First two albums have these twin guitar melodies going on and are less to the point in terms of songwriting, while production-wise they lean a bit towards a cleaner black metal sound. Anyway, there are some great, great songs on there. Opeth were awesome right from the start!

This is the 3rd album, and my favorite, My Arms, You're Hearse. After this album, there was a line up change, and they were signed by Peaceville Records for the Still Life album. This is my favorite because it has a sound that hasn't been duplicated. This album also has April Ethereal, When, and Amen Corner which bleeds into Demon of the Fall. Wait until you hear songs from their 1st album Orchid, they came out the gate on top.

It's actually their third album and it's one of those albums where all the songs are linked together, as in the end of one song is the start of the next (except for the last two songs, those are covers) , but basically all of their albums are amazing so i don't think you should avoid any of them in particular

The second album “Morningrise” has a lot of gems - The Night and the Silent Water was the first Opeth song with harsh vocals that made me a fan. I guess the reason a number of people don’t like the first two albums is perhaps due to the less refined production quality on those but personally I like them even more because of that rawness and classic Dan Swano production. There are even some black metal elements in a few places, where the growls turn into true “demonic” screams. From the first album “Orchid”, The Twilight is My Robe is a must listen, just for the guitar solo that starts around the 3 minute mark.

I recommended she listened to the entire Orchid album as a 5000 sub thing, only because she's never listened to a song on it. I'm not a fan of Morningrise, it's a great album, but not something I'll just put in. But Orchid is so beautiful and gritty, it's an epic album, it's my second favorite behind My Arms, Your Hearse, which is equally raw, but produced better imo.

I don`t understand why people say to not listen to that one (maybe because the songs are very long), it is the first album i heard of them and still to this day my favourite. You already did a reaction for To Bid you Farewell, which is the last song and is very different from the others, but the remaining four tracks are amazing, whit lots of ositions (is this correctly spelled?), lots of bass, and a demon closer to black metal than to death metal.

@@fancotasargentina8165 Morningrise is a good album, definitely, but imo somewhat transitional. On Orchid they had still a pretty homogenous sound (compared to all their other albums), very Metal, not really any clean singing. On Morningrise they became much more diverse, eclectic even, and progressive. But also a bit over the top and still searching for the right balance, imo. Like what you like, I won't argue with it, but Black Rose Immortal is too much for me. It goes on and on, stop and go all the time and I can't get the full picture, the coherent whole. On My Arms, Your Hearse they dialed that down a notch. The songs are way more to the point and, although eclectic, make for a cohesive package, iykwim. You go on loving Morningrise, that is absolutely fine, I'm just trying to share my feelings towards that album. And after all, I would still be super proud had I written it.

I remember being hopeful the growls, or Demon if you will, would grow on you and then being a bit bummed out with the whole story of your Blackwater Park reaction thinking that might be that for your appreciation for that side of Opeth. Very happy to see that this (and several others previously, but this one especially) video proves that notion dead wrong, and also to hear that you're listening to Heir Appearent still and loving it. And at least equally happy to see that you're willing to try again with Blackwater Park, I'm sure you've been told many times over how highly the fans rate it. I think the reason people told you to stear clear of the second album, Morningrise, is that the production quality is lower and all the songs are 10-20 minutes, and all include growls except the one you've already listened to, To Bid You Farewell. I'm assuming this was told to you early on in your Opeth-reactions and it is indeed not a great place to start for someone who is just getting into the band and is unsure about the growls. Basically all of this is true for their first ablum, Orchid, as well. I think you would have no problems appreciating the songs now though, they are still Opeth! Loved your reaction as usual, I'll be on the lookout for the next poll!

Oh I was so looking forward to this reaction, what an epic song, since I d9nt wanna write a book about it, I’ll just try to fill you in on some info surrounding this song and the album. 1) you were correct about his vocals being doubled on the first verse, that’s why he sounds really demonic and guttural 2) that fee second intro but is actually a sample of another death metal song if I’m not mistaken 3) Mikael was sick during the recording of this album which affected both his growls and his clean vocals 4) still, as you noticed, throughout the years his clean vocals haVe improved greatly, he was still very raw in his cleans at this time 5) Martin Mendez did join the band aroudmd the time of this album but did not play bass on it, so yes, Mikael played all the bass lines on this album, and while Mikael is very talented, I gotta say if you listen to live performances of songs from this album, the additions and changes Mendez makes to the bass lines are all improvements lol 6) each track on this album flows directly into the next so again you were right, the very end of this song is the beginning of the next song, Credence, which is also a very good song, and no demon btw. And lastly, this is their 3rd album not second, I think there’s a few more songs on this album you would like, the albums that people have been telling y out to avoid are Orchid and Morningrise, which both have at least a song or two I think you would like, but definitely aren’t their strongest albums by most fans opinions.

@alejandroberrios4756
@alejandroberrios4756 2 жыл бұрын
@@geetbehera3593 i think there are probably a decent number of newer Opeth fans who get into them through their later work and read up on which albums to check out and realize the first two records aren’t popular suggestions at all, and then if they learn the lineup was also different from their “classic” lineup that’s even less incentive to check them out. I think there’s some gems on both of those albums, I love The Apostile in Triumph, The Night and the Silent Water, I really like Nectar, Advent, Forest of October, In the Mist she was Standing, and I like (to lesser degree) Under the Weeping Moon and Black Rose Immortal, I don’t think any of their albums are bad, but with a big discography, I understand most people prioritizing the first 2 albums the least.

I got the cd and within an hour of playing it I was ready to fling it out of my car window.....it made no sense to me. Luckily for me, 19 bucks was a big deal back then so I decided to try and stick with it. I did stick with it....and within 2 months I had purchased all of Opeth's prior cd's. For about 2 years straight the only thing being played in my vehicle was Opeth. They are THAT good. If you love old school Opeth then listen to old school Katatonia. There is something interesting about playing it front to back in that all the songs end with lyrics that is the song title of the next song. Like the end of this song ends with,"And she had lost in me, her credence.". 'Credence' being the title of the next song. 'Demon of the Fall' was my introduction to Opeth a long time ago. I very like your opeth reactions. I mean i didn’t your reaction channel until you did death whispered a lullaby… and until now i follow your reactions to opeth’s music. This particular record is bery interestingly vague and dark, the last of each music is the next songs title, i extremely recommend you to watch demon of the fall at roundhouse tapes, you can see the real devil inside the Mikael with his mind blowing low growls and that’s so fresh and brutal… I really like you to react to that live performance And sorry for my long comment two last things: two songs in this album should be on your list ( When, Credence ) Second: i know a lot of people request a lot of different songs from opeth but please react to universal truth music video by opeth Incredible….

I don't know if me but the audio track sounds like it has a lot of echo and reverb. The album sounds better than this for sure.
