They were even designed by church architect Emil B. Fetzer to have the same exterior, which is meant to look like a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night, representing the Lord going before the children of Israel. Their uniqueness was that they had a twin. 😁

I left for my mission in 1972. I flew from Virginia to Utah to enter the Mission Home in SLC, but before that I toured the new Provo Temple during its open house. I then went through the Salt Lake Temple for my own endowments. Now neither exist as I knew them. I'm fine with whatever the Lord wants.

I accept it. And I am grateful that Kirtland is thriving. But it never had the technology/ infrastructure that we have had this past century. I was also sealed there. But I look forward to the replacement being finished and dedicated so I can get back to serve at the pace I have become accustomed to. That’s what is most important. For the temples to be operational and attended. It’s very hard to get the appointments I used to when we had both Provos. Even with Orem recently opened. I heard they are hurrying to get Lindon done. That will help.

Heart broken. I loved the meaning in the architecture. "And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them in the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light" It was the Lord in our midst just like the Israelites brought out of Egypt - literally the Lord gathering Israel. But hey, we'll save and renovate all other temples, but this Temple gets destroyed to be a McTemple.

The same design 100 or 1,000 miles apart is one thing especially if the state is the size of Montana or Utah and you only have 3-4 temples in the entire state. But 3 in the same county? Come on guys. Give us something more original if you're going to build 3-4 temples in the same county in the same 10 years.😢. At least the insides will look different. Actually, oddly enough, I think the temples are designed by employees then submitted for approval. Apparently the Lindon temple was designed by a different person, thank the heavens. Oh well. I can at least hope in 100 years the 3 in Utah county will be renovated again with a more unique look for at least one of them....

They wouldn't demolish it for a frivolous reason, it must have too many issues with it to be able to save it. @@gameface6091 are you aware that in the 1950’s the seismic engineering was still in its early baby stages? It was also more reliant on the basic structural reinforcement instead of the flexible foundations of today, not to mention that concrete was the primary material in the temple so it would’ve costed wayyyy more than a normal building. So it makes more sense for the church to wait until nowadays to rebuild it with earthquake proofing. It has nothing to do with God being different then vs now.

I have heard something like that before, ah yes: Matthew 26: 7-11 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. 8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. The purpose of temples may be likened to an ointment in preparation for His return, lest the Earth should be utterly wasted. Besides, how does this prevent you from spending your own money on the poor?
