My wife and I love this firearm. We take it and a 45 cal. Glock when we go camping and backpacking.. It is easy to carry and with some buckshot and slug shells. You have yourself a nice protection setup for that just in case you have a wolf,mountain lion or bear that you need to protect yourself from in the woods. Its the type of firearm that you need to do some shooting with to get use to the feel of. I recommend starting off with bird shot shells and working up as you get use to handling it as those buckshot and slug shells do step up the need for understanding this firearms proper handling techniques. As for it being a felony to own is bull-crap. It is 100% legal as long as you do not put one of those butt stock kits on it.

For those searching the comments, the Shockwave is listed as a pistol grip firearm because it doesn't fall into the other categories (Shotgun, pistol) that it absolutely should from first glance. It's a smoothbore and over 26" so not a pistol, but at the same time it was designed not to be shouldered, so not a shotgun, per ATF categories. The irony being if you sawed the barrel and stock off a normal shotgun to look like the Shockwave, well, you just committed a felony.

Im Prior 11B (Infantryman), In Iraq I had to use a "Shotgun" like that for opening doors if we thought Kicking it open would not work right away or if we could not kick it open after a few kicks. One time for example, we went into a house where there was a visible bolt we could see through the gap of a metal door going into the metal frame, the owner would not open it for us and kicking would have been a waste of time, so used the "Shotgun" with a "Slug" round (Thats what we called it, I forgot the actually name of it) on it by having the muzzle angled away from the team on standby to enter, but facing in the direct spot of the key lock and fired it, then kicked it open and moved out of the way for the team to enter, Found a nice size cache in that room. Those weapons pack a nice punch and are not meant for actual combat unless it is the only thing you have left, they are used primarily for busting locks and handles before breaching a door, if the rifle will not work, Detcord would be used in areas that we could find no other way to enter the room/area, but most time we were able to just kick open the door so the "Shotgun" was not used that much, and the Detcord even less when I was deployed.

@@radarreally2110 To be honest, I never actually looked into the Shotgun, After every use the Armorer wanted it back to personally clean and maintain, said something like its contents are beyond my pay grade and so never really cared about it, as long as it worked, that was all that I cared about. I mostly used an M4 with 203 attachment, and every so often would use the M249 if our team member was replaced with someone not trained to use it. I was also trained for the gunners position on the humvee which usually either had the M240 B/C mounted on it or the 2M (50 Cal), or on rare occasions would get to sit behind the MK19 (Grenade launcher). Was also part of a weapons team from time to time, Hated carrying the Tripod and the extra 50 cal rounds are no joke to carry, same with the extra barrels and also don't forget the damn glove or load the ghost round.

That's not possible the recoil would push the shotgun back and to rack the next round you have to pull the pump the same way and you can't fire it when the pump is pulled in to you so there is no way for recoil to rack a round

It has been made my understanding that because the "handle" is fixed to the firearm and thus not able to be fired from the shoulder, it is basically a big pistol, and therefore it is not illegal even with the small barrel length. Now, if someone were to affix a stock to it, it is then a shoulder fired weapon and would fall under the SBR category of the ATF rules. My main source of this is someone who did have to go through the paperwork to get a tax stamp to make his Shockwave an SBR by adding a stock.

I love the 590 Shockwave. If I was in law enforcement or some type of security that would be the one. The military testing it went through and passed is impressive. Instead I went down to Academy and bought a 20" Maverick 88 Security pistol grip. 7 full size rounds in the magazine. With the discount card it was $215 before tax. While the 88 is much cheaper (in price and quality) than the 590 it shares many of the internals and is very robust in its own right. Another "KZbinr" gave it a mini torcher test of feeding through 500 rounds as fast as they could - worked fine - no failure of any kind feeding it everything from 3" buckshot to 23/4 birdshot. They also added "cheap" budget "tactical" addons that are pushed on many sites. Most fell off during the first 100 rounds. The cheap flashlight made it into the 400 round range. Mind you this was firing without stop something like an ammo holder that you noticed was coming loose after 40-50 rounds you could probably correct and decide that Loctite was the way to go. They just kept shooting. The goal was to test the gun and the products.
