In a previous iteration, she had told him "Peyton" was her middle name to get him to piss off or shut him up, because she was probably aware - on each iteration - that it would be better for him not to get attached to her the way she did Hendricks. She told him the truth after she realized he already was. Emily Blunt really does a fantastic job of playing this relationship, this 'take it on faith' quasi-romance, in which she only ever knows him for a day but she understands how he feels about her because she's been in his shoes. That payoff line, that she wishes she could have gotten to know him better, is about as far as you can believably take a "love story" in this circumstance, and she nails it without sounding like she's feeling something that doesn't make sense for her character.

@@carlalussini Well speaking as an American, to be clear our loyalty is primarily to the country, not the state, even those who are fiercely loyal to their state and may say jokingly that they are a Texan or a Kentuckian (as in this case) rather than an American, they don't really mean it. It was meant as a joke. When push comes to shove, in our hearts we are Americans. As to our laws and given that many regions of the US have a very different view on what is moral, we have a constitution that allows the states some freedom in passing laws that differ from the laws in other states. And it also mandates some laws that all states have to abide to. And that system has worked quite well. it allows sometimes for up to 50 different ways to address difficult or controversial issues. With the most successful generally becoming the blueprint for the other 49 states to follow.

Each state is a country, much like the European Union. The difference is that some states left at one point, and they were conquered and forced back into the union where as the EU has an explicit exit mechanism.

When Rita killed a blue mimic at Verdun, she started resetting the day and kept dying... she tried to locate and kill the Omega without success w/ the help of Dr. Carter. The last time she reset the day, she beat the mimic army at Verdun, but her injury and subsequent blood transfusion kept time carrying out out of the loop she was in... Without the power to reset the day, she knew that the next battle would be her last as the counter attack was likely to fail w/ the Omega anticipating the future using its time-looping power. When Cage killed the blue mimic and got the same power that Rita had at Verdun, he experienced the same frustration - could not locate and terminate the Omega. After Rita, the Omega was prepared to find any human who managed to 'steal' its power of time-looping the day... That was how Cage found out that his visions were a trap (like it had been for Rita). In the end, Cage lost the power after his blood transfusion, but managed to find the Omega's true location using Dr. Carter's device... When Cage destroyed the Omega in the end, he absorbed it's blood and reset the day... Much like he took the power after killing the blue mimic and reset the day every time he died (which was the function of blue mimics) but retained the memories, this time Cage took the Omega's power after killing it. As a result, when he reset the day a final time, he claimed the Omega's power, which resulted in the Omega dying (which was the power surge detected as a result of Cage's reset)... Without a live Omega, the remaining mimics crashed because Cage does not have the Omega's connection to the mimic army. When Cage had the blue mimic's power, he was not connected to the Omega or the mimic army, which is why only he could remember after each death & reset... The Omega could not retain Cage's memories, but could only sense that a non-mimic had access to its time-looping power, and set measures to lure the time-looping human out, so that it could reclaim its power and carry on, like it did w/ Rita.

Leaving him, at the end, the only surviving "creature" to have the gift of ...reset. Actually, the question is now ...if he is ever killed in an accident during his entire lifetime ...will he be able to simply... ...Reset !?!?!?🤔🤨

