„Culturalism“ is part of or used synonymously for racism btw. Same for group based discrimination. If you say „fuck the Armenians“ or „fuck the Italians“ nobody gives a shit if Armenians or Italians aren’t rly a race, it’s labeled as racism. You are also this close from understanding the issue. If most blacks are lower class, and ppl don’t like lower class, then they can just use the blackness to rule lower class out (it doesn’t work with whites). As a result, blacks will continue to remain lower class for even longer since theyre more often rejected. It doesn’t matter if the black guy is really rly poor or not. Seeing him will refer to = poor or poorer than his white counterpart. This is racism. That’s why comments like „ur rich for a black person“ are racist. They reproduce a social hierarchy and tie it to a skin color
@QuesoGr7
@QuesoGr7 4 жыл бұрын
@@frbe0101 The problem isn't that classism is "A-Ok" but people forget that it's a thing and only focus on the race part. There are many things in this country that affects more than us black folk but the popular belief is that it only affects us. Remember, even back before the Civil War some blacks owned land with slaves, and lived better than a lot of white southerners. Race plays a part but a lot of the times that's not the whole story.
@katielest7529

The White Table racism isn’t just saying I don’t like poc. Assuming someone’s race and economic status by their name is racist. Studies have been done on job call backs using white names vs black sounding names. If you hear someone’s name and assume that they belong to blank culture (which assuming the culture of black people is poor is racist) and that affects how you treat them that’s racist.

From slavery, brutal acts of public violence, segregation too a black family in the White House in such a short time is extraordinary progress!! A significant percentage of the USA’s people are now actively “ANTI-Racist”, that’s an amazing achievement! America isn’t all bad. It seems like Americans have over-corrected...Growing-up in 1980’s England we saw ‘Reagan’s Americans’ as loud, flag waving & arrogant, now ‘Trumps Americans’ appear self loathing & depressed. 🤕 Peer pressure wields so much power. It’s tragic that America has divided & attacked its self at this time in liberal progress. The real differences between the U.K. & the USA really shocked me, particularly when it comes to race. I moved to America just in time to watch the first Bush vs Gore debate & returned home the winter Trump had been elected...

The reason that those housing discrimination acts don't work is because even if i couldn't refuse you a loan based on your race, I can refuse you a home based on income. So black people who have always been poor can't buy a house or get a loan still, because underwriters don't believe they can afford them and applications are declined. Then, in desperation many will get with predatory loan companies and end up even more in debt and have their credit rating drop because of the high interest rates and high payments.

Attackmaster. If you took the time to actually even read the Wikipedia article on redlining (it’s not that hard, is it?) or any social study on the subject you’d notice that the structures and effects of redlining are still there, and with very good reason: once a system has reached a critical mass, the stuctures will reproduce themselves. Anyone with more than a rudimentary understanding of sociology (to which I do not count Ben Shapiro or you) understands this, as examples of this can be seen all over the world, not just with black communities. East Germany has been poor since the fall of the wall, the phenomenon is examined since then and nothing has changed, zilch. Do you think they all haven’t been working hard enough or is it time for u to grasp that economic and social class systems essentially build upon nepotisms (again, the prevalent reproduces itself), like a normal human being who can google social science?

Relatable. My father once told me that "Everyone that is rich got there by working hard, even if they were born to a wealthy family they had to work hard to keep it. If you aren't wealthy then you probably just don't want it bad enough to really work for it". I asked him if that included him, if he was not wealthy because he personally did not want it hard enough to work for it. He looked me dead in the eye and said "Yes, even me. The fact that I am not wealthy is because I didn't want it bad enough to work for it". For context my father worked as an ironworker for most of my childhood and now to this day works I estimate around 3000 hours a year doing swing shifts as a boiler operator for an oil refinery. I don't think I need to point out that the guy does more work in a six month period than the average trust fund baby does their whole lives, yet even he is convinced of this nonsense. Sad.

