Israeli human rights group B’Tselem reported “Since 1967 , Thousands of homes of Palestinians were demolished by Israel. This is part of war crime: The Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits the occupying state from destroying the property of civilians in occupied territory, ” Homes were usually demolished at night without residents being given any advance warning. The homes destroyed by security forces belonged to Palestinians who were not suspected of any involvement in causing harm to Israeli civilians or security forces. They were given no opportunity to plead their case before any instance and received no compensation for the damage they sustained. This policy of collective punishment inflicted lasting harm on thousands of people. This policy constitutes collective punishment, which is prohibited and violates binding provisions of international law.

“I’m still using the same words to describe what I’m seeing and to express what I’m feeling that I was using years ago and have used many times since; but things have just kept getting worse. How can I keep using the same words? It’s as if the words have lost their meaning.” ~ Mosab Abu Toha Over the past year, there have been many people who have found themselves at a loss for words to express the horrors that they’ve witnessed happening in Gaza; and they have become intimately acquainted with what Mr Toha has been enduring for so long. If the world is going to just stand by and watch it happen, then let the world go away.

I am astounded by the amount of damage a human being can take from the world and still be able to stay alive despite it all. The ongoing trauma year after year watching this show of destruction is compounded by living in a country where people are oblivious to the reality that Palestinians in exile must live with day after day. It is a terribly cruel kind of gaslighting on every level; mental, emotional, and biological even. Daily updates from one’s home with the list of names of people known personally, going to bed each night not knowing who will appear on the list upon waking, having close friends and family out of contact and not being able to reach out to hear their voices, knowing their personal struggles and being unable to help, and then going through a day surrounded by people who are not living in this state of constant fear and stress because the powers that be are controlling the message that it’s business as usual. It’s got to be a kind of waking insanity every single day. How not to feel guilty about putting food in your mouth when you know that your family can’t even find water or a safe place to sleep at night? The torture of this is beyond belief. It almost might feel like a better path to suffer from within the devastation because at least the guilt of escaping from it all and leaving behind a mother, a father, a sibling, your children, a spouse, a best friend, your pets, at least you’d be able to hold them until you weren’t. Being away from home while home is being ended piece by piece is it’s own unique sort of brutality and it must make grieving almost impossible as it is a daily occurrence of loss. You can hear the frustration and disbelief in his voice when he’s attempting to answer questions. His comments about what do words mean when you speak them over and over yet nothing changes is the worst fate. The worst fate because you are not silent and yet the effect is the same. Words become more noise, less effective, less powerful. Why? I’d like to know too. How are we (the people of this country) allowing Israel to massacre innocents? If they are comfortable enough with stating their goals of complete destruction of any and all Palestinian life in public, then in private, behind closed doors, it must be 1000x worse and the diplomats from any country interacting with them must be aware of this. The idea that they wouldn’t know is laughable. What are we left to think about this state of affairs? I think that they must be either held hostage themselves by some secret Israel holds over us or they are in agreement, which is an even more horrific scenario. There are no words at this point. It just needs to stop. Today. Not in a few days to start talking again. End it Now! Israel keeps assassinating the heads of the peace process talks and expanding the conflict to include other nations. Whoever is chosen to lead must then know they and their families will be marked for death. How is this even possible without a complete understanding that Israel is not interested in the peace process, they just use it as a lure to pretend they’re trying to be reasonable. It’s obvious that they never really were. Israel went rogue a long time ago and now they’ve jumped off the cliff. It’s drunk on its own self importance and it’s out of control. Any military aid now is just feeding the monster and destroying the credibility of Israel as a country deserving to exist as it does today. Apartheid is obviously a precursor to genocide, a sign that the world should have noticed (and that Israel should know better than any state) and responded to decades ago, perhaps at the same time it was shunned in South Africa. Boycotting and Divesting is not antisemitic, it’s a peaceful way to say change or deal with the consequences. Now we are all witnessing the reasons behind this movement that was so harshly beaten down in this country. On top of this, humanity has much bigger problems to solve together. With this selfish act, Israel has stolen our energy and fractured our movements to focus on what is coming for us all with a climate collapse. We don’t have time for this sort of nonsense anymore. Sadly the world won’t wait for us to get our shit together. ❤
