Ryan Clark about this song: "Lyrically, and thematically, the song takes on a concept of the "void" is what happens after death. Some people feign death to be this sort of comfort in nothingness. They find comfort in thinking death, or the nothingness that they think it brings, takes away the darkness of life. To me, that concept is silly. A lot of my songs take a sarcastic approach when I write. This one could be seen as a sarcastic praise song for the absence of God. The sarcasm is natural for me and usually comes out in the verses of songs and then a hopeful, or first-person, chorus. This song is opposite that structure, but still sarcastic to the concept it is about as I play the devil's advocate often."

It's also an incredibly arrogant and intentionally uninformed view of death from yet another christian who thinks they know what every non-believer thinks about death. I dig Ryan's voice, but geez, christians trying to accurately play devil's advocate for a mindset they don't understand is pretty cringey. Speaking from the perspective of someone who's died in this song is pointless-when you die, that's it. There's nothing of your consciousness lingering on. If it had been set in someone's dying moments, I'd probably go a bit easier in critiquing the point of view/voice the song is sung from. There's nothing inherently dark about life. There's dark moments, sure, but life is inherently a pretty bright thing. There is no solace in death from anything in life. There's no reason to seek comfort in death. His assumptions about what non-christians believe about death is just as silly as the concept he pretends exists.

@@jeffthebean1 notice he said "What some people believe", not "what non-christians believe". Edit: and arent you kinda doing the same thing that you critiqued Ryan for? Judging something that you dont really have an undertsanding of, being the Christian Lifestyle? Edit #2: also please dont take any of this personally, ive had too many KZbin Comment section arguements.
@Introversitive3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffthebean1 do YOU know what happens after death? For certain? Do you have evidence? I hate this life. It IS filled with darkness. Even more so now with the inclusion of gay marriage, gay this and that and their protection, liberalism, corporate greed, political agendas, fake news, abortion being legal, drugs being legal, political correctness, movies and TV shows being nothing but woke agendas, the list goes on. If life is bright for you, and you say there is no solace in death, then you are a perfect example of what the Bible says is enmity with God. Paul said that it would be BETTER to depart and be with Christ. You say that it is better to remain in this dark and getting darker, bright world. Sad.

I'm still kind of new to Demon Hunter. I've known about them for years. Hell, I even got to see them live once when they toured with Red around 9 or 10ish years ago. I knew I was seeing a popular band but looking back, I didn't know I got to see greatest before I knew how amazing lyrically DH is. The reason I wanted to make this post is I wanted to share my personal interpretation for the song Praise the Void. The first time I heard this, I thought it was just an outright new song made exclusively for the album, not realizing it was just being released first before the newer version that I still have yet to hear. This was the first song that hit me hard, but after reading other people's interpretations, I felt mine was significantly different. My interpretation is rather depressing. I felt it was about a person realizing in life that no matter how hard they try to fight in this world to be sinless, they're going to fail and it hurts every time you break it. However, the person who is consistently breaking their vows to try and not sin are surrounded by people who do not care about God or Jesus. When I see the lyrics "Wasted love" I feel it meant that God still loves all of his children, but there are people who couldn't care less what he would feel or do for them. Followed by Wasted love, you see the lyrics "We found nothing is enough." It mentally hurts to see that line. I felt that no matter how hard you try, your sin by definition means that no matter how you sin, it's technically not enough to be saved from hell. "Nothing is enough" to truly be saved from hell, and that hurts so bad to think about. The idea of praising the void just makes me think of how many celebrate the fact they do not have to worry about a creator in their life so they live with nothing in their life and as Christians, that's one of the most painful things you'll ever see. Not being able to save everyone is one of the most hurtful things we have to live with. "Is it the end what you want to see?" followed with "is it peace for only me?" Signifying that knowing the only way to save those is to introduce them to God and Jesus, but there are so many people could care less. We are saved by the grace of God and believe many of us will make it to our temples when we die. But living with the sad thought of "how little is not enough to be saved?" Plagues me based on how so many people just disregard things in their lives. Sorry if I over thought any of this. That's just the message I still get when I listen to this song and though it's lyrically such an amazing song, it's one of the more depressing songs I've heard. If you managed to read this entire thing, thank you for humoring my interpretation of the song.

I know Ryan's perspective about the void, but nothing brings me more peace than embracing eternity, never to be far from those I love again. I love the versatility of DH. Beautiful melodies, ballads, harmony, and the mixed vocals God has blessed Ryan with the flexibility to do grunge, raspy, emotional , and slow sweet sounding music. I absolutely love tbe bands balance. I can hear every instrument being played, how it all harmonizes as one solid masterful piece. I do not think that Ryan tries to still the show either. I have heard bands that do not balance the sound and all you can hear is the lead singer and everyone else gets drowned out. I do not k ow how they all found each other, but I know that it was Gods grand design. I know they have a certain responsibility to the lives that are touch by their music and they do step up to that plate. I have only seen a few artists who interact with their fans and do not forget that the fans are a part of where the artists are in the music business. DH, NF, and Casting Crowns are the only Christians in the music industry that I have seen who are grounded, interactive, and humble. May God richly bless them in all their endeavors. Here in the dark We feel nothing, we see no one Is it peace for only me?
