Neat to see an Odyssey on commercial with the hands of a pro. I run one with a Curotto on resi, with the HALO joystick. My tall ass can reach in from the right hand side and operate the joystick just fine so there isn't much need for outside controls, but I see the application on commercial. I fail to understand the benefit of autonomous lift for anything outside of resi, seems like there is too much room for error. The autolift is nice for resi, especially since they let some drivers operate these trucks at my company who really shouldn't be operating anything larger than a tricycle. Cuts down on room for operator error. In manual mode, it is difficult to control the bucket because of all the sensors in the joystick itself. I'd prefer your standard air operated joystick instead. The pack buttons are nice to have but seem to intimidate any driver used to the standard Odyssey joystick.

Wow, that truck is as smooth as hell, I would not call you a skinny ass, don't shame yourself. You do a great job running this thing! If you have any old Waste Connections hats, i'd buy em! Keep kickin ass on those frontloads!

More technology=more electrical problems! How many tons did you pack in this truck, vs a McNeilus or any other body?

While I admit the Odyssey is smooth with the controls, I couldn't stand the one I drove at ADS. You're 100% correct on the pack blade and blade cycle. It's almost like all of a sudden you hit a "wall" and then game over, but yet appears to be room left in the body. Also really stupid how instead of using proxy sensors, they use arc sensors. Had one sensor go out in left side arm cylinder and truck was down for a week and the only fix was to replace the entire cylinder since the sensors are built into them. Truck probably only had 800 hours on at that point. I'll take a McNeilus Atlantic hands down any day over any Heil body. It is nice with the Heil cushions in the cylinders, especially when running SSR with glass mixed in it, but we actually have McNeilus instal a deceleration valve on the arm cylinders and it works just as good to slow it down before it hits the bumper pads so they don't slam against them and make a mess. McNeilus forks are much faster than a Heil, so shaking wedged material out of containers using the forks works pretty well. I'd agree with you that overall I'm not impressed with the Odyssey.

I kinda feel like Heil is putting way to much technology in a garbage truck. Like it’s kinda crazy that you just press a button and it goes up, levels out and dumps.

The resi version actually packs better, in place of the top door switches there is a button to run the packer to "travel position" flush with the top of the body (or further). Sometimes if you struggle with the packer for long enough, it will break whatever it is stuck on, but I have yet to find a way to do that consistently.

Add a self-driving chassis and the career of being a garbage man will become nearly obsolete... I agree Heil might have overdone it with this one. While the idea of a completely autonomous dumping cycle sounds good for the press, it leaves the driver with even less to do and the mechanic shop with more electrical problems to figure out. I'm glad they kept the manual controls so it's up to the driver what they want to use - though I see the majority of drivers taking advantage of this system and becoming a little braindead behind the wheel. Overall I appreciated your input and effort to film and share this video - it's always a nice refresher to see actual "enthusiast" videos pop up amidst an infinite sea of new channels that get a kick out of filming the same 4 trucks.

At this point this much computers and sensors is just overkill. Not being able to slam a dumpster is just unbelievable, I get they are trying to save wear and tear but what about the people who pack their bins like shit or those with wet loads? She is a nice rig but it is not one I would trust everyday. I think the IGS front load body is a better and more rugged option without all the sensors and fancy "lazy" buttons.

Beautiful Truck Very good technologies in United States .

It's a beautiful machine, but from an operator standpoint, Heil is doing way too much. They have a solid product that they are overcomplicating.
