'The reason we've had mass immigration is because we've had too few children for the last 50 years'
Paul Morland says the secret to solving labour shortages over the long term while cutting immigration is to increase the number of children being born.

There was a simple solution; incentivize native British people have produce more children. The same funds that were wasted on immigration should have been diverted to native Brit’s.
@christopherlord3441
@christopherlord3441 3 ай бұрын
How is that a simple solution? Many governments have tried to find policies that do that and you can have policies that encourage people who already want children to take the plunge - for example here in France, where there are child allowances, daycare for working mothers, free education, etc. But once you have a society where people think expensive holidays, new cars and so on are more important than having children there is nothing you can do. One policy that does work is giving council flats to teenage single mothers. Maybe that's the answer.

@@Malayalikada The United Kingdom has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in Western Europe. One common reason is that girls at the bottom of society have been brought up in social housing, called council houses in the UK, and are desperate to escape from their families - often in fact single mothers, perhaps with several children by different men. So the simplest method is to become pregnant without being in a couple. This will entitle them to a free flat of their own. Then they can repeat the cycle.

Odd philosophy from this man when world population has literally doubled in a mere 50 years. Over here, yes maybe indigenous people don't reproduce enough but that doesn't warrant the mass scale immigration that has been forced upon us over the last 25 years, and again the population here is 10 or so million higher in just a couple of decades. We also have millions not working so there is your pool of resources if you stop making unemployment a better option.

He's contradicted himself by acknowledging there's a housing shortage but then saying we need more people because we aren't having any. It's obvious that if we are to catch up with housing demand here in the UK then we need to have net zero migration for a considerable number of years. We can't keep up with current demand which is to build one new house every two minutes to keep up with the population growth with such large influxes of people coming here. It's a vicious circle. Because there's often no hope for young people born here to buy their own home, then they can't or choose not to have children themselves. I heard a stat yesterday of something like 30% of all people in their 30s still live at home with mum and dad because they can't afford to buy or rent a place of their own. How are they supposed to have children when they can't even afford to put a roof over their own heads?

If you give young women a straight choice between children and expensive shoes and handbags, the majority will go for shoes and handbags. If they can go out to work to buy their own shoes and handbags they no longer need men or children. That's what's happened in Japan, South Korea and the big cities in China. It's the glamour industry that does it. There's a district in Seoul devoted to plastic surgery for girls from all over East Asia who turn up clutching photos of their favourite K-pop star and go home delighted with the results. In rural China, the girls all leave for city life in search of shoes, handbags, plastic surgery and the rest of it. They say they want to get married, but they all want tall, handsome millionaires because they've been told that glamorous girls like them deserve that. So the young men in the countryside are left single and lonely. It's not a question of childcare policy. It's mass competitive consumerism.

"people just don't want to have kids anymore through choice" What allows that choice? Birth control and termination of 'accidental' pregnancies. What if there was no birth control option? People would be more sexually responsible and settle down and start families instead of being fruitlessly promiscuous.

In more developed countries, women have more choices and a lot dont want to rush to have kids. Rather than importing people who hate us, have no desire to help this country, they should incentivise having families and fix the economy. End the gravey train/free ride.

Problem is that machines are taking over jobs. You have the "physical" machines doing the manual labour and AI taking over the creative industries...so WHAT do all these "extra" workers are going to do as a "worker"?. Fix machines and become slaves to technology?. I dislike intensely all these people that seem to put the sum worth of human existence on "breeding capacity"...not all of us fall in line with "these rules"...some of us would certainly upset the applecart of societal "norms" if the truth came out.

World population continues to rise. Perhaps western nations have decreasing growth of population, but overall, the global rate of growth is increasing. Why do you think there are millions upon millions literally bursting the gates. They have been crowded out of their countries, leaving few opportunities. In 1900 the world population was about 2 billion. 125 years later, a geoligical snippet in time, the world population is now at a crazy 8 billion and growing. The only way that we could have quadrupled our population in such a short period of time was through the use of fossil fuels. This is actually not normal when compared to rest of human history. This carbon pulse, unfortunately, is limited - it wont last forever. We have set ourselves a trap.

A child is two dependents: the child himself and the adult who had to care for it. In my family of origin, the worker:dependent ratio was 1:5, and that was normal. Then in the 1970s, women stopped producing dependents and became worker/taxpayers themselves, resulting in an unnaturally high proportion of workers to dependents. The ageing of the population is the return to a more natural ratio of workers to dependents.

The problem is large population growth followed by a birth rate decline. It leaves businesses without labour or consumers which means recession. Recession means politicians loose jobs. It also means the average age of the population increases which is a drain on resources. A double economic whammie.

One of the main reasons for population numbers dropping,is high taxation pressures being pushed by governments especially in the west. Working families struggling with housing and bills, will inevitably push back on having kids, it’s happening in Japan even china,high taxes higher stress levels woke culture feminisation of men leads to shrinking populations, simple logic really you don’t need to be a scientist to work this out.🤔anyway back to reality vote reform this Thursday or face the consequences 😇😎🇬🇧👍👍👍👍

This guy has ot so wrong. Of course it can be about money in a rich country. In the UK which we are told is a rich country, which in reality we are a poor country with all the debt the country has, even if you are on a good wage you can still have a garbage life because of the cost of living. A man who has a million pounds but has £999,999 in debts and bills is a poor man but a man who has £100,000 but £10,000 in debts and bills is a rich man. We might get higher wages in the UK than other countries but by the time your income tax, mortgage, council tax, gas and electricity etc has gone out ypu are a pauper.