Mary! When you mentioned Tom Cruise learning to hold his breath, that was actually something he did for Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. I just recently discovered your channel and have been binging your movie reactions, and based on how much you’ve enjoyed Tom Cruise movies, you absolutely HAVE to watch the Mission Impossible series! You really seem to enjoy movies with twists and turns, movies that keep you guessing, and Mission Impossible is full of that! Plus, Tom does all of his own stunts, there’s some really cool spy tech throughout the series, and I think you’d really love the characters in the later movies especially! It’s a series that actually gets better with each movie (the 2nd movie is the only exception, it’s not a bad movie but it’s the worst of the series). I think you’d enjoy these other Tom Cruise movies: Jack Reacher: this movie is a who-dun-it with a dark and mysterious tone. Tom does his own stunts, and there’s some really great and inventive fight scenes. He also does his own stunt driving! This also applies to the Mission Impossible movies. In the Mission movies there are lots of incredible car/motorcycle chases, and he does it all. He’s a professional driver, literally he raced cars for Paul Newman! Anyway his car chase in this movie is great, and the movies throws some twists your way and the narrative is told really well. Vanilla Sky: this one is kind of unique. It’s a romance, but also sci-fi, and has some CRAZY twists in it that would blow your mind and have you rewatching just to figure out what really happened! It’s a melancholy movie with deep themes and interesting concepts, and watching it is a very unique experience. Oblivion: this is a fantastic movie. M83 is a great band and they did the entire soundtrack, and it’s magnificent! It’s directed by Joe Kazanski who also directed Top Gun Maverick. The style of the movie is superb, and you’d LOVE watching the behind the scenes. So much of the movie is real and not special effects, it’s incredible. It’s got a wonderful story with awesome story twists and one of my favorite endings ever! It’s a story about mankind beating technology, and I think you’d really appreciate that. The Firm: this movie has an old-school feel to it that is really cool. The soundtrack is jazz music and it’s so unique but also really works well! It’s a really creepy story and keeps you guessing. And Tom Cruise runs a lot haha! Honestly, you should just watch his entire filmography. Even in Rock of Ages, which isn’t a great movie as a whole, Tom Cruise is AMAZING. He plays an aging rock star, and he trained for months to learn how to do his own singing and dancing. It’s not a great movie but his scenes are worth watching and you’re mind would be blown! So many of his movies are just fantastic and you should definitely keep reacting to them :) I am loving all of your videos, thanks for being so entertaining and creating great content! :) Edit: just got to the very end of the video, and you already discovered that holding his breath was for Mission Impossible. Hope that means you’ll be watching them!

The “I’m from Kentucky” reference is a phrase that some Americans say to differentiate or separate themselves from the larger United States, usually to make some sort of general or political point. ie: “I don’t have to do what others do because I’m from…..”. The history comes from various States threatening to succeed from the rest of the US due to that States disagreement with some sort of decisions that was made by the Federal government. The only problem is that there is no reason for "the wormhole" to connect to any other point than the beginning of the day. We know that's when the entrance point is - we've been watching it for the entire movie. That the Omega has its own reset point which just happens to be when the movie opened is over-stretching coincidence.

I love the optimistic premise that human beings are more than we give ourselves credit for. We are not our rage, not our petty grievances, not our outrage, not our egos, not our ignorance, not 99% of what our lives show us we are. Movies like this insist that we are something more that only comes to the surface when we are pushed to the very limits of our existence and pops the bubble we live in. Allowing us to exist as a true human being, without limits, acting with love and compassion, sacrificing without reservation, capable of real "humanity". It's like a sneak peek into what awaits human beings if we evolve.

“You’re an American.” ”No, sir. I’m from Kentucky.” So, this is a statement of pride and identity, _approximately_ equivalent to: “You’re European.” “No, sir. I’m from Belgium.” Or perhaps: “You’re a Belgian.” “No, sir. I’m from Antwerp.” America has this federalist structure to it where individual states are considered sovereign, but also immutably members of the whole. Between that and America’s immense geography, some Americans more closely identify with their state than the nation itself (most famously Texans do this, but you can find people like this anywhere). It’s where a lot of our political and cultural divide ultimately originates (are we United states, or are we united States?). It’s a _very_ complicated thing, and I’m probably gonna get a lot of pushback even from what little I’ve written, but I think this is about as brief an overview as is possible for someone with no prior context who just wants to understand a confusing exchange from a movie.
@mobiusflammel93722 жыл бұрын
You're completely right about that. And, as you've identified, I've always felt uneasy about that tendency to see that divide because it has caused issues and continues to do so. But I also understand people having a sense of pride in their state. So... it's tricky to say the least.
@bigdream_dreambig2 жыл бұрын
No need for pushback here; your answer was very good! I would just add that this tendency is especially common in states whose people have a strong independent / self-reliant streak (typically with smaller populations per unit area), as well as in the Southern states that attempted to break from the U.S. in our Civil War.

