@mcb39203 жыл бұрын
@@sarahwalker4241 I believe (unless I'm misinterpreting, but this is what I get when I look at the lyrics) the song is saying that rather than apologize when they share hard truths or parts of their faith that might make people uncomfortable, they're not going to apologize for what they said or try to retract their words ("we can smother out the flames with gasoline"), but that they'll stand by what is true, or even let the discomfort drive them to share with more people. I think this song might be based off of Matthew 10:34 where Jesus said he didn't come to bring peace, but came to bring a sword that would divide families and relationships.

I no longer think about them. I forget to remember the pain when our Father is forever greater then any suffering. The past is gone not behind us.
@shyguyvxv845010 жыл бұрын
We walk the path less traveled and even though there will be pain, strife and resistance we must not and will not falter. Yet for each time we will fall we will rise again each and every time because our strength is not from within but from a higher Authority. To those who say our fight is useless because there is no God, be a light to them through our lives and let what God has done in us be our testimony. To those who mock us, pray for them for in as much as they judge so too will they be judged even more. To those who would call themselves our enemy, know that we are not theirs but no matter what understand we cannot and will not relent because of who He is. No matter how tough times may get, we find peace knowing Christ has already won the battle for us. Realize our enemy knows our every weakness and he will not relent or tire. Our battlefield is fought within ourselves. Do not be mistaken though, our enemy wants nothing more for us to be caught in that struggle within ourselves trying to overcome our flaws. In that struggle he often doesn't have to do a thing because we will often be our own saboteurs. We wildly swing at and attack our enemy out of desperation to get the upper hand and when we have our hands firmly around the throat of our enemy we fail to realize all along we were fighting ourselves. Understand God wants us to surrender totally and completely to Him. We must unclench our fists and let go of our weaknesses, struggles, needs and cares to Him. Accept that He loves us as we are and through that love He will perfect us. Because of our love for Him we will strive to live a life pleasing in His eyes and walk in peace knowing the fight is already won. Now a fire burns within our souls that daily refines us and illuminates even blackest of nights and when the struggles of this life threaten to put it out we must stand firm and never let it die. To those who wish for us to smother out the flames within our souls, we will smother out the flames with gasoline.

Hofboys I agree Ryan talks about this a lot. they change slowly and do test songs almost every album like life war for instance, to see what the reaction is then they move in the direction they feel had the best response from the fans. its what keeps them improving and changing but in enough of a difference to allow new listeners in. if anything the only reason they may have lost fans is because its becoming more politically incorrect to listen to this type of music but that is fine, if they are only fans as long as its "cool" then not much of a loss

Old fan going back to self-titled. Actually, most of their stuff is different than all of their other stuff. Self-titled and Summer of Darkness were very similar, then the Triptych was completely different. Then, Storm and Thorn were pretty similar, with True Defiance being slightly different. And now Extremist is the most unique album they've done. Demon Hunter doesn't stay static, that's for sure. But it's still filled with classic DH style -- thrash, death and speed. I suggest giving Extremist another chance or two. Blast it at full volume while taking a long drive. Notice how much the band has improved their skills, and how they're starting to play with musical theory and their own tropes. Feel the way the bonus track, 'Helpless Hope', swings. Note how truly guttural 'Death' is, and how much heart 'Gasoline' and 'I Will Fail You' have. This band has reached a new apex with this album.
@scarsremain710 жыл бұрын
I think their whole style changed when they released The Triptych. Of all the albums that one is my favorite because they found their style and became popular through it. sk8terbruhXD4653 "Christian" music is a ridiculous name for an entire genre of music. Because something doesn't have a piano and a violin it can't be about God? People can't be aggressive and still love God and their fellow man? Besides, listen to the lyrics of this song. It's about erasing your mistakes and being a better person. How is that NOT uplifting? Carry Me Down, Storm the Gates of Hell, I will Fail You; even if the songs aren't all happy and "I love everything!" they all carry a rooted, Christian message. To say, "This is too loud, it can't be something God would like," is a pretty strange thing to say when you consider the things God is said to have done.

And it's not even about speed, it's just....like, this is the kind'a song you close out a set with, and barely even that. This is called a "filler track," if I ever heard one. I enjoy the fact that they don't shoe-horn the same "Jesus loves you" shit into all of their songs like the majority of Christian music, mostly outside of rock and metal, but aggressive bands do this as well.
