Yeah. At the end of that third episode when they suddenly went "Ok. Dean's cured", I was near-certain that this had to be Demon Dean faking it somehow. But it all would've been ok if they'd actually established that Demon Dean is a lot more horrible than normal Dean with the Mark - because mostly it seemed like he was just drinking and singing bad karaoke. Which meant the whole rest of the season, where they were talking about how much worse it'd be if he gets turned into a Demon again, and I was going "but he didn't really even do anything".

I'm glad certain evil character traits of the brothers didn't last too long so they wouldn't be overused. The writers knew how to start and then wrap up things. They used something most audiences aren't used to. Unpredictability and story lines have a beginning middle and end so you can move onto something new. Being a demon is just another facet of Dean's past.

I know you asked this some years ago, so not sure if you’re interested in the answer now. Dean wasn’t possessed by a demon. He was the demon himself. Like Fergus possessed “a British literary agent out of NY” and re-named himself Crowley. So the anti-possession tattoo would have no effect. I don’t know if Deanmon could’ve smoked out of Dean.
