I will say this as a Trump supporter who voted for Obama and then stayed home in 2012 and 2016 (was disappointed Ron Paul wasn’t the nominee in 2012 and didn’t take Trump seriously in 2016 and was convinced there wasn’t a real path to victory for him and Hilary would just win by default) I will say, having some experience in Democratic politics, the problem with Sanders on the ticket either at the top or bottom is while he’d certainly energize the base, he’s a bridge too far for upper middle class urban and suburban Democrats and the 5-10% of Republican voters that voted against Trump. The last two elections were won on such close margins that anything could of swung things the opposite way. Hilary ran a bad lazy campaign in 2016 and was just a horrible candidate, but idk how Bernie could ever build a coalition and win.

I've noticed that SNL has decent impressions and funny bits but they are bad at political satire. It seems like propaganda most of the time. People who can make great satire can make great political statements. Something the daily show and last week tonight do great.

+Kaiser We don't have SNL here in the UK but I've always followed it as a staple of American comedy/pop culture, and I have the same impression. SNL's skits are hit and miss... In fact there's probably about 7 misses for every hit, but when they DO hit, man oh man - some of the funniest comedy/greatest characters ever. But yeah, I've never enjoyed their political stuff as much as I enjoy Daily Show/LWT, and am loving watching some of Colbert's new Tonight Show - I didn't think anyone could fill Letterman's shoes but Colbert's taking the show in a slightly new direction and I for one am loving it.

+Kaiser I agree. SNL hasn't been good in decades. Once in awhile they'll have a funny skit but this wasn't one of them. Colbert, John Oliver, and Trevor Noah are masters of political satire. They're witty and intelligent. SNL dumbs things down too much. The writers need to stick to making dumb jokes about pop culture.

Tracy Vanity I agree. I also wanna just say how awesome Trevor Noah has been even in his early beginning stages of TDS, not that I ever doubted him...! I've been discussing elsewhere how, even though I LOVE LWT, John Oliver doesn't quite have the comedic sense of these other guys, but I still think it's a very entertaining and informative show.

+Tracy Vanity I must be a little bit older than you because, actually, it hasn't been funny in two decades. ;) The problem occurred when they started replacing the improvisational actors with writers and began using stand up comedians to "deliver the lines" rather than having the actors work together to create the funny.