When 400 years of slavery and 100 years of legally enshrined segregation shouldn't matter but 50 years of theoretically equal home lending should. And by the way, black people are still denied home loans at far higher rates, but now it's justified on the basis of poor credit scores and the general fact that poor people have a harder time qualifying for loans. That might not be a bad thing (handing out loans to people who can't afford them is what caused the housing market crash after all), but here you see the disparity in generational wealth coming out and black people now not being able to buy homes because of the economic consequences of their parents and grandparents being barred from buying homes because they were black. Fun fact, this applies for cars as well (y'know, the thing you would theoretically use to transport your kids to schools in wealthy white neighborhoods). Numerous auto manufacturers at some point been sued for being caught charging black people higher interest rates for car loans. Honda paid a $24 million settlement for doing this *in 2015*. It's just so pervasive. One might almost use the word... "systemic."
@AlJennXander
@AlJennXander 4 жыл бұрын
That’s not what caused the crash as I understand it. Wasn’t it selling bad investments as good ones and then betting on them to fail? That seems different than just giving loans to people that can’t afford it. It’s more like looking specifically for the people that can’t afford it, giving them bad loans and then betting that they will default by selling off your high risk debt you know likely won’t be paid back but calling it a low risk investment. Or am I missing something? Just curious if anyone can enlighten me I’m a layman at best.

Shapiro cherrypicked ONE study from 1992 to try to show redlining doesn't exist anymore... ...meanwhile there have been dozens of paired testing studies done since that 1992 study that show when you control for all variables except race (ie same credit scores, income, duration of employment, etc), if you are black you are far more likely to be turned down for a loan, and even in the cases when your application is accepted you're on average have a significantly higher interest rate and a shorter time (also far more likely to only be given a sub-prime loan); you're also more likely to be told by real estate agents that "nothing is available at the moment" (while the whites that applied as part of the paired testing are told something is available), and likely to be shown a different property/rental unit than whites applying at the same time with all other non-racial variables controlled for (aka racial steering). The fact is redling still occurs, no matter how much Ben feels like it doesn't.

He uses paired testing data from studies conducted every year by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. I still have notebooks somewhere with notes I transcribed literally word for word for EVERY lecture slide; his exam questions were all written essay answers where he wanted you to pretty much quote him exactly from the lectures and he refused to give out his lecture slides because he was paranoid we'd post them on koofers or something, idk he was kind of an odd dude). I nearly ended up with carpal tunnel syndrome trying to keep up with him every day. I've been meaning to dig up those notes because I usually included the study citations he'd put after every data point he'd include in the lectures, that way I could list them out in an email and see if Vaush wanted them for the research document. I might be able to find them in the DHUD website though without having to dig through old notebooks, now that I think of it...

@@glock17sks56 "The degree you choose decides your capability of making the greenbacks." True, but not everyone makes that their priority when pursuing higher education. My sister has been a teacher for over a decade and has just recently paid off student loans. So does that mean that no one should become a teacher? Or any other vital career like criminal justice and some health careers that don't make necessarily lots of money? Also, gender studies has its own gems. It teaches depths of history that you would've never known by solely taking standard history courses, and it also opens doors for various social-service and even law careers.

@K0sm1cKid 4 жыл бұрын
@@raisetheroof1492 the issue is that people go into massive debt getting degrees that can't repay said debt, and then blame the system and expect others to pull them out. 2 things can be true at once: 1. Higher education shouldn't be that expensive in the first place. For degrees that won't be able to repay debt there ought to be private companies that offer the same education without the arbitrary piece of paper that dramatically increases the cost of the good. 2. We may want University to be more affordable, but that won't happen in the immediate future. Until then we have to make decisions that protect our financial wellbeing. If you want to engage in women's studies you can better spend your money accessing that informatoon yourself and taking courses through companies that don't offer any sort of university credit. (Assuming you aren't going to have a 4.0 GPA and pursue some sort of other degree like law) That way you access the same knowledge and you aren't racked with debt. The same applies to any of the arts if you believe your chances of employment are unlikely to pay for your degree. It means a lot more to be talented at your respective art than it does to have a piece of paper, your portfolio will hold a lot more weight than the degree ever will. The irony is that the logic we are discussing here where you sacrifice money for the sake of higher education at university is something that can really only be pursued by those who come from a wealthy background.

@james stpatrick Then shouldn't the percentage of black people and white people in poverty be equal? Or are you suggesting that there is something innate to being black that makes them "foolish".
