covert officer to a freelance reporter, who did not publish it. Supporters say Kiriakou is being unfairly targeted for having been the first CIA official to publicly confirm and detail the Bush administration's use of waterboarding. Kiriakou joins to discuss his story from Washington, D.C., along with his attorney, Jesselyn Radack, director of National Security and Human Rights at the Government Accountability Project. "This was not a case about leaking, it was a case about torture. I believe I am going to prison because I blew the whistle on torture," Kiriakou says. "My oath was to the Constitution. ... And to me, torture is unconstitutional."

The torturers should be in jail, not him. They do take an oath to uphold the constitution. So, why aren't they doing that. Who are they taking an oath to? Beelzebub?

Torture is wrong altogether doesn't matter what side does it matter what you're trying to gain or establish torture is flat out inhumane and you will have to answer to what you've done in this life at some point so good luck with that! That being said the torture tactics the other side uses are much more atrocious than waterboarding not justifying any form of torture but I don't have much sympathy to anyone that wants to harm innocent people for their ideology!!!

He made a mistake - he shouldn´t "blow the whistle"! He should categorically sue them in the CIA for torture, in the highest Court there is, including International Court; plus in the Committee of Hague. If this does not work, there is no Justice in the world! Because torture is cruel and inhumane and should be illegal no matter who does it...!

First of all when i said "you voted for them" i didnt mean u personally. I know about the fascist corporations-state democracy u have there and their influence in media and politics. You might not see the importance of Occupy, but thats the way we in Latin America managed to start changing public discourse, by social movements open to everybody with respect to each other. Its a cultural change that is needed and thats a first and most important step towards the kind of results u want to achieve

Well... you voted for them. The ones responsible for this were elected by the american people. Athough of course, I can understand your point. I dont accuse any american im in front of, but I also think that u have to take responsibility for the state of your democracy. Protest like Occupy is doing, engage.

Well the issue is America is not a democracy. It is a constitutional representative republic. Not to mention the fact there is over welling evidence of voter fraud.

My mother went to High School with Mr. Kiriakou and said he was always a smart guy. I replied, "If he was damned smart, he would've recognized that his actions would have no consequences except to himself and his family." Personally, if were him, I would've gone the other way and been quiet. See, I believe to battle monsters you must become one. If al-Qaeda is a monster and it is a monster of our own creation, then we mustn't pussyfoot like Dr. Frankenstein, we must be ruthless and we must be smart. I've seen plenty of the former, none of the latter.
