Lyric explanation by vocalist Ryan Clark: "It can be easy to put people on a pedestal of unrealistic expectation. We often forget that every single one of us, no matter how seemingly perfect on the outside, is a broken individual. I've made it a point to be transparent about this in my own life through my lyrics. I never want to give the impression that I have it all figured out, or that every struggle lies behind me. It can be very freeing to understand that everyone, at some point, will fail. They will fail God, they will fail themselves, and they will fail you. Understanding grace and forgiveness is the only way to spare yourself the disappointment of the human condition."
@nathacker5 жыл бұрын
Clark explained the song's meaning: "'I Will Fail You' is about the scrutiny that a band like ours of tends falls under," he said. "No matter how many times we blatantly express our beliefs, there will always be someone ready to destroy their collection of Demon Hunter albums if they suspect we're not as 'holy' as they've managed to project. The obvious problem with this is that no one is truly holy, and we're all in need of perpetual forgiveness - a defining theme of what this band has been about from the beginning."

Demon Hunter brought me back to Christ after many decades away. I hit a very low point in my life and wasn't sure I could keep going. I was at a crossroads and felt lost. This song kept popping up for me on KZbin and I kept listening to it. I always dismissed DH as "that Christian metal band" but for the first time I really listened to the lyrics and it opened my mind and heart and I did something I hadn't done since I was a kid, pick up a Bible. That was three years ago and my life has changed for the better so much.

A worthless sinner who disobeys You and causes You sadness? Why would You ever have love for me? But yet He does. And it always makes me so joyful and ever so grateful to be reminded of that. I've always respected Demon Hunter for being able to write songs as a Christian band that don't turn non-Christians away. They don't jump up and down screaming "LOOK AT ME, I'M ABOUT GOD, WOO!" They're more subtle, and in my experience with music (as a musician), that's more powerful for both sides (in this case, people of the belief and people who aren't). It allows the demographic to look deeper into the lyrics and reach their own conclusions based on it, while simultaneously allowing those who aren't in the demographic to enjoy and reach their own interpretations based upon the song's feeling and messages. Wonderful work.

Diana to this day I have a vague definition of that word nostalgia but God leaves nothing to chance. We are presented with a set of choices many different times on different subjects. Some we answer with wit and wisdom others we answer with mischief and disobedience and some we choose....not to make a choice. This Is where we are showered with mercy and grace as ppl who dare but heads with us challenge our resolve. Iron sharpens Iron. I really wish I could go back and make better choices on the one where I had a gut feeling were right but I put them off.

@XxMetalMartyrxX77710 жыл бұрын
Gil668roy I could be wrong, but the video zooms in on the ring and it's a ring of the grim reaper. Just could be another symbol for how he's "failed" by associating himself with that grim reaper ring. OR I could be wrong, and it could just be a ring ahah.

Love hearing Demon Hunter early in the morning driving to work to battle the demons(State Attorney Bar Members)that mock God under oath in their devil's playground(Courthouse), Victory to protect the people and their families brings me happiness. 👍

This song really speaks to me on how we too often we place artists, leaders, or even people in our lives up on a pedestal and start to think that we can just put our expectations on them and they have to live by them. It is especially prevalent in the Christian music scene and the Church. Because they claim Christianity as their faith and proudly proclaim it or try to teach it they should hold themselves to a higher standard but for us to try and force them to do so because we look up to them is wrong. In other ways we expect people in our lives to be exactly what we want them to be in a relationship and when they don't add up we get disappointed and hurt because of it. We all handle that hurt differently but in most cases it turns into anger or bitterness. In worst cases we do it to ourselves and when we don't live up those standards we become insecure and try to judge and tear down those who don't live up to our standards. Stop and realize that the people that let us down are human beings just like us and the one sure thing we can bet on is that somewhere down the road we will fail. Just as God loves us for who we are, He has called us to do the same for Him and others. Just as God has forgiven all of our trespasses, He has called us do the same for others. We must love God for who He is and through that love we grow and mature into the men and women God has called us to be. So I will strive daily to walk by faith and be an example of that love but do not place your faith in me but rather in God and Him alone. Because I will fail you of that I'm sure. I will remind you of the pain forevermore and when my sins are just a memory, faith restored. I will fail you to the core.

Sorry for the length, but it was something that has been on my chest, and I wanted to share. Truth be told I am telling it to myself as much as anyone else who might need to hear it. As for the video my interpretation is that the hostage is us as fans. We often place artists up on a pedestal, especially in the Christian scene, and when they eventually fail to meet our expectations we tend to let it devastate us or we start casting stones trying to tear them down. We make ourselves so beholden to them, that when they do fall so do we.

This is absolutely brilliant. I absolutely agree, and I fall short every single day. I don't hold myself above anyone, because I am a broken sinner before God, and I don't deserve His mercy. Thank you for this.

I was dating a girl for a long time. I failed her, after I've sent this song to her. Memories, I miss her sometimes. :) Such an amazing song, touches my soul every time.
@Cordova10-84 жыл бұрын
The song is about God, not a girl. It's a common mistake people make when they hear songs where they refer to God as You or Him.

Just as it says in the beginning of the comments by the band member. An explaination of this song. We as human beings fail not only God, but each other as well, and even our ownselves. tobeinhimalone - Lyric explanation by vocalist Ryan Clark: "It can be easy to put people on a pedestal of unrealistic expectation.

The song as explained by Clark is about the scrutiny that a band like theres will get if others don think they are "holy" enough and the truth is were all in need of perpetual forgiveness as he says is a defining theme of what the band has always been about.

[Intro] [Verse 1] These quiet words They carry me away Returning They keep coming back In idle thoughts and hollow cut-aways Disarm me No will to attack [Pre-Chorus] Though the sorrow and fear They may depart you Today [Chorus] I will fail you Of that I’m sure I will remind you Of the pain Forevermore And when my sins Are just a memory Faith restored I will fail you To the core [Verse 2] Lost in the shadow Of an endless grace Relentless My reign is unbound In this abandon I will devastate Dismember Till agony’s found [Pre-Chorus] Though the sorrow and fear They may depart you Today [Chorus] I will fail you Of that I’m sure I will remind you Of the pain Forevermore And when my sins Are just a memory Faith restored I will fail you To the core [Bridge] I know they prey upon me I feel them just beyond my door... [Instrumental] [Chorus] I will fail you Of that I’m sure I will remind you Of the pain Forevermore And when my sins Are just a memory Faith restored I will fail you To the core [Chorus - Outro] I will fail you Of that I’m sure I will remind you Of the pain Forevermore And when my sins Are just a memory Faith restored I will fail you To the core