Great movie. I really love this one. Another great Cruise Sci-Fi movie is Oblivion. Hopefully they will vote for that one next. Many Americans have state loyalties before national. If you ask me what I am I would say Iowan first. Born and raised. Go Hawks! In American it is bachelorette party and in British it is Hen-do. I cannot help but think American women would find 'hen-do' insulting. Best to not think to much about time travel. Just go with it. The exception to this rule is 12 Monkeys. In that movie it makes sense somehow.

Oh, I forgot that Bill Paxton is in this movie. RIP Paxton. (Died too soon, due to complications after a bad surgery). "Call Me by your Name" was dedicated to him (I always wondered why so I looked it up:) Here are the words of his friend Peter Spears (On Twitter): ‘My husband Brian Swardstrom was Bill’s best friend and agent for almost his entire career. Brian is also the agent of Timothee Chalamet (as well as Tilda Swinton, which is how we all met Luca [Guadagnino, Call Me By Your Name’s director] years ago). ‘Brian and Bill came to visit us on set while we were shooting in Crema, Italy, on their way to Cannes where Bill had a movie premiere." ‘Bill and Luca became friends, as they have been great admirers of each other’s work for many years, and Luca chose to honour his memory by dedicating the movie to him. A very moving gesture for which Brian and I will be forever grateful. Thank you all for asking.’ Written by: PETER SPEARS

"Scary how like if you think you're not gonna die how dangerous you suddenly become." Mary there was a guy that led police on a wild chase after robbing a few stores and driving wild all over the place. Police said what was strange is he was fearless. When they talked to the people that lived around him they found out he came to believe in reincarnation. He had told his neighbor that life was like a video game, when we die we are sent back again. If you research September 11th reincarnated kids you will see there are some kids that know their previous lives down to their first, last names, and professions. If you found this interesting you should consider watching 12 Monkeys. I believe it deals with this subject in a more academic level by bring things like the Casandra complex into it. In life there have been people that have been exposed to strange events that they later found out could only have taken place if they "traveled" in time. I say "traveled" because some believe time is an illusion and time may really be layered like an onion than a straight line with events along the way. If in fact, it is like an onion then sometimes time may "leak" from one layer to the next revealing themselves for that brief moment to random people. The problem is the Casandra complex. If you saw events no one would believe you anyway. You trying to warn people would fall on deaf ears. Changing the future to avoid events would be futile. This is one of my favorite subject in movies. Groundhog Day started it all. 12 Monkeys, Before I Fall, Edge of Tomorrow, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, Happy Death Day, Source Code, The Time Traveler's Wife, (must see) and Looper all are about time and how humans deal with it. Its fascinating and really the only way to experience time in this way. By the way, this is the fourth time you've read this comment about these movies. Best wishes.

12:00 You're right, most actors in the main cast aren't "allowed" to do dangerous stunts because firstly, the insurance is really costly, and secondly, yes, if he or she gets injured, it can seriously delay the production. But Tom Cruise will either be a producer on the movie so he can make the decision himself to do his stunts (like in the MI movies), and/or he'll use his stature to convince the production company to risk paying that costly insurance (like with this movie, where he wasn't a producer). Or in the case of one of the MI movies, he fired the insurance company when they refused to let him do a dangerous stunt, and basically insured himself, lol.

I saw this movie in the nearest movie theater to Science Hill, KY. We all gasped when he said he was from Science Hill. None of us knew it was coming it was so funny. Of all the random places to pick tiny Science Hill KY. On the "no I'm from KY" line as someone from this area I would say it is because the accent is so obvious of course he is from America. He is just messing with him. We think anyone or at least any native English speaker would automatically know from our accent that we are American. We might as well be carrying a flag.

A lot of Americans, especially in the south, identify more with their state than their country. When he said, “No, I’m from Kentucky” it was his way of saying he thinks of himself as Kentuckian first and American second.
