I think the indigenous people have so much to offer our society today. Their basic beliefs are so wise and provide me with hope. I"m watching close and appreciate Democracy Now for their intelligent reporting.. Very important for our survival.,

Uh, guys. swearing isn't helping anything and neither is half truths. The Indians did live without technology but it wasn't exactly "in harmony with nature" either. anyone read Lewis and Clark's 1805 account of how they lived? Starting with hurding hundreds of buffalo off the cliffs just so they could butcher only a few of them? That's not exactly conservative. The largest problem here is everyone uses oil and it's North Dakota's second largest economy. So getting it to market the most efficient, cheapest, and perhaps safest is in the best interest for the entire state. Including the natives who produce oil. About 30% of all oil in ND comes from native owned wells. That's why many of them are not against DAPL.

Berg, only in an ideal world. And oil will always be needed. If not for lubrication it'll be needed for energy. Solar and wind are just not efficient for high energy industries from manufacturing to construction. Even the concrete Interstate needed oil to produce the cement and re-bar. I totally disagree with the statement about dumping garbage where the underprivileged live. The DAPL also crosses the Missouri Rive upstream of the Williston bason's water supply which serves 70,000 people. I don't see any protesters there. If you had bothered to read to 1200 page Environmental Assessment you would know the current route was selected because not only is it an existing utility corridor, it has 33 LESS water crossings, is 10.6 miles SHORTER, and has NO historical impact. You'd also ready that the corps of engineers met with over 50 tribes during 300+ meetings. Why do you think Ft. Berthold isn't bitching about it. And 30% of the oil coming out of North Dakota is produced by native American owned wells.

I am now in my 70's. Due to health and finances there is little I can do to support indigenous efforts. What I can do is: talk to family and friends, contact politicians, support with finances as I am able, and pray on a daily basis. I can also give thanks for the integrity, character, determination, long suffering, spirituality, and love which these people have demonstrated in their peaceful actions. As I witness these fantastic brothers and sisters there is a constant sense of pride and hope which is generated in me by their example. Likewise, there is a deep sense of shame generated by government and corporate power and greed as it has been directed toward them. May the creator of all be with you and bless you all.

I am so thankful for this segment, for your organization taking the time to allow the message at the center of this movement to be communicated. So many have gotten caught up in the aspects which have been appalling or violent or frightening. It is a welcome change to hear about the beauty residing in the heart of this resistance. I was watching Amy's face during the interview and, at least to me, her expressions convey the importance, the genuine desire to understand, and the admiration I wish was present more often in our communications with one another.

This is a good example of young adult warriors who have more hard miles on them- activists for change- than many elders. Wise elders are not just found in older bodies. The arrow has 3 parts. Tip (youth), shaft (middle years) and elders (feathers guiding the arrow). i take guidance, inspiration and action from this youth. thank you for being our female chief- our leader by example- from a 50 year old punk-rock warrior (eh, white guy) in Florida. thank YOU !!
