In a ton of games you can "cook" a grenade before you throw it, aka pull pin, release lever, count to self and hope you counted right, then throw and hope it gets far enough from you before it goes boom, it's not allowed or tolerated in training from what I've heard but is taught as emergency stuff in a book...basically it's them saying "this is fucking stupid and dangerous.. But it might work, just don't do it where we'll be liable" Yes... The government is okay if you get yourself killed pulling a stupid stunt off in combat that you've had absolutely zero practice with, so count those Mississippis well and don't over or under do it. But seriously... Just throw it like normal or go full hero and go out with the boom ball. Untill tech advances enough that we can electronically detonate them within Pico seconds of timing that is.

More counting down a finicky death ball with no definitive detonation time within 1 second or less. Haha oh that they do.. Did you know the USA made an actual impact grenade? I believe it was the oss predecessor to the FBI if I'm right, guess what though, apparently they killed more of our own troops than the enemies. Rule of thumb, the older it is the less you can rely on it. People, organisations, equipment etc, the longer it's around the less likely it will function well. A safe explosive today could be sensitive to a dog running in 100 years, or it could go neutral and do literally nothing. Don't rely on old stuff unless that particular thing is well known to work that period of time after creation,like certain guns. I could go on endlessly but I think i made my point,use stuff when and how you should and remember, the big boys only love you on home nation territory...out there? Don't bet on uncle Sam. He'll be napping with his bottle of bourbon.

The way I understand it, microwaves work by exciting the water molecules in food, which causes friction, which makes heat. So something like a grenade or explosives that don't really have any water in them wouldn't heat up that much in the first place. And like Sean said, it's more about using a little explosion to set off a bigger one. It makes sense to think that enough heat alone would do it, because that'll usually start a fire at some point anyway, but I guess if that were the case then explosives would be a lot more dangerous when they're just sitting around waiting to be used, and that could be a problem.

Actually, any conductive material will heat up in the microwave. Water is just the most conductive material expected to be found in food. Metal will heat up extremely well in the microwave, you can even use it like a forge to melt metals. However, you need to use old or modified microwave, as most new ones has safety detectors that will limit power if it detects metal. Also, do not attempt to modify microwave unles you are professional, and don't value your life too high. It has a certain transformer inside that outputs the voltage that is literally ideal to immediately kill the one who touches it.

It's worth noting that C4 is incredibly shock sensitive when it is burning. One guy stepped on a piece of burning C4 about the size of a marble and blew off his foot. Also, the fumes from burning C4 are very toxic. While you could cook with it, I would want to keep from breathing the fumes, or letting them contact my food. If I encountered burning C4, I would just let it burn its self out, if possible.

In a scenario when you're about to get shot or ambushed at any given moment and you're wet, hungry and miserable, all at the same time, a hot meal would go along way too boost moral and keep your spirits up.

Actually, you pull the pin but keep the spoon pressed down. The tube will hold the spoon in place until it's launched. But given the weight of a hand grenade, it may not go as far as you'd hoped, and shrapnel tends to sting a bit.

Interesting thing about microwaves. They don’t actually just produce heat like an oven or something. They vibrate and excite the water molecules in the food or this case explosives in order to super heat them. Which is why microwave is extraordinarily faster at cooking. Seeing as how the explosives don’t have water in them, it’s not really going to produce too much heat, and definitely not enough to detonate. With the Flash bang, it had so much powder in it, and I assume the metal wasn’t too thick so it vibrated the powder and cause a reaction. My guess with the C4 is that it melted into the insides of the microwave and caught fire, seeing as how the fire originated from the back.

Worth mentioning how dangerous the microwave itself is here, the capacitor (the big metal oval shaped can that you see exposed at about 6:01) can hold enough electrical charge to kill you, even after the microwave is unplugged and has been left alone. Also, the inside of the magnetron (the big metal cube thing that makes the microwaves) has a insulator in it made of beryllium oxide, which is normally completely safe but becomes a nasty carcinogen when powdered and inhaled. TLDR: putting a live grenade in a microwave is safer than blowing up a microwave
