There are so many things in this movie that we no longer even notice, because they have become reality, but were a complete sci-fi in 1993. Like tablet computers, video conferencing, electric cars, talking with a computer, using NFC chips for unlocking doors, Arnold Schwarzenegger's career in politics...

@@vodengc520 in the European version it is not Taco Bell, but Pizza Hut :) Because almost nobody in Europe knew them at the time and therefore would probably not get the joke. 😁 In my country, Austria there isn't a single Taco Bell restaurant. In Germany there are only 2, and those are within US military bases

@Matúš Horváth Are you completely ignorant??? "There are so many things in this movie that we no longer even notice, because they have become reality, but were a complete sci-fi in 1993" 1. dude, video- conferencing was not "complete sci-fi" in 1993. put down the crack pipe. At&t released their first video phone in 1970. I used one at my dad's office when I was 4 years old in 1975. 2. tablet computers were not complete sci-fi. In 1989, the GRiDPad 1900, was released, 4 years before this movie. 3. electric cars were not complete sci-fi. The first electric car in the United States was developed in 1890. 103 years before this film. The Bersey Electric Cab was the first electric taxi cab in London. in 1897 a total fleet of 77 were built & in service at once. In the US by 1900 40 percent of automobiles were powered by steam, 38 percent by electricity, and 22 percent by gasoline. A total of 33,842 electric cars were registered in the US There were 250+ listed manufacturers who produced an electric vehicle in the US pre ww2 electric car models go back decades. electric vehicles were used by companies on loading docks. east German postal service in the 50s & 60s used electric vans. 4. The idea of communicating with a computer started practically in 1966. MIT professor Joseph Weizenbaum created a computer & anyone could come & chat with it. He called it ELIZA, and it changed everything. Besides, people were talking to "HAL" 25 years before this film. 5. do people even do basic research anymore? none of this is that complicated.

Fun movie. Wesley Snipes even 30 years ago got to use his martial arts knowledge in some of the fight scenes. Who knew that only five years later he'd get to showcase those talents as a Marvel Comic dark super hero starring in "Blade".

Simon Says has been around for centuries. Earliest instance from the column of miscellanea, All Sorts of Paragraphs, in the Boston Morning Post (Boston, Massachusetts) of 25th April 1842 (the game was already well known at that time, since it is implicitly referred to.

I forgot how the it happened but due to an accident by the doctors when Sylvester Stallone was born they messed up or broke his jaw when pulling him out. So that's why he has that a unique face (jaw line) and that's also what made him have that his unique voice too. Now for the 3 sea shells. From what I remember is that you would use 2 of the seashell like tongs to grab any hanging poop from your rear and you used the 3rd seashell to scrape it off any remains.

Don't need to be prophetic when the creators of Science Fiction always seem to have serious connections to those that mold society. Even as far back as H.G. Wells, the "Father of Science Fiction," he had direct connections to leaders of industry, finance, technology and politics. His nonfiction writings get overlooked for the sake of the fiction but he was telling what those leaders where putting into motion on the long timeline.

Simpliest answer for three shead shells is: Its bide control. Water on off, waiter temprature and water pressure and air cooling. Bit like those fancy japanese smart toilets. Wesley Snipes was so fun in this one. it took me years to noticePhoenix had heterochromia in this film, which just added flavour of John Phoenix. Other good Wesley Snipes films besides Blade 1-2, are Passenger 57 and White men can´t Jump.

12:15 Here and several other times, you touch on an important point: While the society presents itself as peaceful and harmonious, we keep being shown things that imply that it's actually a dystopian horror-show. It might look peaceful, but only as long as you play by the rules set by your unelected overlord. If you don't, down into the sewers you go. Even just the recurring joke about being fined for swearing implies that your every word is being recorded. There's no such thing as privacy in this world. Another example is the question of why the scraps stay in the sewers and don't just take over completely. There must be something holding them back and it's clearly not the police force.

As to the "loaded" weapons in the museum. It's mainly for plot reasons (obviously), and the society depicted in this docummentary is just stupid enough to do that, but weapons on display in museums should be de-milled (otherwise known as "deactivated") - such weapons have the essential parts either bored through, or welded shut, to make them physically incapable of firing any sort of ammunition.

This is a delightfully campy movie though some of its extreme measures are becoming facts in the world which is creepy. Not that far off. The children's game "Simon Says" has been in existence in it's recognizable form since the early 1800's. There are written records of it being referenced dating back to the 1870's and its mentioned the game is long known. The French variant has written records back to the 1850's, so... yeah. Fun facts about games today with your Demolition Man movie!
@wyterabitt2149
@wyterabitt2149 Жыл бұрын
Where did you get those dates from? English records of it go back to the early 1800s (1820s) and that is referencing an already established old game. The earliest record I have seen for the French version was after the 1800s.

That clip was the bit I remembered most clearly. 🤣

I remember buying this on VHS (DVDs didn't exist then), about 1995. To put this into context, the internet, I would see for the first time in late 1998 and my first dial up internet was in 2000. It is interesting to see how the references envisaged in this imaginary future, stand the test of time 30 years later. For example, the helicopter that Stallone is in at the beginning, the chinook, is still in service. Lightweight electric cars, we're still some way off those being the norm.

If you want hilarious sci-fi, check out Mars Attacks. It's a Tim Burton film (he did Nightmare Before Christmas. I think that's the only movie of his you've seen so far). I rewatched it recently and had forgotten how funny it was (and to say it has an all star cast is an understatement). It spoofs 1950's sci-fi movies.

I think "Moon" would make a great movie for you. It's underrated but it's really, really good. You should imdb or rotten tomatoes it & check it out. It's sci-fi done really well.
