Nellie I was born in 1961 in Germany. 1 month before Obama. My father was a war veteran and my mother was german. My father could not bring us to the US because it was still illegal in many states for blacks and whites to marry or live together. We moved here in 67 after the supreme court decision of loving v VA. I am extremely disappointed in Obama's presidency because of his lack of progress on most issues (climate, health care, TPP, wars) He continued most of the policies of the Bush administration and implemented Romney care so at 55 I am humbled by these elders and democracy now for there continued optimism with this struggle of humanity.
@NellieKAdaba8 жыл бұрын
I was born in 1981, and moved to the States in 1994 at age 13 from Brussels, Belgium. I had a slight culture shock. I'm also disappointed in Obama, and other world leaders, being an independent and global citizen, voted Green this time. I've been to Germany only once, to Aachen.
@noviceprepper53978 жыл бұрын
Hi Nellie. I voted Green in 2016 and 2012 but so few other Americans did that the Green Party has gained not even the 5 percent votes Dr. Stein said were needed to apply for federal money available to major parties. With President-elect Trump winning, the Green Party may gain some votes in 2020 but it's very hard to know. I actually thought the Greens had a shot this election cycle to reach 5% but the Obama's are so well liked (I like them myself), that they were able, with Mr. Sanders, to woo citizens to the Democrats who probably would've voted Green. Now Vice President Biden may or may not run in 2020, or Mr. Sanders may run again, I don't know. But I hope the Green Party gets 5% in 2020. P.S. And Mrs. Clinton may run again in 2020. She's probably exhausted now, campaigning through pneumonia (poor lady) but she may be willing to try again. It's hard to say. She did win the popular vote by over two million so she definitely has a base. I was going to vote for her but I was highly concerned about her campaign stated intention of establishing a no fly zone in Syria, and I didn't want the potential for a direct war with Russia, I just didn't want the world to have to deal with a world war. I considered President-elect Trump after I decided against Mrs. Clinton, but in the third Presidential debate he stated his intention to put forth a supreme court justice who is pro-life and I'm strongly pro-choice. I think that right is still trying to be wrestled away from women, and many women around the world don't even have a pretense to choose to bear a child or not - the world is largely patriarchal, a fact I dislike - women should share power in our world, so after I decided against either of the two major party candidates, I decided on Dr. Stein after viewing her stand on the issues. I especially like her stated intention to move us away from fossil fuels (Mrs. Clinton had also stated her intention to do a much lighter version). Now with President-elect Trump, we'll have to wait and see what he decides. As he is strongly pro-business, I just hope he doesn't kill the Paris Agreement, which isn't even an aggressive Agreement but is at least something. He may soften is position because the Republicans will want to win in 2020, and the Democrats will rally for the Senate and House in 2018. Unfortunately I'm pretty ignorant about Senate/House races across the country. Post election some media outlets are saying it's looking Red across the nation. I think I need to learn more about Senate/House races across the nation but I have health issues so it's hard to do in depth research but I'll work at reading more articles on the subject. Best regards.

And Democracy Now is the best source for real news, in my opinion. That talk with Chomsky and Bellefonte gave me hope because they were able to put our very current events into a much broader context to show that our country has indeed been in worse shape, and it's not beyond the grasp of the left to set all of us on a better path. We must unify, as we have the majority!

@rossmeroe...There's an unsung (s)hero here. And that's Julie Robinson Belafonte who, like Mrs. Winnie Mandela, stood by her man during some awfully critical times in history by way of a marriage that, like a gay one, was not supposed to be, this despite the fact that Zipporah, wife of Moses of the Old Testament, was a Kushite who bore him two sons. A magnificently talented human being in her own right, she stood in the shadow of her then famous husband, never trying to take the limelight from him, all the while enduring racially charged and often cruel times. As many have posted before, it was therefore quite a shock to read that the proud Jamaican American had divorced such a woman, a shock equaled by Mandela's divorce from a woman and champion human rights activist, Winnie Mandela.
