i feel like its pretty obvious shinizugawa is trying to protect his brother by keeping him out of the demon corp. their own mother was turned and he had to kill her. presumably he believes there are things worse than being blind.

@dontrellwalton8267 I think it shows you how traumatized he is that he thinks it's necessary (whether we the viewers or other characters agree it still gives us a good look into his psyche)

Shinizugawa is angry with Genya, his little brother because Genya blamed him for killing their Mother. It was shown in Genya's flashback that Shinizugawa used to be a loving brother and he had blood on his hands to protect Genya but he got hated for it. So they separated and now, Genya is apologetic to his brother but Shinizugawa had already changed. He is no longer that loving brother. I find him irritating too but with the backstory, I kind of take it that he is just hurt.

It seems to me like he's especially harsh on Genya because he wants to discourage him from being a demon slayer. If he can't even use any breathing techniques, he probably believes it's only a matter of time before he gets killed. Obviously it's not a healthy way to deal with their shared trauma, but I think he believes he's doing the right thing.

What?? no way is he thinking about Genya blaming him... he doesn't care about something as silly as that. That's just Genya's point of view and he's wrong. Sanemi is very harsh with his brother because Genya is weak, so it's unavoidable that he'll eventually face a strong demon and die, Sanemi loves his brother.

Say what you will about Zenitsu but man was he on point this episode, mostly in that him freaking out was both understandable and in sync with the other Slayers.

People who are naturally good at stuff aren’t the best teachers. Feel like Tomioka, Shinobu and especially Rengoku would have been better teachers then Sanemi and Iguro.

I doubt it. We've already got his backstory so we understand his angst and anger/twisted love with his brother... but that doesnt make him endearing or likeable in the present day. Extra scenes or more backstory. It's hard to see how they'll change current stances or view of Sanemi as an abusive older brother willing to blind and mutilate his brother to protect him from demons.
